Pinkys Tacos is a cute yet small venue with nice aesthetics. I went on Cinco de Mayo/Taco Tuesday, and as expected, it was packed to capacity. The DJ starts at 8pm. He was playing nothing but hits and had my whole party turned up all night. They also had 2-for-1 margaritas. The margaritas could've been a little stronger, but I'm definitely not complaining since it was BOGO I ordered the Birria egg rolls and steak fries. The egg rolls were delicious, especially paired with the sweet sauce they came with. And that cilantro sauce mixed with my steak fries? Scrumptious! I came here on taco Tuesday. A friend of mine said they had pretty good tacos. When I arrived, of course they were pretty busy. It was around 7 PM. The place is decked out in pink. So it's good for a few photo ops. I placed a to go order which consisted of two orders of guacamole and the steak tacos. I'm a person that likes my guacamole with a good amount of fixings. This one had the bare minimum, but it was tasty. For my steak tacos some of the steak was overcooked, but it did have good flavor. Last night I stumbled upon a vegan gem completely by accident. I was driving home from an event that, like so many, had no vegan options. It was late, I was starving, and finding something plant based at that hour felt impossible. Then I spotted a taco place I must have driven past thousands of times, Pinky's Tacos on Commercial Blvd. I figured I would stop in and see if they could make something vegan for me, maybe a simple bean taco or two. To my surprise, not only did they have Violife vegan cheese, but they also offered vegan birria tacos made with hibiscus flowers. I could not believe it. I have done self guided vegan food tours through Mexico and only found two places that served hibiscus flower tacos, both unforgettable. If you have never tried hibiscus flower, it absorbs flavor beautifully and has a texture that is remarkably similar to ropa vieja. It is tangy, tender, and takes on spices in the best way. The meal started with a duo of fresh salsas served with homemade tortilla chips, simple but so fresh you could taste it in every bite. Then came the tacos, four generously filled tortillas overflowing with hibiscus flowers, served with a rich, aromatic broth for dipping. The moment I dipped my first taco and took a bite, I knew I had discovered what might be the best vegan taco I have ever had. The portion was generous, four tacos plus the dipping broth for sixteen dollars, and between the chips, salsa, and tacos, I had enough left over for lunch today. They are open most nights until eleven and even have a few other vegan options on the menu, though limited. Honestly, I cannot imagine wanting anything other than this hibiscus flower taco. Pinky's also has plenty of free parking in a private lot, conveniently located near 441 and Commercial Blvd. If you are in Fort Lauderdale and think you have tried every vegan option around, think again. The Restaurant is large with lots of seating and a beautiful bar serving up $5 margarita specials on Taco Tuesdays. The tacos are very good. I tried the birria egg rolls, shrimp tacos, and chicken birria tacos. Everything was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the Shrimp tacos, it was flavorful and the Shrimp was juicy. I love this place and have ordered from the food truck and now several times from the set location. The other day I decided to sit down and eat! Unfortunately the service was very slow. It looks like they put a lot of focus on the to go business. They eventually got to us and apologized and took our order. We waited some more and they had forgot to put in our order!! We always order takeout from Pinky's Tacos and it's always a hit! Food is fresh and hot even by the time we get home (approx. 25min drive). Their birria tacos with consome are the best but to get the best bang for your buck, get the family platter that comes with 25 tacos and 2 drinks! The hefty carne asada burrito is so flavorful - probably the size of what chipotle used to look like. My favorite is their homemade tortilla chips, especially to accompany the truffle corn. At the suggestion of a friend, I went to this restaurant to try the tacos and I was not disappointed. It was not crowded at the time my husband and I went, so we chose a seat and the waitress came over with the menu and asked what we would like to eat. I thought the service was a bit poor, she didn't explain anything about how the restaurant worked or give any suggestions. We started with "Guac and chips" $9. The guacamole naps had no flavor, we had to ask for salt and lime to give it some flavor. My husband opted for "4 birria tacos with consume" $16. He liked it so much that he ordered another portion of the same thing. I opted for "ramen with 2 birria tacos + egg" $15 + $1.50 egg. The taco was really tasty, their roast beef is super tasty but the ramen was extremely spicy for my taste. It was tasty with the same roast beef as the taco but super spicy and oily. Let's talk about it. I met up with one of my buddies for a work lunch. I had initially picked a spot that served oxtail, but we made a last-minute switch to Pinky's Tacos, and now that I think about it, I'm not mad at it at all. We decided to go with a couple of tacos. I always ask for a recommendation, and they said the chorizo. I was thinking, should I really do chorizo? I could go with steak. Then the server said I could do a mixture of the two, called campechanos. So I went with that, and I got two al pastor tacos as well. I need to stop asking people what the best thing on the menu is, because they're not steering me in the right direction. I wasn't a huge fan of the campechanos, but the pastor hit on all cylinders. The hot sauces on the side were pretty good too. Then we got our appetizer after the entrée (wish it wasn't like that). At that point, I was already getting full, but we ordered the birria egg rolls. My gosh, they were so cheesy, so gooey, and all the flavor inside was amazing. My mistake again, I asked which dipping sauce was best. They pointed to something that I think was sweet-and-sour or something weird like that. That was not the way to go. The cilantro sauce was the move, 100 percent. I'll give the egg rolls a 10 out of 10. Toward the end, I started feeling a little too cheesy, but I think that's because I was already full. I'd definitely have those again, maybe just stick with them next time. Gotta watch the diet a bit. As far as the tacos: Al pastor gets an 8 out of 10 Campechanos gets a 5 out of 10 They also have $5 margaritas. They're small, but for five bucks, I can't complain. Would I come back? Definitely. Expect a lot of pink in the restaurant lol they did have Selena on replay which I feel like they could have mixed up the music a bit. You were able to seat yourself however it took about 10 minutes for someone to come and greet us and we had to continue to ask for our server to bring us things such as water, utensils, etc. Now the food... Super surprised I can't find Pinkys on Yelp. Was in the for the weekend and checked into a nearby hotel, and I just wanted a dang taco. Sure enough as I was navigating to our hotel we passed a food truck outside which is part of a brick n mortar shop. So we checked in and headed over. Was around 2 pm on a Saturday, so an odd time and nobody was in there. One patron ended up coming in while we ate. Decor was fun. We ordered chips and salsa..which came with two sauces.....and chips were not the 'regular ol chips' you get in a bag or other Mexican restaurants. Free refill of the chips. We ordered their '4 tacos' and choose two chicken, two pork. We loved them. Very fresh, and the pink taco shells (I think corn) were fun. Looking around they appeared to have some good tequilas. First time here and I'm being nice giving 3 stars .. I got a carne asada bowl it came out cold and it was not good. I had to tell the girl to bring it back and reheat it. It literally tastes like it was a quick made at home ground beef at that not even carne asada cause it was ground meat . rice and tomato when it's supposed to have refried beans, crema, cheese, tomato and rice . I tasted 0 of that and refried beans are the best part! I didn't taste any of it. It definitely had me disappointed because I've been wanting to try eating here. On the bright side my man got the 2 birria tacos and ramen that was good and I should have gotten that or atleast tacos because that's what this place is known for. Those were great. My boyfriend and I had been so excited to try Pinkys only to be severely disappointed. First of all, I wasn't sure if I was walking into a restaurant or a night club. While we loved the music (the DJ was amazing) it was WAY too loud to comfortably have dinner. It was also confusing having no host because we weren't sure whether we sat ourselves or needed to wait for someone to show us a table - there was no sign anywhere so this should've been our indication of how the rest of dinner would go. Now I did become a little hopeful when our menus, orders and drinks all were taken and received quickly but after our chips and guacamole was brought out our experience went further downhill. Once our food arrived, my boyfriend's order was incorrect. My birria tacos were good, nothing spectacular but they weren't bad. Normally you'd think letting a waiter know that the order was incorrect would be a quick fix but it was 25 minutes before we were able to let someone know and this was only because I got up and practically chased down our waitress. Then not only did she not come back, another waitress happened to notice the frustration on our faces and came to ask if we were okay. To which my reply was no, his order was wrong and at this point I just wanted to pay for the food we did consume and leave. (I have been a server and we have owned restaurants so... yes I know this) We had to ask for our drinks. We had to ask for utensils had to ask for napkins, had to ask for salsa. Never checked to see how our food was. Our server Kayla was not friendly at all nor were any of the others UNTIL I told them on our way out that I'd be writing a Yelp review. The Eatery is closing down and they had bad service. Good service has a large impact on your restaurant. We would like to come back because the food was really good but will shy away because the service was not up to par. FYI, I still left a 30% tip because I used to be a server.
