    Mango Quesadilla

Cafe Monarca is an adorable Mexican restaurant in Oakland Park! I loved the ambiance of this place- fun but not too gaudy, plenty to look at but not overwhelming, with a large dining room and plenty of seating. My friend and I started with margaritas, which were delicious (and large), and I appreciated the complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the mango quesadilla, which came with rice and beans on the side. The portion size was huge so I plenty to take home for leftovers! Service was great too, and we witnessed a super fun birthday tradition, so might be the spot to take someone for a birthday celebration! Overall, I was impressed with Cafe Monarca and I can't believe it took me so long to get here! I am sure I'll be back!

Casa Monarca is hands down my favorite Mexican spot in FTL right now. From the moment you walk in, the staff is always on point, super attentive and genuinely welcoming every single time. I noticed the staff even telling the uber delivery drivers to drive safe. That's genuine! I've sat at both tables and the bar, and the bar easily wins for me. Especially on karaoke nights. it brings such a fun, lively energy to the place that makes you want to stay longer than planned. The place is also decorated super cute too. Funny enough, I actually heard about Casa Monarca directly from the owner. Total random moment, I was telling a friend how much I love tacos, and he happened to be a friend of my friend. He told me to check it out, and I'm glad I remembered and listened because he definitely didn't steer me wrong. Food never disappoints. I've tried a bunch of different things. The chorizo tacos, elote, verde enchiladas, quesadillas, and nachos. I make it a point to switch it up every visit. Everything I've had has been fire!! Next on my list is the choripollo, and I already know it's going to hit. Parking is easy too, which is always a plus. They've got a big lot so no stressing there. I did hear they're moving locations very soon (I think this week?) but it's just a few minutes away. They definitely didn't lose a customer. 10/10 recommend Casa Monarca. If you're in FTL and want some fire Mexican food with good energy staff and locals, this is the spot.

    Lunch Fajitas

Michael M from NYC wanted Mexican so we went for lunch. Casa Monarca is walking distance from home, but it took 2 years for me to try it. Why did I wait? A large bar greets you at the entrance (I now recall that I did have drinks in the bar during an event). The restaurant looks clean and spacious. There are booths along the walls and tables spread out. Chips and salsa were fresh. We asked for spicer salsa and the server came back with two more choices. Picante! The lunch menu was pretty large with a variety to choose from. Michael is vegetarian and ordered ... I went for chicken fajitas. There was more than enough fajitas for one person. Lunch prices are reasonable, the place is not crowded, the food tastes fresh and delicious. I'm sorry I waited 2 years to come by.

Casa Monarca closed on Federal Highway and *poof* opened up on Prospect Road. Upon entering I took a quick look around: It's smaller with lots of tables and a few booths. Still an attractive interior. Two very nice servers were on the floor. We just missed lunch so the dinner menu was our only option. They brought the complementary chips and salsa (which some places now have the nerve to charge for), it's a tasty salsa. Ordered some "fresh made" guac (it better be!) which was made better with a few squeezes of lime juice. We decided to try the combo platters since the kitchen was new and it's a good test. My dining companion opted for shredded beef burrito and a ground beef chili relleno. I went with a ground beef tostada and shredded chicken enchilada. With the requisite beans and rice. Look, it was good food, not knock your socks off cuisine. I mean we consciously chose Mex-American so that's on us. The menu offers some other interesting options that I'd order next time. My only gripe is a dry enchilada. I like them swimming in red sauce and cheese which this was not. Otherwise, as I stated, nothing to complain about. The price point is decent for dinner in Fort Lauderdale. Btw I love a good tostada and mine was pretty darn yummy.

This place has all the vibes! Went out to Casa monarca this Saturday night and it was full of cheerful people all enjoying each other company and preparing to watch the World Cup. The menu was extensive and same with the drinks! The frozen margaritas I had with my cousin were DELICIOUS OMG. She had to have 2. She's vegan and enjoyed her vegan tacos with the black beans and rice. The waiter was nice enough to suggest the birria tacos to me when I couldn't choose and they were great. My only issue is the food too quite a while to come out.... I felt like the table near us that came after us got their food first.... Regardless I had a swell time!

    Wonderful drinks!!

I had an amazing experience at their new location. I was a fan of the old location, but this is just over the top. Service was amazing, and the food was top tier. Drinks are jaw-dropping!!!

The food is amazing and consistent at every level! The service is friendly and accommodating...even if you are a vegan. The drinks are off the charts delicious!.

Third time here and i am never disappointed. Food is great! Been here before twice with coworkers and everyone loved their dishes. Me.. it's my third time ordering Gobernado Tacos.. why? Because it's seriously that good, shrimp cooked just right! 3 tacos with its flavors, side of yummy rice and refried beans. Its seriously a full meal. I usually just eat one and some rice and beans. Hubby had the rest of mine and his. His: Quesa Birria, also comes with side of rice and refried beans- He liked it. Drinks: i had Oaxaca Old Fashioned. It's an experience with the smoke which you'll taste at first sip. It's ok, a little on the sweet side for my liking. A party near us were celebrating a birthday.. it was wonderful to watch and clap too.

This is a really delicious Mexican restaurant. I've been here twice and both times were superb. The enchiladas with mole sauce are excellent. So are the enchiladas that come topped with red and green sauce. The tacos are delicious and come with three nice sized tacos with rice and beans. The refried beans are slightly spicy because of a chili pepper they blend into the mix. It's the best refried beans ever! Monday is margarita Monday with large cost savings. The bar area is nice and large and popular at happy hour. Service is good. This place is great!!

Food and drinks Food and drinks were superb. The table got the house made guacamole (fresh and tasty). Drinks ranged from a spicy margarita (La Muerte) to a tequila old fashioned and every one was garnished creatively. La Muerte (Silver tequila infused with jalapeños, fresh lime, triple sec, and agave) had a skeleton-shaped ice cube floating at the top. The Monarca came with a red, butterfly shaped ice garnish. I shared a molcajete (serves two people) featuring a variety of meat with a cheese infused sauce. It comes with a side of rice, refried beans, tortilla, pico, and guacamole. The other people at my table got the taco salad and pollo monarca (Grilled marinated chicken, covered with cheese, ranchero sauce, grilled onions, mushrooms & pineapples. Served with rice, refried beans & choice of flour or corn tortillas). Service Not great, which is why I gave it a three star. Waiter took forever between taking the drink and food orders. Seems they were short staffed because the restaurant wasn't that busy for a Saturday night. He also barely spoke English. I speak Spanish but the rest of my party didn't and it took a bit to get our orders in. I will say for a birthday it is fun because they turn off all the lights and play music through the speakers. The servers come out with a dessert topped with sparklers.

The food was delicious here, the mood was lively and the staff seemed to know some of the regulars. Our waiter disappeared for a while and then someone else helped us which was interesting. The food is a 4 or 5 star, however my wife and I didn't feel great after the meal. So 3 star is my score unfortunately. We couldn't figure out why we didn't feel well, maybe they use vegetable oil for frying. I have no idea, the food is great just order with caution. Cheers!

OMG some of the best Mexican I've had in Broward. The decor inside is so nice and the el muerte drink has some kick to it. I got the pineapple version. The molcajete is not to be missed. Like fajitas but 10x better. I loved the service and atmosphere. I read a sign that said they were moving.. and I hope closer to my house lol

Decided to try Casa Monarca 91 E Prospect Rd Oakland Park. We arrived at 6:30 with reservations and were seated in minutes. They took over the spot held by Cielto Lindo Tres for over 15 years. The restaurant was filled to capacity so we were happy we made reservations. The front room we noticed was extremely noisy which is what you expect in an open room with over 100 people dining. Happy Hour for those who partake is 4-7 PM. Fresh chips with salsa & fresh house made guacamole were the perfect starters. I had the shredded beef Enchiladas topped with red & green sauce and refried beans with white rice. (awesome!) Other plated dishes were Seafood Chipotle, grilled fish filet with shrimp, scallops & onions served with white rice, cabbage salad & avocado slices. Los 3 Amigos rounded out the table w/grilled steak chunks w/rice, refried beans, avocado slices lettuce & pico de Gallo. The food was excellent, but the restaurant lost points for being so loud that we couldn't carry a decent conversation at our table. I would possibly recommend the rear room which appeared to be more intimate. We're going to try it again so it's not on Larry's List yet as a go to Mexican Restaurant unless you like shouting across the table. Food a solid 5 atmosphere 3.0.
