My wife and I were able to get our son and pets out of the burning house without any injuries, and our local fire department arrived on the scene quickly to put out the fire. Unfortunately, by the time that the fire was out, most of our home had been destroyed. We contacted our insurance company to start our claim and were immediately met with opposition and confusion on their part. It looks several weeks for our insurer to assign an adjuster to our claim. This initial experience with our Insurance company led our decision to hire a Public Adjuster to navigate the process and advocate on our behalf. We couldn't trust that our Insurance company would handle the claim responsibly, and we quickly realized that we needed someone to fight for us to hold our Insurance company accountable for the policy that was in force at the time of the loss. We were extremely fortunate to find ICRS and secure Scott as our Public Adjuster.  Our Insurance company mislead us at times, and withheld information when it benefited them. It took several weeks for them to provide a copy of our policy, and when they did, they excluded information that benefited us. ICRS pressured them to provide a full copy of our policy which included benefits they had initially excluded. Our Insurance company provided a rebuilding scope that was unrealistic and not aligned with the actual cost of rebuilding our home. ICRS countered with a realistic scope and also advised us to secure several independent quotes on our own. ICRS then leveraged its scope and the independent quotes to force the Insurance company to pay out a more realistic amount for the rebuild. The scoping process took months, and ICRS drove the communications the entire time.  The first adjuster that the Insurance company assigned to our claim arrived at the site visit and interview with a combative attitude, where he used inappropriate language, and attempted to force the negotiations in the Insurance company's favor by manipulating the facts. ICRS swiftly called out the adjuster and guided the negations back on track in a professional manner.  Our Insurance company cycled through four adjusters during our claim. The pass-down of information between these adjusters was insufficient at best, with each new adjuster attempting to avoid payout using the same methods that failed with the last. We were astonished that a company could act in this manner without serious recourse. Nonetheless, ICRS was able to leverage emails, photos, inspection reports, and additional documentation to bring each new adjuster up to speed after each transition. ICRS' efforts kept the claim moving every time that the Insurance company attempted to stall, and they attempted to stall many times. When our Insurance company misrepresented the policy and refused to pay out for damages that were covered, ICRS drove the communications process and provided documentation, which included case-law excerpts from similar claims that had gone to trial. This approach kept the process moving and provided breakthroughs on some of the vital areas of negotiations. Through the process, ICRS provided a paper trail of communications and documentation that our Insurer couldn't ignore, and ultimately they were forced to pay out for the covered items due to the exposure that ICRS had made apparent.  ICRS increased the overall claim by more than 20% during the planning and rebuild process through supplements. Through negotiations with our Insurance company, ICRS increased the claim by 104% over what was paid out. 104%... double what the Insurance company released up-front in our initial settlement. Additionally, the payout ICRS secured for us was 31% higher than our policy limit.  Before that fire, we had heard insurance companies pull out every trick in the book to avoid paying out on a policy. Having gone through this experience, we can say that the behavior on our Insurance company's part was disgusting, and far worse than we had ever imagined possible. We advise with 100% conviction that anyone dealing with a large loss such as ours, hire a public adjuster to navigate and advocate on their behalf in order to get the needed results. Without hesitation, we recommend ICRS to anyone going through a similar situation. Our family could not have rebuilt our home with the funds our insurance company provided, and we only have a home to return to because of ICRS' efforts to hold our insurer accountable for the policy we had paid for. Throughout the claim, which lasted over a year, ICRS navigated the entire claim process with professionalism and care. Blue Diamond did a terrific job…read more We had spoken to many contractors, but too many either did not return calls, or wanted to make cosmetic changes but not fix the basics, or wanted to do work without city permits and inspections. Our small 1958 house needed all the basics. Sewer lines needed replacement, water line needed replacement, interior galvanized plumbing lines needed replacement. Unsafe ungrounded electrical wiring needed replacement. We needed more outlets, better lighting, outside outlets. HVAC was in attic, old, not up to code and ripped ducting. Needed to be replaced and relocated. Roof needed replacement, old aluminum single glazed windows needed to go. Cream shag carpet and ugly hard to clean floor tile (which was on counter and backsplash too) had to go. We needed insulation. A proper vent for the stove. New backsplash and counters, new toilet and sinks. We left our fifties single bath and cupboards to save money. In only a little over two months from start of work, working with city inspectors and all up to code, they took our house down to the bare concrete floors, the ceilings down, the bare bones exposed, and built it back up, new, improved, everything safe and working, and much more beautiful. With a working kitchen and finally a dishwasher and disposal and washer dryer! The bones are 1958 but the house is 2020. Shout outs to Hayk the electricIan, Zach the plumber, David the carpenter, all the drywall guys and everyone else for doing a great job. Max addressed any issues promptly, and was very responsive. The team accommodated us staying on site with the cats, and there were no escapes. Having the in-house Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing made all the difference. Sometimes we had multiple crews working simultaneously. Everyone was courteous and wonderful to work with. The whole house was brought up to code and passed all the needed inspections. and even the inspectors commented on the quality work that was being done. We still have a small, three bedroom one bath house, but it's now the house we dreamed it could be. In fact, we had everyone sign the house as they finished! Quality craftsmanship is an art form, and we are delighted with the results. Blue Diamond worked well with outside contractors, too. To save some bucks, we had Window World do the windows and a neighbor did a great job paintIng. This caused no problems. On time, at budget (yes there were a few unforeseen items that brought it up but nothing serious)). And now we have a beautiful home we can retire in. Kudos to Blue Diamond, one and all! This is the most abusive, least professional experience with a CPA me or my husband have ever had…read more Today, I was listening to a phone conversation between my husband and one of the founders of BTAS, Paul Totaro, who is without a doubt one of the least professional people in this industry, and I was floored by Paul's behavior. During this call, Paul yelled at my husband - berated him, really - for daring to suggest that the communication hadn't been ideal to date, instead of listening and attempting to explain or fix the situation to our satisfaction. After several instances where Paul or his subordinates hadn't bothering showing up for scheduled meetings, an almost complete lack of responsiveness to email communication over the course of literally several months, and at least half a dozen redundant requests of us from new names at BTAS that kept getting added to conversations in lieu of old ones (apparently they have a lot of turnover in their employee ranks, and I can see why) to connect them with our bookkeeper - apparently no one had saved records of our conversations in files that would have eliminated redundant work for my husband, which is kind of one of the benefits of hiring a CPA firm in the first place - we felt we needed this call to clear the air, and politely inform them that we were going to switch to another firm for the remainder of our tax work. But that's not how it went. After we mentioned this, incredibly, Paul went into a fit of rage and yelled at my husband "well we don't want anything to do with you either!" We felt like some authoritarian principal had called us into his office to berate us, rather than what was really happening, which was us politely firing a service provider that we thought was at least prepared to be professional about it and, who knows, maybe could have some introspection about the situation as a company who failed to meet at least one client's expectations (seems like, from reviews, it's way more than one, however). We came to BTAS with high trust through someone who used to be involved in their day-to-day client relations. I see that their only positive review to date references this person, but unfortunately that review is old and since we started working with BTAS, this person stopped working day-to-day with the company. That is where all our problems began - once we got kicked to Paul and the revolving cadre of his subordinates. I hope no one else has to experience this, and if this review can dissuade others from getting trapped in this sort of abusive professional relationship, only to be left late into tax season to start over, then I'm glad I posted it.
