I was kept in the dark for months for months by ServPro. I had a 9" x9" hole cut in my living room ceiling. They said they were waiting for my home insurance. For months? Really? I have recently got the mold remediation serveice including air filter cleaning and this is what I found today. Some of them are obviously not cleaned at all. It is obvious that they cut a lot of corners. For the mold fogging, they seem to only fog the floor which I do not see any point of doing it at all. We had water damage to our ceiling, and started to see a bit of mold on the outer paper and needed help quick. They were initially quick and responsive, but once we started trying to get scheduled, communication frequency dropped sharply. This would be fine if the repair hadn't been muddled. The person who came to our house was not the person I had been speaking to about the problem- this was a surprise, but again, not an issue by itself. The issue was that he had pretty much no idea what the situation was, or what was needed for the repair. He ended up cutting a large whole in our drywall- when he called back to the office, was informed that he was just supposed to cut off the paper, and that someone from the office would follow up. I was referred to SERVPRO by Travis from ABC Abatement and received a call from Kory within a few hours. Kory then came out later that day and he completed an estimate for me. Since my insurance company wasn't covering my damages, I had to do my due diligence with several different companies. My estimate from SERVPRO was in my inbox the back the next day. Of the 5 estimates I received, SERVPRO by far had the best price. So why the bad review? Let me give you some more details. I have a cousin who does the same thing in Florida and he put me in touch with his Texas counterpart. His Texas counterpart provided me with a detailed estimate which was considerable amount more than SERVPRO. I've always been skeptical of Mold/Water removal businesses because I investigated insurance fraud for over 5 years and came across many SERVPRO franchises and others like them. After reviewing the estimates and doing my due diligence, I contacted Kory via email and left him a message with the SERVPRO office, who said they would pass the message along. The day passed and no message from Kory. They next day I shot Kory another email and he eventually responded that he needed my number. I receive a call from Kory later in the day and I explained to him that I would like to go forward, but wanted a detailed estimate. Since my insurance company wasn't covering it, I needed to make sure this project didn't turn into a 4-5 grand money dump or worse. The first estimate I received was very vague and only had general numbers, in addition, it had the contract language you need to be aware of...."any hidden damage discovered during remediation shall be billed for accordingly." During our talk, Kory told he was in the field, but would review the estimate and give me a call back the next day. I tell him that's cool with me and I totally understand. Well the next day passes and no follow-up from Kory. I shoot him another email telling him I really want to go forward ASAP, but really need a more detailed estimate. That day passes and no response from Kory. Well today is day 6 of trying to communicate with Kory and getting SERVPRO to TAKE MY BUSINESS. So my question is, "why wouldn't a business follow-up with you if you've told them you really want to hire them and get moving with the project? My belief, with my previous experience in the insurance field, is that SERVPRO wanted to start the job and then hit me with the "hidden damage" fees. Since I explained I had a cap on my budget, they figured it wasn't worth it. That's why their original estimate was so much lower then all of the other competition. It's what we call the classic "bait and switch". If you have a water/mold issue and your insurance company is paying for it, I'm sure you'll get stellar service. On the other hand, if you're paying out of your own pocket and have a budget, be very, very careful of the wording on your contract and make sure you get a very detailed estimate. We recently had a minor flood in our bathroom and master bathroom when my husband turned on the bathtub and forgot it was running. We called Servpro and asked them to come out and evaluate the situation. I was so impressed with their service and integrity. Kory came out and tested the floors, walls, and ceiling below (the flood happened on the second floor) and determined that the damage was not substantial enough to need professional services. He simply advised us to continue running the big fans that we already had in place for a few more days and that it would all dry up ok.
