This place is going downhill. We had an evaluation with our cat and it took OVER ONE MONTH for the Doctor Lin to FINALLY get back to us with results. The only reason why we received our results is because we had to push and call and express our frustration. For the last week and a half it's "Oh the Dr will call you today." But she doesn't call until the end of her work day, so you can't call her back. She says she'll call on Monday after the weekend. Monday we get no call so we call Tuesday. "Oh she's not in today." This is irresponsible bullshit. What about the first few weeks after our appointment? NOTHING? NO ATTEMPT TO REACH OUT TO YOUR CUSTOMER? Obviously our needs are not a priority for this place. read more

I'm so happy to say I've finally found a vet closer to home that I truly feel cares for my fur babies. I have two 11-year-old chihuahuas, and one of them has had many health issues over the years. When I lived in Oakland, I took my dogs to Grand Lake Vet and when i moved to Richmond I would still make the trip to Oakland because it was all I knew. I l tried another place in El Cerrito but unfortunately had a terrible experience, so I kept making the drive. Recently, I was highly recommended Pinole Vet Hospital, and I'm so glad I decided to check them out. My dog had been itching excessively, so I booked an appointment online -- which was super quick and easy. Check-in was smooth, and the entire staff was so kind and welcoming. From the front desk to the vet tech and the doctor, everyone was wonderful. They genuinely seem to care about their patients, and that means everything. if i could leave zero reviews, i would. i'm highly disappointed with this vet. not only do they just want your money & make you pay for unnecessary things, but they will also throw pills at your dog & call it a day. if you're considering this vet, let my review guide you with your decision. here's my horror story: my dog, Hera, got a tumor removed from her arm at another vet. since this is her primary vet, i asked to have them check the wound- she didn't get stitches bc it's not possible to do stitches on her arm. they had us do weekly checks for a few weeks & she didn't see the same vet, not once, during these weekly checks. she saw different vets each time. my dog started growing a bump near where the tumor was removed. i asked the vets that she saw if it's another tumor growing- they said it's just inflammation. they prescribed her with antiinflammatories. two vets told us it's just inflammation & gave her pills. as the bump started growing, i asked again if it's a tumor. Dr. Lin did a fine needle test on our last visit there, where she poked the bump with a needle & squeezed to see if anything would come out. only blood came out & she said "that's a good thing" & threw pills at us, she also said "it will go away in a month". first of all- this vet didn't tell me that i'd be charged $70 for the fine needle. second of all- it's been more than 2 months since that last visit & the growth got as big as a tennis ball. AND IT RUPTURED. so now my poor dog, Hera, has to get a $5,000+ nonnegotiable surgery to remove this growth & all of its bad cells. another thing i want to mention is that none of the vets even offered to do x-rays, MRI/CT scan, biopsy, or any other test on the growth. her insurance is not able to cover the surgery because the growth rupture is apparently not an emergency. and i can't switch back to the preventative plan because the tumor is "preexisting", EVEN THOUGH THE VETS SAID IT WASN'T A TUMOR. to say i'm infuriated at this pet hospital is an understatement. DO NOT BRING YOUR BELOVED PET HERE, unless you want to get lied to, taken advantage of (so much money wasted here), or if you want your pet to die. i will attach pictures of the new growth. read more

We took in a cat from the Martinez shelter (who has lots of medical issues) and although he is seeing another vet through a non-profit for his medical stuff, you get one free vet visit from participating vets when you adopt from the Martinez shelter so we took advantage of it here just to get him another look and get him registered with this vet. We were in and our pretty quick. Everyone was very nice, the doctor took lots of notes and did a good job. Nothing we didn't know already with him but still good to get his paperwork here to have him registered with another vet. Like I say this little guy has some medical issues that are being covered elsewhere but we will definitely come back here if necessary. We do have other animals and will keep this place in mind. read more

Beware of Pinole Pet Hospital, any venue connected to VetnCare, and Doctors Andrew Moffatt, Emily Lin, and Gina Villaarte. I was billed hundreds of dollars for non-existent tests. This is from an earlier review from JeffRy L.: "Never said what the result of their 'cytology' exam revealed." I made the mistake of taking my dog to Pinole Pet Hospital, and it happened to me, too. I was billed for that and other costly tests, and there is no evidence they were done. The open garbage pail was nearly full; I had to keep my dog away from it. The examining vet barely spoke to me; she had another patient on the other side of the wall at the same time. I already knew my dog had an ear infection; that's why I brought him in. So, what exactly was it, how did he get it, what was the plan? For nearly a thousand dollars, I came away from one office visit learning one thing about my dog: his weight. I complained to the CEO, Andrew Moffatt, and managed to get a partial refund, but it took persistence and saying I would take the matter to court and win. You'll probably see below a reply from office manager Blake Liu, claiming the problem was "miscommunication." Don't fall for it. Dealing with him I thought, "This guy should sell used cars." For some reason, Pinole Pet Hospital is unable (unwilling?) to give any information why my vet - Dr. Patrice Wehren - no longer works there. Has she retired? Is she dead? Or has she left to work elsewhere? Pinole Pet Hospital acts as if veterinarians are interchangeable. THEY ABSOLUTELY AREN'T! Someone recently posted on the Facebook Pinole Dog Park webpage that Dr. Wehren is establishing her practice locally elsewhere. I only hope this is true because after auditioning many vets in the past (all of whom were deficient in numerous ways), Dr. Wehren is everything you would hope for in a veterinarian. Plus, she has knowledge about nutrition for animals, something most vets lack. On the flip side, Pinole Pet Hospital is very much not what anyone caring for their animals would want. I would follow Dr. Patrice Wehren anywhere, and have, for years. I specifically scheduled my spay/neuter of my kittens to be on her surgery day. Well, she is no longer there, and the staff failed to disclose this to me before the surgery. This was the second time they failed to disclose a bait and switch to me! The first time was last week, when they mucked up my Wednesday schedule with Dr. Wheren, and offered Friday. They didn't let me know it wouldn't be Dr. Wehren, and when I found out on Thursday, I had them change it to the following Wednesday specifically so I could have MY vet treat my animals. I accepted this as a simple oversight last week, but then today it happened again! When I asked the front desk guy, at pickup, if she was available, instead of telling me that another doctor did the surgeries, he just said she wasn't available. It wasn't until the vet tech was giving the post op info that I heard that she was no longer there, since the previous day! She had the decency and honesty to be apologetic about not being appropriately informed, at least. If I can't trust the staff, I'm done... so I'm SO done. I'll find Dr. Wehren wherever she lands, and that practice will get my $$ instead. I only wish I hadn't spent so much money in the last few months at this place! Dr. Lin and the staff took care of our 16 yr old tabby cat with stage 4 CKD (chronic kidney disease) for the last 8 months of his life, as our previous vet had to close due to unforseen circumstances. It's very challenging to care for a cat with this disease, but Dr. Lin helped us every step of the way to give him the best, most comfortable last days. We didn't want to have any regrets, so we decided to give him subcutaneous fluids (they get very dehydrated from the loss of kidney function & frequent urination), as well as later needing anti-nausea, & high blood pressure medications. After buying fluids directly from PPH for the first few months we needed to find a more cost effective solution. Dr Lin helped us with the written Rx's as well so we could purchase directly from a pet supplier. Later we needed to add antacids to help him with stomach acid, but she said we were able to just use over the counter Pepcid AC which was great. She's such a kind and thorough Vet, and really cares about animals and understands what we go through with our pets. She knows how much we love them. When the time came to say goodbye, Dr. Lin helped us. She understood how difficult it is, comforted us and gave us some time alone to say goodbye. We were able to choose that we wanted his ashes and pick out a beautiful wooden box with brass name plaque. The front office and Vet techs are also really great and helpful as well. For any animal, well or ill, you will find an excellent and caring Vet in Dr. Lin. We highly recommend Pinole Pet Hospital to anyone with a pet. read more

My dog has been a patient at Pinole Pet Hospital since she was a puppy; she is now 9 years old. Everyone there has been wonderful! We've had a couple of urgent appointments over the last 9 years, (severe vomiting/diarrhea, dog bite, etc) and they've always been able to work us in last minute. Normal/non-urgent appointment slots are not far out either. Dana at the front desk is amazing. She always follows through and is extremely knowledgeable. My dog has seen both Dr. Lin and Dr. Wehren, and both doctors have taken their time and are thorough in explaining treatment options and result follow-ups. Recently we had a false positive heartworm test scare from an outside lab, and Dr. Wehren took so much time to explore what happened and get down to the bottom of the issue. Our vet is Dr. Wehren and we are very glad to have found her and this pet hospital. Our dog, Leo, is 10 years old and has several different problems to deal with. Another vet had diagnosed him with renal problems and prescribed a special food. Dr. Wehren discovered that sufficient testing hadn't been done and that that diagnoses wasn't accurate. After 3 years of trying to find a good dog food that Leo will eat and makes him feel better, we've gotten him stable and eating well. Our vet was able to help our cat, Zorro, aged 3 in similar ways. Took my dog here, had previous relationship several years ago. Treated ears for bacteria and fungal with tresaderm and was charged nearly $300. Never said what the result of their 'cytology' exam revealed. Sent us home with a small bottle of Tresaderm- $58.38, more than double what it costs elsewhere. Called the next day and reported to them I wasn't able to treat the dog by myself as his ears were still to sensitive. The Dr never returned my call. Buyer beware. Always request a paper prescription, all pharmacies carry common medicine for pets or can get it within 48 hours in most cases. read more

Where do I start! Pinole pet hospital is the absolute best with our fur babies! My fur baby Harlem went days without eating or drinking. I took him to Pinole Pet Hospital and they instantly started problem solving. They all were going above and beyond with their service. You can tell that they have a love for what they do! Our first time here was not the happiest moment. One day, We had to find an emergency pet hospital for our beloved senior dog Cujo. A few days later we were back at PPH to put Cujo down. All the PPH staff were so nice, so caring, even crying with us when we had to say goodbye to him. The passion they showed me and my family exceeded my expectations. The only thing this place is interested in is seeing how much money it can extract from your wallet. The up sell is massive. You have to have appointments galore just to get flea and heart worm preventive. You have to have a wellness appointment. Then you have to have a tech appointment. Then tests and more tests. It's never ending and they make you do this every year just to get flea and heart worm preventative. Of course they won't give you flea preventative without all these appointments and tests. "Worst Experience EVER... I literally was standing in the waiting room, trying to pay, CRYING!!!!!" On Saturday June 22nd I brought my 2-year-old 10 month Rottweiler into the Pinole Pet Hospital for our 8:30am appointment. She had been coughing and I had a feeling she got a cold/kennel cough and we needed to get check out and hopefully get some antibiotics. My mother was visiting from out of town and she joined myself and puppy on our morning adventure to the Vet (This is important as she has had 5 dogs in her life which equals many visits to the vet). The three of us (my dog, my mother and myself) where waiting patiently in our exam room when the vet tech came in. She was a quiet tech but came into the room introduced herself to the humans and then got down on her knees to introduce herself to my dog. My dog is 100% a chicken. A paper bag will scare her. She would never attach a paper bag but more so back up and try to get away from the bag. The vet tech was very nice and helped my dog get comfortable. She did what she could to get my dogs temperature and do a visual exam. She confirmed that it looked like my dog had a cold but that the Veterinarian would be in soon to do a full exam. We then waited some more... which is normal and no problem. Then Dr. Louis Roussille came in and went straight to business. I had never met him before and was shocked by his energy, demeaner and attitude to me, as I'm complete stranger but my dog and I are a new customer!! He did not introduce himself to my dog, myself or my mother. He looked my dog said "So you have a cold" and made some movement. My dog did not like this tall man standing over her making movements. Yes she growled at him.... a stranger. Dr Louis Roussille then said "You do that again and you are getting this" and he waved a blue muzzle that he conveniently had in his hand ready! I was in complete disbelief and could not speak. My Mother was also shocked. We both looked at each other like "did he really just say that?". He looked at me like I had done something wrong. That my dog was the problem. Then next think you know he is demanding me to put the muzzle on my dog. Like he was not going to continue the exam until the muzzle was on my dog. He was seriously pissed at me. He then proceeded with his exam and concluded that she had a cold and needed antibiotics. In the 2 years and 10 months that I have had my dog I have NEVER had such a bad experience. He was completely awful. I cant even fully explain what happened because it was so mind blowing. I then quickly took my dog out to my car as I didn't want her in that place any longer. I then went back into the lobby and confronted Dr Louis Roussille about his awful behavior and how dare he call himself a professional Veterinarian. Yes I yelled but I could not keep my cool regarding this professional veterinarians behavior. He then expressed to me that he had a bad experience with Rottweilers when he was younger and didn't want to take any chances. WTF... you have got to my kidding me! Then why was he seeing my dog? If he can't give the same service to all customers than he should not be allowed to see all customers. Clearly he can not handle larger dogs. I literally was standing in the waiting room, trying to pay, CRYING!!!!! It wasn't all about him putting a muzzle on my dog it was more about his energy and how he went about the entire appointment. I left there feeling very disturbed, violated, and taken advantage of. He should not be allowed to care fore any animals in my opinion. My mother, the owner of 5 previous dogs and has been to the veterinarians many times NEVER had seen anything like that. This was my 3rd and final visit to Pinole Pet Hospital. I normally only leave positive reviews, but I cannot let another dog mom have this kind of experience. I have been taking FRISCO to PPH for about 5 years. My first encounter was to have his eye removed. At that time Dr. Lin tried everything she could to save it, it was just too damaged. His health started to decline and Dr. Lin laid it all out for me. He started getting worse so I made the decision to lay him to rest. Dr. Lin and her staff were absolutely wonderful in their guidance with my options. From beginning to end I felt like they had mine and Friscos best interest at heart. I picked up his remains yesterday and although it was sad, I was more than satisfied with the process. Thank you PPH for all your kind words and acts of compassion!
