We had a rehearsal dinner there on March 13, 2020. Due to the coronavirus we had many cancellations at the last minute which meant the cost was incurred by the family. Probably about 25 people didn't come but the Pinstripes ran out of the food. The menu called for hamburger sliders, chicken strips, mozzarella & tomatoes on sticks, calamari and flat bread pizzas all cold. There was one small plate of calamari never refilled and the worst dessert I have ever seen which they called smores, which bore no resemblance to smores. This place may be a fun place for children's birthday parties but don't expect more. Pictures of the place are fantastic but bear no resemblance to the place. I just wanted to provide an update from my reviews last summer now that it's a year later. I think I've been to Pinstripes around 40 times over the last year! The patio is still my favorite in the city and the food and drinks never disappoint. If you go here and sit outside, order a limoncello martini, a margarita italiano, a chicken and avocado flatbread, and the chicken and goat cheese pasta, I guarantee you will leave happy! If not, then you do not like food or drink. I highly recommend you bring family and friends here and enjoy one of the best patios in the city before summer ends. read more

This restaurant is great! The service was amazing. I made a reservation for a group of 15 a few weeks beforehand over the phone although their online reservation system said it was unavailable. They also made me a bowling reservation for two hours for two lanes. It was a pretty slow night so even though we were seated right away, our entire group didn't come until 40 min late but they didn't complain at all. We started with drinks, some yummy bread and a pineapple upside down shot recommended by our awesome server, Jeremy. He even let us split checks which made life so much easier. Bless him! Some Chicago restaurants give you so much attitude if you even ask. On to the food! I tried a few dishes: Italian beef pizza- huge! Can be shared with two people Jambalaya- delish! Chicken and goat cheese pizza- the best!! Bowling was a lot of fun and I loved the free pinstripes socks! The waitress was super nice and not overbearing. We loved this place! Well, it looks like I was right about how everything is always better when things are free! We came back here with a group of friends on a Friday night a few weeks ago for some bowling and bocce fun only to be absolutely disappointed and angered by the total lack of customer service and professionalism at this establishment. But then again, I guess that's what you can expect when the managers look younger than you and you're not even 30 yet. ;) Oh and while they have separate managers for their food and gaming areas, that certainly didn't help with the service at all. If anything, it just seemed to contribute to the overall confusion. In case you're wondering, I do work in a service-oriented industry (Consulting) and even though my clients are companies instead of individuals, the principles remain the same and to make/keep your clients happy, excellent service is always a differentiator and can be a competitive advantage when done at a high level. Anyway, I'll just fast forward and provide the highlights (or shall we say lowlights) of our awful experience: - The lane we were given (lane 5) was clearly broken with the bowling balls behind the pins visibly not coming back. We thought if we started bowling, the balls we rolled would help push them through the machine but instead more balls just got stuck instead of coming back - The intercom button did not appear to bring anyone to our lane or give the ability to call anyone for service as we tried it a couple times to no avail - We were not offered a different lane even though many lanes were empty and we clearly weren't going to get through the two games we paid for in the hour of reserved time given our lane was clearly broken. Note that the lane also randomly shut down a couple of times while we were bowling even though our time hadn't expired yet - They extended our bowling reservation time but yet our lane still shut down at our original end time so that had to get fixed yet again with the help of the manager - The food manager gave us a small slice of cake (it was delicious though) to split among five of us to attempt to make up for our troubles - a refund or a free game of bowling for our next visit would have been more appropriate - The waitress only provided us with a glass of water after asking numerous times. Note that we ordered many beverages and food that night so we weren't being cheap - It wasn't busy which made the lack of service by those doing nothing quite appalling - Near the end, one manager did offer to refund us for the game we didn't start due to all the lane issues and because our bocce reservation was coming up, but when we came to the front, the lady who was instructed to give us a refund said we had played all the games we paid for (computer showed 5 games played/paid for even though we paid for 10 games - 2 per person) - This same lady then refused to look at our receipts and do any math (maybe she didn't know math?) to verify or refute our claims and just kept pointing to the computer instead. Um yes, computers can be wrong due to user error ;) - Only after getting to the point of being angry and accusing them of swindling us, did the unprofessional manager finally give us a refund but the damage was already done Needless to say, we didn't stick around for our bocce reservation and will never be back. What a travesty since I live right next to this place and it started off with so much promise during their grand-opening party. Hire some EXPERIENCED, service-oriented and polite managers and train all staff how to provide GOOD customer service immediately! The sad part is, its location in a high-traffic tourist area will probably keep this place in business without making any staff or service improvements Save yourself the trouble we experienced and avoid this place! read more

The party planning staff is disorganized and unprofessional- do not plan an event here. I tried to set up a party and was given the runaround for days before finally connecting with a human, who told me that despite prior conversation guaranteeing event accommodation, they were booked and unable to assist. As a regular event planner, this behavior is unacceptable and does not instill confidence in the staff or event capabilities. Background: I called ten days in advance to set up and reserve space for a birthday party on a Wednesday night. after speaking with the receptionist, i was transferred to the event planners and left a message. no one returned my call, so i called back 2 days later. i spoke with an event planner at that time who confirmed availability and sent pricing information. however, she did not answer any of the questions discussed on the call nor did she provide a recommendation in her note. when i followed up by email requesting a call or response, i received nothing. i called multiple times and never spoke with a planner. two days later, i called back and by some miracle was connected with a planner. this planner informed me that the reservation was never made and that the venue is now booked. read more

My boyfriend and I were taking a stroll along the lake one Monday evening when we stumbled upon Pinstripes and decided to grab a quick drink. We had no idea that there was "real" bowling alleys there because all we saw as we walked in was a couple bocce alleys on the left of the front desk and the bar on the far right. That said, the bowling area was completely separated from the bar and kitchen, so you can hardly hear people bowl, which is nice! We got a couple drinks to start the night with. Prices are typical, about $6-8 for tap or draft beers, $11 for more sophisticated cocktails. The bartender was very friendly and helpful, especially when we asked about the place (didn't know that it has only opened for a couple weeks!). BONUS: she asked whether it was our first time at Pinstripes, and since it was, she gave me and my boyfriend each a little elastic bracelet so when we do come back the second time and present the bracelets, we will either get a glass of red or wine each, on the house, OR, a desert of our choice if we decide to order food. So...I guess we'll be coming back :) What a nice little surprise! Then, we decided to have a few games of bowling, no reservation needed since it wasn't such a busy night! A game is usually $5/person, and shoe rental is $4. But, they do have a special after 8PM on Sun-Thurs when a game is only $3, so I highly recommend everyone to take advantage of that for some late-night bowling. The bowling area is nice and classy, with comfy sofas! You'll need to pick out your own bowls from the shelves and bring it over to your lane. I always enjoy playing backyard bocce ball in the park or in a family or friends backyard in the suburbs. I love that most of my friends and family members have little to no skill when it comes to this sport so everyone's at the same ability level. Additionally, lack of bocce ball skills seems to prompt more socializing, drinking, and fun and less "serious" play (definitely a positive in my book). I think it was about five months ago I was searching for bocce ball courts in Chicago and came up completely empty-handed. I had been to the Northbrook Pinstripes location a couple times and always wondered why they hadn't opened a downtown Chicago location. The owners of Pinstripes must have also realized there was absence of bocce courts downtown because they finally opened this new location in February! You can only imagine my excitement when I learned that I no longer have to travel to the suburbs to play bocce ball! Eager to try out their new location, I made a reservation for 9:00pm bocce on a Friday. It was $10 a person and that would include court-side drink/food service. (If you don't go on a Friday or Saturday during evening/night hours it's only $5 a person.) Our group of four decided to arrive early to go to the bar for dinner and drinks before our bocce reservation. We were very happy to see that they had drink specials each day of the week INCLUDING Fridays. Finding a drink deal on a Friday downtown is not easy to come by so we were impressed by this good value! Their Friday drink deal was half priced wines under $50. Of course we decided to go with the Friday special and decided on a cabernet sauvignon which was great for the price we paid. We also shared a calamari appetizer and margarita pizza which were both great. After some food and drinks we were ready for some bocce ball! At our 9:00pm reservation the group before us wasn't quite finished so we were led downstairs to the bocce ball courts around 9:15pm. There are three courts downstairs and we had the middle court. Additionally, they have some lounging areas where groups can hang out when they aren't playing bocce ball. Our court-side bartender said that we were supposed to get half of that area but the group against the wall had taken up all of the chairs. It would have been nice if they had talked to the other group about sharing because we ended up laying our coats and bags over the court railing. Next time I would request the court farthest from the wall because they didn't seem to share their lounge area with another court. While playing bocce, we continued to take advantage of the half priced wine on Fridays and tried a few beers on tap. Since the group before us was running 15 minutes late it was nice that they allowed our group to also run 15 minutes late so we receive the full hour we paid for. After we played bocce we decided to check out their patio on the river. They had a fire pit, complimentary blankets, and an outdoor bocce court. It was pretty large and super nice. It will definitely be a real gem in the warmer months! We also walked by the bowling alleys and they had some really nice lounging areas you can hang out in when you're not bowling. Overall, Pinstripes has a cool/trendy atmosphere, great daily drink specials, good food and, of course, bocce ball courts downtown! (Pinstripes- I hope you keep your daily drink specials going!) I LOVE PINSTRIPES. There. I said it. I feel better. Bocce is probably the funnest thing out there. My husband and I went together for a Yelp event, and we had the best time. The snacks that were passed around were also delicious. We loved it so much, we went back a few days later on a double date. We started off great--we ordered some appetizers and drinks and started playing. Unfortunately, there was a mix up with our reservation and our game was stalled for a little, but the manager (Chris--love that guy!) quickly swooped in and basically made the night for us. When I say the service at Pinstripes is unparalleled, I mean it. He made sure we had the best night, and we definitely did. The food was also incredibly delicious--everything we ate was amazing. I'd highly recommend Pinstripes. I can't say enough good things about it. I think it would be a fab choice for a first date, a night out with friends, anything. Like other reviewers, I came here with a friend for the Yelp Elite event. I was impressed. When I first walked in, I wasn't sure if I had the right place because it feels like you're walking into a restaurant. I tried to peer beyond the restaurant tables to see if I could spy the bowling alleys, but they are discreetly at the back in another room. You wouldn't have thought that they had bowling and bocce. The bocce is in the basement and the set up was pleasing. There was also a bar there and plenty of seating. The whole venue is classy, spacious, and pleasing to the eye. Great design. Bowling was a lot of fun. I loved that they had logo'd socks if you didn't have any. Their shoes were so shiny and new, as were their balls...tee hee. Tito's and Buffalo Trace were featured in their cocktails. I stuck with the bourbon ones and the cocktails were excellent. Food: I had the Italian beef flatbread or pizza...couldn't tell which, but it was good. Desserts were good as well. They get one star knocked off because service started a little slow and was feast or famine, and food was ok, but they're trying to work out their kinks as I'm seeing in the other reviews. Our waitress was sweet and nice, despite the fact that Yelpers allegedly (i heard from a bartender at another yelp elite event) not tip well, if at all, at these free events. I had such a great time here when I came to visit Chicago a few weekends ago. I flew in a little late, so I missed the group dinner, but I was able to enjoy myself at the bocce ball set. My boyfriend and I split 2 bottles of wine at 1/2 price, and they were delicious. I also got the shrimp and tomato flatbread. It was so good, and it heated up well the next day for leftovers. Walking down the street when we were offered free lemonade by Raymond. He was one of the friendliest guys I've met and he told us all about Monday's specials: $10 all you can eat spaghetti & meatballs and chopped salad. Me and all my cousins got the private 2 lanes. The vibe is super nice with jazz music playing and great lighting. The spaghetti and meatballs are super amazing! The chopped salad is also very good too, almost on par with Portillos salad. They gave us free socks to take home and my parents got free glasses of wine with the wristbands Raymond gave us. This is a great place to take your family for a fun night. Some friends of ours came in town last weekend for a double date Valentine's day style I had heard of Pinstripes opening awhile back after attending events when it was the River East Art Center. What a transformation! The place is very cool-- big space, and even when going to the bathroom noticed there were more bocce courts and things on the lower level as well. I made a reservation for 4 PM Bocce and figured it would be great to get in some cocktails and hang time before our dinner reservation that night. I should have made the reservation for 2 hours because after an hour we had to accommodate another party, which is fine, but definitely something to consider in the future and their rates were really cheap I think 5/person before 5 PM so definitely great for a good indoor activity for a group! The host situation was a bit awkward when we got there--- but after a few minutes we finally were able to get started and play. The manager stopped over and gave us thorough but needed instructions on how to play (I thought I knew how to play but clearly didn't) and keep score which was great. Then Jeremy (our waiter) came over and got us started on drinks and snacks. He was awesome! We ordered a flatbread and cheese balls-- and when I complained that the cheese ball ordered seemed small for a group app- he brought us over dessert, which was so sweet! He was the highlight of our experience there-- and honestly we would have just hung out there all night. Came here for a Yelp Elite event as a plus one. Bocce Ball was new to me but very fun. Service was slow at first due to the amount of people but we made friends with one of the managers. The drinks he made us were amazing! After 1.5, that was all we needed. Nice place and great ambiance. I loved the view of the river walk. I've been here on 3 separate occasions now and have so many good things to say about this place. Weekend brunch - AWESOME. They have a carving station, waffle station (my favorite), omelette station, chocolate fondue station, both breakfast and lunch options, and kid favorites (fries, chicken tenders, pizza, etc.). All so good. Oh! and (how could I possibly forget) bottomless mimosas! Private Bowling Party - AWESOME. They have a private bowling room that is great for birthday parties and groups. Their event coordinator is extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Dinner on the patio - AWESOME. They have heaters, blankets, pretty lake view, good food, reasonably priced. Catering for corporate events - AWESOME. After visiting the Navy Pier-glad we did not eat there! We happened upon Pinstripes on a cold rainy day in Chicago. We had a great time for lunch. We ate first. We had the soup special -Chicken Tortilla-outstanding. Flavorful and loaded with chicken and veggies! I also had the small Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Shrimp were warm and the salad was cold. Tossed with house made dressing. My son had the 1/2 rack of ribs and side of mac and cheese. He loved them. So much he would not share!!!My wife had the Italian Grinder and cup of the creamy tomato soup. Both were tasteful and well made. Perfect meal for that day. Had dinner here before catching a show at Winters Jazz Club. The food was very good, and while there were a couple of glitches with our order, the staff and management were so helpful & responsive that we ended up not minding at all. I understand the post-Covid pressures on restaurants but Pinstripes responsiveness was the epitome of how errors should be handled. Cudos to Joel, the manager. This rating is really only for the food. The location itself is quite classy and very close to the pier. You can choose to dine here without bowling or bocce. I only saw the bocce setups--it looks like all the bowling is downstairs. Service was slow, but I think it was because dinner service had just started when we went. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was okay. There was nothing really to ooh and ahh about. I don't think it was worth the price we paid for. Server was very helpful in choosing beers, but again, there wasn't an extensive selection. You're better off with wine here. tl;dr short beer draft selection, ok food; a bit on the pricey side. I went in for brunch with some friends who recommended it when I moved to the area. We had a reservation walked in and sat in the dining room near the window. We got bottomless mimosas, and the pitcher it came in was disgusting it looked like it had not been cleaned. The server offered to get us a new one and replace the dirty one. The food was fine, but it did take some time, one order was messed up, and all orders had their eggs cooked to the wrong temperature. The server apologized and had the kitchen remake the orders only for it to be wrong again. We told her it was fine, as everything else was great, but she said a manager would stop by. We ended up having the manager, Joel, stop by the table who explained it happens a lot and told us they are not an "egg" restaurant, which I get, but then do not have it on the menu. we ended up never getting it fixed, closed out with the server - who was wonderful and left. This all would have been fine except when leaving we used the restroom downstairs, and there was a giant cockroach crawling on the toilet. We decided after that we were going to get a few more drinks at Robert's when that same manager Joel was there drinking at the bar. He downed his drink and told the bartender he was heading back to work. Normally, I would have given this place another chance but after the cockroach and an intoxicated manager, I think not. read more

The food (chicken avocado flatbread, lasagna, spinach artichoke dip) was fresh and delicious. The free bread they bring out beforehand is also great. The decor and ambience is nice and the space is big, lofty, and comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms and everything was clean. It's only a few blocks away from our condo so we were really excited to try it. However, service was pretty much nonexistant. Not sure what was going on because it wasn't very busy and it was random thursday night, but person A took our drink order like five minutes after we had been seated, then person B (who turned out to be our actual server for the night) showed up later to take our order. Our entrees came out pretty quickly but our appetizer didn't arrive until we were done with the meal--and they only figured it out because we flagged down a random employee and asked them about it. No one checked on us throughout the duration of the meal and our drinks were not refilled until we asked for the check. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or what but was pretty disappointed by the experience. Hopefully our service that night was a fluke and their delicious food and fun concept will entice us enough to come back. read more

We walked in on a Saturday night and we knew that it was packed and we walked around and the place looks great. Since it was packed and we deiced to get ahead of the game and make reservations for any Saturday coming up (we were pretty open) We went to the front desk and they told us NEXT Saturday was open for bowling at 8 pm and it was their last lanes. She even kindly suggested we take it for two hours for more bowling time. She took our name and phone number. To our surprise come Saturday at 8 pm they don't have our reservation with our name or phone number. The person who answered the phone, read over the list of reservations names and nothing. They asked if we wanted to speak to a manager to tell us we cant get a lane? Maybe in a few months they will get their reservations together and maybe we will try again. read more

I held a non-traditional "rehearsal dinner" for my wedding here and we all had sooo much fun. I do wish I had gone in to try some of the food first, because I may have made different selections for the folks we had coming, however this was a perfect venue for my husband's family and mine to spend time together for the first time. Since they had never met, we wanted to have an event the night everyone got into town that encouraged mingling and conversation, and boy did this fit the bill! Very cute atmosphere. Candle lit dinner is always cute. The server was awesome and super attentive. So much teamwork among the servers/bussers/host we never really waited around for anything. The grilled chicken club sandwich was SOO good. Came with a side romaine salad with yummy honey lime vinaigrette. My boyfriend got a spicy crispy club sandwich (we were in the mood for sandwiches lol). Arnold Palmer & lemonade hit the spot! Definitely recommend. This is a review in the making since I have only been for the Elite Yelp! event and I need to review under a standard visit but I really liked it. This puts 10Pin and Lucky Strike to shame. Lanes 1 and 2 are private and can be reserved. The rest are extremely upscale and you have servers as well. We only tried a few of their flatbreads but the roast beef one was awesome! Next time I go I'll try bacci ball as well. The outside area is great and they have brunch specials. The service was the real standout for me. Sean, the manager, was extremely helpful and gave us a full tour. We also got a bogo lunch coupon from Francisca, who took the time to explain bacci to us. Pinstripes is definitely not my scene as I don't typically go out in Streeterville. That being said, if I am in the area(as I was) and looking to grab a drink and some grub for happy hour, I will likely come back to Pinstripes. They had a few good beers on tap for $4(Alpha King, Butterfly Flashmob) and half off apps. We had a couple flatbreads, calamari, and spinach artichoke dip and I would have them again.
