I am currently staying at the Palmer house hotel so going to dinner at the hotel was very convenient. The food was excellent and the service was great. I wanted to get more pictures of the restaurant and Bar area to show off the decor. The painted ceiling is very detailed. I had a great experience here today.

Review for Lockwood Express, adjacent to the Restaurant and Bar. This is a convenient grab & go bar for your scores needs if you don't have time for a sit down breakfast lunch or dinner. Pricing is decent. They have a few select warm breakfast menu, some pastries, and the famous renowned brownie. The farmhouse muffin breakfast was really good and I had latte to pair it with. Brownie is rich and yummy, worth the rich historic recipe. Fast service, the morning line moves at a good pace. There's a nice seating common area, spacious enough to do some work or socialize.

I love coming here for the holidays! It's such a cozy spot -- I can't get over enjoying a drink, the unique ceilings, and the beautiful tree in the background. Just a heads-up: service can be slow. During our visit, we only got through one round because the server admitted they couldn't attend to us fully and offered the choice to either close the tab or get another server. Since we were ready to relax, it didn't really bother us. The drinks were good, and we were able to enjoy them in peace -- it just took a bit of time. Still a lovely holiday

Came here for lunch since I had a big credit due to Hilton status. However, he experience was so enjoyable, I spent way over my credit!! lol. Bartender was very personable. Everyone in a good mood. I had the seared tuna sandwich and it came out as ordered. The fries were good. Too good! Drinks awesome. Great service. Would eat here again.

Lockwood restaurant is located in the grand, historic Palmer House. I was surprised when we walked in and it was so void of decor. It reminded me of a Denny's. I'm not exaggerating. Luckily, I really don't care about ambiance and decor as long as the food is good. Well, the food was not good. I really shouldn't have ordered the chicken when the server confirmed it was white meat, but I figured it was marinated shawarma and wouldn't be dry. It was...and super dry at that. The tatziki helped get a few bites down but I couldn't (and didn't want to) finish even one of two of the pieces. Apps: Tuna tostadas were ok. Beef empanadas dry. Roasted cauliflower was boring considering the $21 price tag for a few pieces. Actually, all the apps were over $20. Outrageous for what we got. The caramel cheesecake was sickeningly sweet. Except for a couple tables of two, we were the only ones dining in a near empty restaurant on a Friday night. That was probably a good indication of what was to be. Just do drinks in the swanky lobby and enjoy the live music!

The Lockwood Restaurant and Bar at the Palmer House Hotel is a welcoming space for guests. We came here for breakfast since it was included with our room credit. The restaurant is cozy, clean, and has a really nice atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. I had the American Breakfast with two over-easy eggs, bacon, roasted potatoes, toast, and fresh fruit for $22 , a fair price for a hotel breakfast. My husband had the avocado biscuit with eggs for $19, and it was really good too. Overall, good food, great service, and a relaxing vibe. A nice way to start the morning if you're staying at the Palmer House

This review is for Lockwood Express. I had the privilege of stopping by the market in the hotel prior to leaving the city. The Lockwood express has many grab and go options, but I had my eyes set on the brownie. This brownie recipe is the original brownie recipe that beats all recipes! The brownie is moist, sweet, but not overly sweet and Soo good! Simple ingredients that are located on the packaging. Most definitely stop by while in Chicago. The staff was nice and check out was a breeze ( I was the only person in line lol) The hotel lobby is beautiful as well! The Lockwood Express is located on the second floor next to the restaurant.

Historic Hotel lobby in famous art and theater district: Check! Nice atmosphere at the reception area with well-dressed young lady to greet us: Check! And that's as far as it went. The menu was tight. Not too many options, and that could mean two things, the chef and crew can execute these to the optimal level, or the chef is trying to keep food cost and staff low. The latter won. I got the tomato soup and burger, hard to mess that up, and carried the most reasonable price in the menu. First the Tomato soup, or as described, "ROASTED TOMATO Soup, SAM MARZANO TOMATO-FRESH BASIL *v (for vegan)". The boat-shaped soup dish is a nice shade of under bridge L-train rust. As I faced my tomato soup, my wife asked me, "what are you thinking about?" Me:"My poor life choices that led me to this soup." With the taste and consistency of 7-11 pizza sauce, I was more than a bit underwhelmed. The taste was metallic, heavy on the pepper, and oregano. Not in a good way. I could not taste the fresh basil advertised. The packaged grisseni that came with it would only be a nice touch if I was having this meal in an Airplane. The burger was not bad, juicy and well seasoned. The bun was branded with a cattle seared logo on top. But the from-frozen-bag fries, brought the plate back to earth. Yet this was the best part of the meal. The service was forgettable. Water with no ice after first refill-and a disappointing look on the server when we did not want adult drinks. Looking at my half-touched soup that remained on the table even after we got the check, it seemed as if it was taunting me? Why did the waiter leave it on the table? Even after I finished my entree? Was this the start of a convoluted French horror art house film, where the soup is the misunderstood monster and I, the horrible American traveler who instigated my own demise by not realizing its potential, therefore turning it into a tale of woe...? Maybe? So many questions. At the end, my wife asked: "Do you want a doggy bag for your soup?" Me: "Only if it comes with a dog to eat it." This restaurant is a bit of a mystery, lots of potential, but poorly executed. I am sure it was a grand restaurant back in the day, but sadly this is now just an overpriced tourist trap.

The breakfast sandwich served gluten-free! The photograph doesn't show it but the fruit was sweet & delicious.

The breakfast sandwich is savory gluten-free decadence when you order it on GF toast! It's like an omelette sandwich with avocado spread and tomato jam. My partner's pancakes looked fluffier than most. And once I asked for water without ice, I was never without it, so the service is super attentive. This restaurant is located in The Palmer Hotel, no signage on the sidewalk so it might seem hard to locate. Just enter the hotel lobby on Monroe St and head up the stairs.

Vanilla Chai Tea White Russian
Anirudh J.

Just came for a drink. I fancy seasonal menus and "limited-time" menu options all the time. I saw the Vanilla Chai Tea White Russian and I had to have it. In my mind, I was thinking notes of cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and cardamom. I got punched in the face by star anise. The drink itself was good, but I wouldn't add "chai" in the name of it when it tastes more like an espresso martini. The garnishes were too much. Who needs an entire stick of cinnamon and two star anise cloves? Answer, no one. It just seemed wasteful and they wanted the smell to bring those flavors of vanilla chai. Star anise is a strong smell, so it hits you right there and makes it hard to taste the other flavors. Smell is part of the tasting experience. No comments on the service as I was not there for long to give a proper review of it. The Palmer House is a classy location and the Lockwood Restaurant and Bar is right in the middle of the lobby area, surrounded by the ornate, classical decor. Love it. Overall, the drink needs some work, especially with how it's being consumed as an experience.

We had a 20 minute wait so we went to our room for a bit until our table was ready. We were seated and immediately given a menu. We ordered a burger and a steak. The burger was probably one of the best I've had and the steak was amazing. The fries were also crunchy and fresh (I like them crunchy). The food was absolutely amazing and I would definitely be back!

This was well worth the price considering the awful breakfast we had somewhere else. The toast isn't burnt. It is pumpernickel and it tasted like they got it from a special bakery. It wasn't like any other pumpernickel that I've had before. The servers worked in tandem and both were quick and efficient.

Armstrong for a nightcap
Sergio F.

Located in the mezzanine of the famous Palmer Hotel, I stopped by this Chicago institution on Michelle W's recommendation for a nightcap after my Saturday dinner. I'm guessing I arrived close to last call and on a day of proms and whatnot because service did feel a little rushed. I mean, there was little banter or other recommendations. That's why I can only rate this three stars. The space itself is beautiful with floor and ceiling mosaics, which I had seen earlier during one of the architecture tours. My drink, the Armstrong - captain Morgan, orange and tiki bitters - was actually pretty smooth and well mixed.

Friendly and lively dive bar (4/5 Green Stars) Waiting for…read moretake-out from nearby Lou Malnati's, we wandered into Rossi's for a quick drink. It's a reasonably-priced busy dive bar in the heart of Chicago. I asked the bartender if she had a beer + shot deal and she said "no, but you can order a beer and shot." And so we did! Noise level is fairly high, thanks to a lively crowd plus a jukebox. They don't normally serve food but I think are fine with customers bringing in your own food, and you can also place an order from a nearby restaurant (I don't recall which one). And yes, it's cash only so bring some money if you don't want to pay ATM fees! 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. I like bars that allow customers to bring (or order) their own food - it allows for all diets! The one thing I'd like to see is more beer on tap - even just one good rotating local beer (e.g., Goose Island). Draft beer has smaller environmental footprints compared to bottled or canned.

After a quick ID check at the door, the bouncer let us know it's cash only (thankfully we came prepared). From the moment we walked in, dim lighting, loud music, and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds gave the vibe of a full-on frat party, but not in a bad way. It's chaotic, energetic, and unapologetically no-frills. There's even a self-serve cooler with drink prices clearly listed underneath. I grabbed a Sapporo Premium, brought it to the counter, and our friendly bartender broke our change and offered a chilled glass to pour it into. Simple and efficient. That said, it was loud, so loud that even whispering-distance conversations were a struggle. The space is small, seating is limited, and since we couldn't snag a spot, we ended up leaving shortly after finishing our drinks. This feels like a better weekday hang than a packed weekend night. Still, if you're looking for a classic, gritty, no-frills dive experience, Rossi's delivers exactly that.

Toward the end of the night, two of my friends left, and the remaining two of us paid our bill and were finishing our drinks while waiting for our Uber. At that point, the bartender came over and told us she needed our table for a large group. The table wasn't reserved, and we were clearly just finishing up. We told her we were about to leave anyway, but the way it was handled felt really abrupt and rude. What made it worse was that she immediately brought a group over to take our table, and even they were apologizing to us because they seemed uncomfortable with how it was handled. I've worked in bars and restaurants myself, so I completely understand needing to manage space, but there's a way to do it respectfully, and this wasn't it. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression, and despite having been here multiple times before, I won't be returning.
