What a great spot! Tons of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. Fun vibe- tucked into historic downtown Palestine next to a creek and old cotton gin. We loved the pretzel and beer cheese appetizer and my turkey club sandwich was the best club sandwich I have ever had. The turkey is smoked on site (as is all of their meat- smoker in full view in outdoor seating area!) and the turkey was moist, tender, and oh so incredibly flavorful. My kids loved the custom French fries (really unique shape and perfectly fried!). If I had judged this place the first time I came for lunch during the work week, this review would not have been generous. However, I gave this place another shot on a slow, overcast weekend. Walk in to this place and order at the bar. There is a menu and some specials on the chalkboard. They'll take your name and give you a place card for your table - sit inside or out. You can even start a tab if you think you'll order more. The first time I came, I had the smoked wings. They were really dry and drowning in a very sweet BBQ sauce that was so overwhelming, sticky and sliding I wasn't able to eat the wings correctly. The tomato soup was underwhelming, nothing to write home about. One side of the toast was crispy and toasted, the other was plain and untoasted. Rather odd way to serve bread with soup. The next time, tried the a beer on draft (can't recall the name) that was very similar to Blue Moon and Bottled Pear Cider. I will be back for that Cider!! Light and crisp cider with a small hint of sweet pear. Also, tried the pretzel and beer cheese. Holy carb load amazing ness. The serving size was a bit of a shock. They are only two small bread pretzels but a generous portion of melted cheese. We sat out on the patio with no complaints. They even had some mosquito repellent out on the patio. Plenty of space for the kiddos to run around. Don't pass up going to the Oxbow across the street for delicious pie! I had to respect that this place only goes by word of mouth. I saw someone come in to sell yearbook advertisement, but quickly learned this place has been growing from just word of mouth. This is a hidden gem for east Texas. The is no table service to order your food however the food is brought out to your table after you order at the bar, pay and are given a number to place on your table. Staff was friendly. We shared a turkey club sandwich that came with fries and coleslaw. I was dying to try the blue cheese fondue fries. Everything was good. (The sandwich was on the greasy side as you can see from the photo of my half on greasy napkins That's the reason for the 4 star review.) Really liked the fries the best out of everything. It makes me smile that craft brew and gastro pubs are spreading across our great state. Even a relatively small town like Palestine now has one. The Pint and Barrel Drafthouse is an awesome place. A really nice building and patio area and friendly staff made me feel at home. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fried green tomatoes and a tomato soup. It was an excellent meal. They have some good beers and wines, but the selection was lacking big time. They really need to add some of the better Texas beers. St Arnold's and Karbach from Houston need to be there. Southern Star from Conroe and Real Ale from Blanco should also be included. In their defense, a lot of people who came in were not hop heads. I heard people asking for Shiner, Bud, Miller, and other nasty beers. However, the whole point of a gastro pub is to educate, expand people's horizons, to send them on an odyssey of beer awesomeness. Ordered the blue cheese fries and a cheese burger with some bacon added to it. Just had a water to drink with it since it was during work hours. Food was Delicious though So glad I stopped in. A few things I noticed is the cut of everything. The pickles were a thicker cut, fries and the meat patty. Hope to stop by again! read more

Love the outside. Big covered patio with picnic tables. A big green yard with a monster fire pit. The perfect place to party if it's not July hot! Inside is quite plain. Grab a menu and order at the right end of the bar. Take your number and grab a table. It was too hot to sit outside so we missed out on the greatness. Been in twice. Both times, food dry and not very good. Onion rings are ok, smoked chicken breast tough as shoe leather. First time I approach the bar, barkeep immediately says give me your credit card to start a tab; no asking what we want, no time to decide--Just give up a credit card. I felt like asking if there was a charge for breathing in there. Second time definite mistrustful, we-hate-outsiders vibe. Ask for my usual beer, instead of simply telling me they are out, wait staff tries to push another selection on me. When I say why I can't get what I asked for, manager sort of bows up and starts glaring at me. I just tell wait staff to let me know they're out of my selection and I'll order something else, not a big deal. After we get our drinks, we sit down at a table and the same manager comes around and makes a big show of sitting down nearby and glaring at me for like half an hour. So they charge you 12.99 for a meal and on the menu on the Internet it says 9.99. So when you go pick up your food, there's an additional six or seven dollars and they know people are just going to pay it. Then, they want to give you a takeout charge and they are using the same supplies they would've used if you ate there! There's plenty of other places to eat I won't be back there. read more

Well, first time there and had to figure out how and where to order our food at, since no host/hostess, and learned it was at the bar where we were handed menus. Only after ordering did we realize there were specials on the chalkboard above the bar we could have ordered but no one mentioned them. Almost no tables inside but lots scattered outside, most with shade at lunchtime. They also didn't say when they brought out the food that we would have to pickup utensils and napkins indoors. My burger was a little under cooked, asked for medium but it was pert near rare but from the wine to the buns on the burger no detail went unattended! I have never had fries like this! We drove into town after 8:30 pm which limited our dinner opportunities as most places closed at 9 pm on a weeknight. The draft house - opened until later - had a real local feel and expansive yard seating. It would be the perfect place to meet friends, enjoy the craft beers and relax. It really wasn't our place. As visitors we didn't get a warm welcome from behind the counter. We set up a tab and ordered a beer with a turkey club and one of the chalkboard specials, crawfish pie and bites. The club sandwich was pretty good with toasted bread and ample shredded turkey. The special was not good - tasted like something I could get in the freezer section at Sams Club and fry at home. If I'd ordered something else and we'd felt more welcomed, this review would be higher. read more

The location of this place is fantastic in Old Town Palestine. Lots of beautiful tall trees you can see from the large porch. The beer selection is great. They have a couple basic beers and plenty of craft beers, some from Texas and other states as well. The wine list looked nice too, with several European wines on the menu. I literally couldn't close my tab because the person walked away from me and went in the back. Took 45 minutes to get chili and chicken strips. I really love the food here but the service was beyond abysmal this time. I hate to write a review like this because we've had so many good experiences here but I was completely ignored when trying to pay my bill and I just left since they already had my card on file. Amazing service and food! The burgers were really well made and all the sides were to die for! The spinach artichoke dip was really fresh and the onion rings will make you tear up for joy. Definitely a gem in Palestine!
