We visited Home Grill Steakhouse on a Sunday after church while vacationing in East Texas, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We arrived around 11:30 a.m. and were seated immediately, even as the restaurant quickly filled with the after-church local crowd. Seeing so many locals choosing to eat here made us feel like we'd found the right place. Our server, Trish, was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and checked on us just the right amount--always available without ever making us feel rushed. Our family of seven ordered a variety of meals and everything was a hit. The catfish basket special was a favorite with my parents. My grilled pork chop was cooked perfectly and came with a baked potato and delicious grilled squash and broccoli. My husband enjoyed the grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings, our daughter loved the kids' sirloin with mac and cheese, and our youngest happily devoured his chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and fresh fruit. What stood out most wasn't just the food--it was the overall experience. Great service, generous portions, a welcoming atmosphere, and a dining room full of locals all combined to make this a memorable meal. I thought the place was grubby looking. I think that's the look they were going for but I thought it felt dirty. I ordered the chop steak. It was VERY salty. I couldn't finish it. The gravy had started to coagulate so it had been sitting under a heat lamp which explains the long wait. My son had the sirloin steak. he said it had way too much garlic. Really nice waitress. The fried okra was great! The steak was ok - and that's what I went for. It was a little overcooked (I ordered medium rare) but it wasn't too bad. The bad part was the burned/charred outside. Like the grill hadn't been cleaned. Not much flavoring. The grilled broccoli had the same charred taste of the steak. My friend and I visited Palestine for 4th of July weekend and this just so happened to be one of the only open places that day. I'm glad we came here because we got some good steaks for pretty cheap and they were cooked to perfection. They really lived up to their name because everything tasted home cooked. Quite possibly one of the best restaurants in town. Best food and service thus far! Glad we found this place.

For their 2 year anniversary, they had some specials. One was the Wagyu Rib-eye. On top of that, we had a 50% off one item coupon the restaurant provided for us in our menu. So, since neither of us had ever had a Wagyu steak, we gave it a try. WOW CRAZY GOOD The steak was cooked to perfection, It was full of flavor and we ate every bite. I don't really know how else to describe it? It's a must try if you've never had it. The chicken fried steak is delicious too. We both had the grilled vegetables (our favorite side). We stopped in to grab a late lunch. The dining area was a mess with a number of un-bussed tables. Service was fast and friendly. We were shown to a table. Our table was a little sticky. The oils left on the table eventually stained my shirt. I ordered a 10oz New York strip steak blue, with fried okra and grilled broccoli. My wife ordered a cowboy steak medium (aka a Salisbury steak) with grilled broccoli and green beans. My steak was definitely blue. My wife's was a bit overdone. The New York strip steak, was an ounce or more of fat. It was overpriced at $30. The fried okra was crisp but bland. The grilled veggies were a bit overdone, but good. Everything was a little salty. We were there for an early dinner. I had the lunch portion of the chopped streak. It came with two side and I select the mixed vegetables and green beans. Other than being a bit too salty the food was fine. My husband had the New York strip steak, very rare and they know how to do very rare, fried okra and broccoli for the sides. We selected this place based on the 4.5 star reviews but while the food was fine it was not of 4.5 star. The staff were friendly. The atmosphere was fine good music piped in. Came here for dinner after coming to town for the Texas state Railroad trip. We had a table of 9 and none of us were overly impressed. I got the Chicken Fried Sirloin and it had WAAAY too much breading. Honestly the best thing on my plate was the baked potato. My friend got a burger and he said the meat was not good. He got a ghost pepper burger after being told it was honestly not that spicy, upon receiving it he couldn't eat it because every part of it was overwhelmingly spicy. So they brought him a different burger and he took a few bites and couldn't eat more he said it just did not taste good. My other friend, my Wife, and my mother in law got the chicken tenders and they said their food wasn't necessarily bad it was just mediocre. Passing through town tonight and found this hidden gem, the service was amazing from the chicken Fried chicken the chicken tenders and ribeye was amazing juicy and full of flavor, you have to get the mozzarella sticks with homemade marinara, fried pickles, and the mushrooms were amazing. This is a great option if you're ever in palestine- they have an extensive menu, excellent customer service and good flavors. We enjoyed the skillet queso, it's not on the menu and isn't in a skillet anymore (which definitely would have been a nice touch)- i guess you could call it loaded queso- i you can tell it's made with real cheese and wow giant juicy steak in it! The kids were big fans of that! The environment is comfy casual, which is a little surprising considering their steak prices are pricier. It's hard to fathom paying $40ish for a steak with the environment but i heard the steaks are good. We ended up splitting the pork chops- the grilled flavor was great- unfortunately the pork chops were dry/over cooked. We enjoyed the sides of mac n cheese and fried okra- the adult sides were small considering- definitely the sides weren't the best size to split. The pork chops were a good amount of food considering that we got the queso for an appetizer. The kids meal was a great value and lots of food! i swear that their sides were larger than the adults (which come in small little bowls). it's 2:30 am I'm on the toilet moaning with a bucket between my legs!! steak was thin, chewy and medium rare was char on one side , I expressed to server, I want red not pink, twice!! I I maybe one bite of pink on the very middle the rest was charred. limp overcooked fries and raw broccoli so salty it needed to be rinsed and thrown back on the grill as long as the steak was on there and it would've been edible. must say momma's chocolate pie was the only thing that gotcha a star. asked for steak sauce and never got it. and I guess I don't know what good comedy is anymore!! read more

Not what you'd call greasy, it taste very fresh. Filled with amazing flavor. We order the trio appetizer and it was enough for for 3-4 people to have a good amount of appetizing. We are so disappointed in Home Grill now. We have always gone in and been waited on by Nathan and had such a wonderful experience. This last time though the food was mediocre, the service was slow and the staff was cold. When we inquired about Nathan we were told he was no longer working there. How very sad for their establishment as he was the best they had. I doubt we will be returning again. read more

Onion rings were way over cooked , pickles were great. Main course had ribeye, med/rare. Cooked just right , wonder though. Why a 12oz. steak so thin?
