Pinto Thai is by far the best Thai restaurant in the Birmingham area in my opinion. I have dined at every Thai restaurant in the Birmingham area and none of the other Thai restaurants even come close to as delicious as Pinto Thai. I have dined in there several times and also had take out several times and it's always delicious. I've never been disappointed. Everything is fresh and cook to order. Everything from the authentic Thai food to the succulent sushi. I always order the coconut soup with either shrimp or chicken. I also always order the pinto bombers. It's kinda in a hole in the wall location beside Little Caesar's in Chelsea on Highway 280. If you haven't had a chance to try them out please do. You will definitely enjoy it and be back. I want this place to be good. I want them to be great. I love Thai food! It's a long drive for my wife and I to go to another Thai restaurant so we have every incentive to think positively. Last week four of us went for dinner on a Friday night. We were there more than 10 minutes and never saw a hostess or server. Granted, for this very tiny restaurant they were full with us arriving but... 10 minutes or more and not even water on a warm southern spring night? There is never a good reason for that! We left assuming they were beyond their abilities. So, it's been a week. My wife and I are here again at 8:00 pm; after the rush. There are only two other tables. Another single party has just arrived behind us. He is provided water and his order is taken. My wife and I have still not been approached by a server. There's only one. She can't be more than 14 years old. She wears her emotions on her sleeve and I've NEVER seen her in a good mood. I would say Goth if she would only dress the part. Her favorite thing to say after bringing something to the table is not, "Here you go!", "Enjoy!" or "Your welcome!" but, "No problem." Can you believe that? "No problem." This is obviously a family run operation. Profits matter. I understand that! But you have to provide the basics. They are not doing that with this inept kid running their hospitality. They need to teach her how to cook and get her away from the guests. Bless her heart. The food has finally arrived. So far the tastes are good. I would say, No problem. My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time tonight based on our friends recommendation! It was every bit as good as she said it would be! The food was excellent, the Chef/ Owner came to our table and explained the dishes to us and even recommended a Thai Beer that my husband really enjoyed! The staff was very friendly as well! We will definitely be going back as this just became one of our favorite restaurants!!! When we first moved to Chelsea, we were surprised to see a Thai restaurant near our house. Even more surprising was how good it was! I have never ordered anything at Pinto Thai that I haven't enjoyed, though the Drunken Noodle is definitely my favorite dish. The meals take a long time to arrive, but it's all worth it because the chef makes it all to order with their own family recipes. Our waiter is also very nice and talkative. So slow. The food is usually very good. The people are nice. But it is painfully slow. Even if you order it on the internet and pay in advance the wait is unbearable. I shouldn't have to pay in advance, get there more than 30 min later and still have to wait over 45 min for food. Only two customers eating in the restaurant. One server. I hate giving local restaurants bad reviews but I've given this place one too many chances. I'll start by saying the staff is really nice and clearly tries very hard to make everyone happy. The last time I came here I ordered 2 dishes for pick up. They told me they were very busy and it wouldn't be ready for 45 minutes which was completely fine and I appreciated the warning. I waiting an hour and went to pick up the food, when I got there I was given the bill and paid. Then proceeded to wait another 40 minutes for my food, only to be told that they were out of what I ordered! After I'd waited that long! So they made something else for me but I had already paid so I ended up paying for something I didn't really want and waiting an astronomical amount of time to get it, it was a customer service fail at its finest. I waited a couple of months and decided to give it another try tonight. I ordered the Panang Curry, which is generally excellent, for pick up. It was ready when I got to the restaurant so I was pretty excited! I get home and only half the dish was put in the bag...no rice! Only curry sauce and tofu. So I just paid $13 for something that's frankly mediocre. I thought this place was great the first 2 times I went but after these last experiences, I won't be going back. read more
