Wait to be seated

The flying biscuit Café is never a letdown no matter what part of the country you go to. This experience at this location has always been great and immaculate. The service is always on point and it's a great brunch spot for the family and friends and coworkers. The waitress is always fast and sometimes this gym is not so hidden and everybody knows about it so try to get there early and or wait for a table more so in the morning. This location is a 10 out of 10.

Garden Fresh Veggie Scramble, added a side of "Moon Dusted" Potatoes and Beyond Vegan Sausage

We had first eaten from a location in Atlanta via DoorDash but had yet to try this location out in person. We ate here one fine Sunday morning. It was packed and there was a wait. After being seated, I noticed how colorful and whimsical the decor was. But because it was so crowded, I didn't get a lot of pictures. I ordered the garden veggie scramble with the moon dusted potatoes and a side of beyond sausage. My guy ordered the waffle breakfast. The food was just as delicious as we remembered it to be. The star is always those creamy grits. I'm not sure how they make them, but I wish they would tell me their secret. The biscuits are always light and fluffy, and with the apple butter that comes with it, it's a match made in heaven. Pro Tip: I've ordered food from here courtesy of DoorDash but it's always been a disaster. The order was always missing random items or I received the wrong order. I do not recommend ordering through a 3rd party; go in person if at all possible.

Shae was our waitress and she was outstanding! She made us feel welcomed, and she was attentive. Shae is a huge asset to this location. Our food came in a timely manner, was as ordered, and was great! The chicken sausage gravy and biscuit were perfect. Bacon was fried crispy, just the way we like it. Their creamy dreamy grits were on point.

Outdoor seating, service is fast and the food is delicious! Everything is flying with the restaurant decor and makes it so fun. We had the make your own grits bowl and it was fantastic!! I had shrimp, white cheddar, spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It was delicious and full of flavor, very pleasing to the palate. The chicken chorizo tacos were the perfect size and hearty. They too had great flavor and you top it off with some of the yummy potatoes. We will be back to this great spit!

Mini Shrimp & Grits with eggs, a biscuit, and a pineapple mimosa

The Flying Biscuit is always a hit! Visited on a Saturday so I knew they would be busy, but lucked up since there were available seats at the bar. I was immediately greeted by the nice bartenders and decided to order the mini shrimp and grits, which came with a biscuit and I added a side of scrambled eggs. The dish was very delicious! The grits were super creamy and tasty. The spicy sauce with diced tomatoes really 'made' this dish and added an extra layer of flavor. The blackened shrimp was like a 'cherry on top.' The scrambled eggs were delicious as well. All in all, another great visit to the Flying Biscuit Cafe!!

Never knew this place existed until a friend invited me for lunch. I have been to the Shops in the Colonnade a few times, but if you're not in the same "section", you would miss them and that's exactly what happened to me. I've always been on the "Edgars" side and I never "saw" them. Started in 1993 in Georgia, now they have 34 franchised locations throughout Georgia, North Carolina, Florida and Texas. I love the look of the FBC. The painted murals on their wall (featuring Birmingham) is stunning and eye-catching! Applause for the creator! I'm not sure if they have seating outside, but inside there's roomy seating with high ceilings and ceiling fans. Open for breakfast and late lunch, we were seated quickly and drink orders taken. With their extensive menu selection, they could easily open for dinner in my opinion. Don't let them fool you into thinking they're just a breakfast place. In addition to their awesome "breakfast" items, they also have plenty of lunch items like chicken tender concoctions and burger specials. You gotta go online or look at my pics of their menu to see just how many different delicious options to choose from. I finally decided on the Dirty Bird. The large home made waffle was cooked perfectly. On top of it were crispy buttermilk fried chicken tenders. On top of those were two over medium eggs and on top of them was a slather of their famous chicken sausage gravy. Yom Yom Yom Yom! I couldn't finish it and gladly took the rest home. The tenders were juicy. The little bit of yolk was just enough to compliment that delicious chicken sausage gravy! Outstanding! Service was also great with my water glass never being empty. I will be returning to try one of their other 30 plus items on their menu!

Swung by for a quick breakfast. Shelby had very good customer service. Plenty of seating and food was pretty good. I ordered the dirty bird. The gravy was very good and I couldn't tell if the tenders were freshly made or frozen. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Everything came together.

What a good brunch! We tried this place, as we are passing through and knew we are getting one. Hubs had a smoked salmon scrambler with a dill cream cheese, and a side of potatoes. He added a biscuit with cranberry apple butter and hollandaise on the side. One negative the hollandaise was not good. Had he ordered the Benedict I would have had a different rating. As it is an add on, we are writing it off. The hot dirty bird chicken and waffles hit. I did ask for the hot sauce to be ok the side so I could control how hot, and the egg, I was skeptical about chicken sausage gravy, so I sampled it before. Wow. It is the best chicken sausage gravy I have ever had. I almost ordered differently because of the past ones I have had before. The building decor is great. Our server, Jacquie was phenomenal. If we had a restraint nearby we would offer her more money to leave and join our establishment. Good meal.

Omelet and a great biscuit

Great food, best ambiance and service! Loved the omelet and wife had the oatmeal. Coffee was great. Atmosphere was killer good. People very friendly. Prices a little high compared to Edgars around the corner.

BREAKFAST BISCUIT SPECIAL!
Julie C.

The Biscuit Breakfast Special for 5.00, was absolutely delicious. The bacon, was nice and crispy, the eggs was cooked to perfection and the biscuit, was awesome so, soft and fluffy. My server, he was amazing, nice personality, very attentive to his job. The restaurant was half full inside as well as people sitting outside enjoying their meals as well. The parking lot, pretty much full, but I was able to obtain a good parking spot

Service at the bar was good considering every seat at the bar was taken. We ordered our food and it was out within 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken, but subbed the sides for the whole fried okra and Gouda grits. When I say those grits and okra hit.....somebody in that kitchen knows what they're doing! The chicken breasts were juicy and flavorful. The spice level was typical for Nashville hot chicken, which I sometimes I can't take. But I loved the flavor so much I couldn't stop eating it. I will eat here again when I return to the city!

It had a good energy right away. I had been looking at a few things on the menu and was really going back and forth. I was interested in the hot chicken, the Brussels sprouts, and also the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. They told me both were really good, and I ended up going with the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It was very good. Picture below. Between the crowded room, the good service, and the food, this was a very strong experience all the way around. I am giving The Southern Kitchen & Bar 5 stars.

It's kind of hard to tell what all the food options are, so I had to ask what some stuff was. I managed to get a meat and 2 instead of a meat and 5! There were quite a few veggie options that looked amazingly delicious! I do not recommend coming here hungry or hangry. Ok, sooo I love meat loaf so naturally that's what I got. I also got collards and cornbread dressing & yes they had cranberry sauce. Everything was good tasting. The meatloaf was a little sweet to my taste so I probably wouldn't order it again. The veggies were not over seasoned or overcooked. I will definitely comeback here bc there is still just so much I wanna try. The staff is nice and took care of the crowd. I even witnessed them give a person in need food, as they were about to dig in the restaurant's garbage can outside for scraps. Made me count my blessings.. all of them! There is street parking only. I didn't have any issues parking on a Sunday afternoon. The inside of this restaurant is not big but I was comfortable dining in.

A la cart is available as well. They have ice tea or lemonade drinks in a cup that they also serve you. Lemonade was good. There's a very small counter to pay after you order. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

Harvest was one of the best dining experiences I had in Birmingham. One thing worth mentioning…read moreright away is that it's located inside the historic Redmont Hotel. That wasn't immediately obvious from many of the reviews I read beforehand, so don't let the hotel location deter you--this is a destination restaurant in its own right. I ordered the braised short rib (without the grits), and it was outstanding. The meat was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection. It easily ranks among the better short rib dishes I've had. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of being available without hovering. The dining room has an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere that makes it just as suitable for a business dinner as it is for a date night or special occasion. If you're visiting downtown Birmingham--or staying at the Redmont--don't overlook Harvest just because it's inside a hotel. I have had this bookmarked forever. Not sure how or why I did, but I sure am glad that I did!!…read more It's an old school hole in the wall kind of place. These are my favorite kind of places in the world. From the moment I walked up and saw the big piles of wood outside I knew I was probably going to like this place. We had an amazing meal here. Every single bite was good. I ate myself damn near sick! I cannot wait to come back!! The day we were there the bartender was waiting on the whole place himself with just someone helping him run food and clear tables. We only had an hour before we had to be at an appointment, so when we sat down at the bar I got concerned that we would not have time to eat here. He was busy. He seemed behind. Thank goodness I was wrong. Once he finally got to us we were decided on our meals. He took our order on his little handheld register thing, grabbed our tasty beverages, and poof, off he went. C had the pulled chicken sandwich with deviled eggs and I had pulled pork, smoked chicken thighs, beans, and a giant pile of pork rinds. Holy shit it was good!!! I didn't pay attention to the fact that my thighs had AL white sauce on them until well after I had ordered. Had I know that, I would not have ordered them. I despise all things that have anything to do with mayonnaise. But.... Had I known, I would have never known. I fucking loved it! I could have eaten 10 of them. There were hands down the best smoked chicken that I have ever had. The pork was bad ass too! I dare say perfect. Beans were great, and the pork rinds side was massive and still warm from the fryer with a killer seasoning on them. There are not enough adjectives to describe this food. I am in love. I ordered the fish tacos with black beans and chose the cheese grits as my second side. Everything tasted fresh and had lots of flavor. The real star of the meal, though, was the sweet potato cake. It was incredibly moist and delicious. Honestly, I could've eaten four of them without shame or hesitation. My colleagues ordered burgers and fries. They both really enjoyed their burgers, but neither cared much for the fries. They had also requested a couple additional items after the food arrived, but those items never made it to the table. The decor is bright and fun, though it didn't quite seem to match the style of food being served. Just my personal observation. They also have a robot that helps deliver the food alongside the servers, which felt a little unexpected for the casual atmosphere and southern comfort food vibe. They were fairly busy since it was lunchtime on a Friday, but the wait really wasn't bad at all. Would I go back? Yes. Was it my absolute favorite? No. But there were definitely things I enjoyed, especially that sweet potato cake that nearly made me consider ordering dessert first next time.

We arrived fairly early, shortly after opening, but the place was already bustling and the hot bar was full of yummy-looking and smelling food. It has a pleasant, sort of old-timey feel, which makes sense given it's been open since the 70s. This is a "Greek and three," fairly common in Bham, so they offer country cooking favorites like fried chicken in addition to Greek foods like souvlaki. You order as you move through the line in front of the hot bar. The food is protected from guests by glass so it doesn't feel as icky as a buffet does (to me, at least). The folks working the hot bar were pleasant and working diligently. There was one waitress who was suuuuper bossy and a little short with me (she really didn't want me to stand still and look at a paper menu, apparently), but she eventually warmed to us after my dad chatted her up while she was getting our drinks. I ordered fried chicken with yams and fried okra. My mom also got fried chicken, hers with mashed potatoes and cabbage. My dad tried the baked Greek chicken with green beans and macaroni and cheese. I snagged a roll and a sweet tea to drink. The tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. The food was overwhelmingly quite solid. My fried chicken breast wasn't ready when I ordered it so I had to wait a while for it to be prepared, but on the bright side it arrived piping hot and super crispy. It was great fried chicken, clearly brined and flavorful throughout, not just on the crunchy batter. The yams were nicely spiced and not overly soft. The fried okra was a delight as well, crispy and plentiful. The roll was average, but nbd. My parents were also quite happy with their meals. My mom RAVED about the cabbage and ate all her mashed potatoes and gravy. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding (I wish I'd gotten three sides and it been my third). The Greek chicken was succulent and light. The only so-so item was the green beans, and even those were decent. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Birmingham! One of the better meat and twos/threes I've had in a while.
