With so many great places to get Peruvian food in CT, it's only right that we went to check out one of the longest running Peruvian restaurants in CT and the oldest in Hartford! This authentic spot is serving delicious food! Loved the rotisserie chicken, Peruvian style fried rice, and Lomo Saltado. The food came out quickly, and the restaurant maintains tradition well. Everyone was so friendly, and the dining room was decorated nicely. Such a great spot to know about!

**Please Note: this is only for the FOOD as we ended up getting Delivery and did not go to the restaurant** So we decided on takeout/delivery Friday night when we were in Hartford. It was the day after we had a comedy of errors when traveling and we just wanted to stay in. Scrolling through the options we came upon Piolin. After going through the menu we decided why not? Ended up ordering the Pollo a la Brasa (half a rotisserie chicken), the Mixtura Piolin (rib-bye, pork, chicken, shrimp and sausage), and the Ceviche Piolin (fish, shrimp, mussels, and calamari). This was more than enough food for the 3 of us and it hit the spot perfectly. The Ceviche was delicious, and honestly maybe we should have had 2 orders it was so good and full of flavor. The pollo was very moist and flavorful. And the mixtura...delicious. The extra sauce that came with the food for dipping was soo good. I can't even begin to describe it, some kind of curry adjacent flavor I think. Overall, we wished we had gone into the restaurant, but it hit the spot for a group of travel weary hermits on a Friday night in Hartford.

They let me down. They mysteriously to forget to give me an eating utensils. Maybe a dog would have thought to give me an eating utensil.

Piolin on New Britain Ave in Hartford may not be the first place where I ate Peruvian food, but it's the first Peruvian restaurant that captured my attention. When the individual dining habits of a single person make way for the collective dining interests of a family, sometimes you don't visit certain places that you love as often as you want. That's unfortunately been the case with Piolin, but it felt good to be back. I have always loved Piolin's House Chaufa. If you like Chinese style fried rice, you're going to love Piolin's Chaufa. It's similar, but far more jam-packed with stuff. The House Chaufa has shrimp, calamari, shelled mussels, beef, chicken, egg and some veggies. You could go other ways with ingredients. All beef. All seafood. All chicken. But I like the variety. The rice arrived as a giant, neat mound. The rice had great flavor and texture. With the exception of the calamari, which is chewy by nature, the seafood, meat and poultry were all tender and tasty. I could go on and on about the accompanying "aji" sauce (aka the Green Sauce) and how it's zingy, garlicky, herby, mild heat makes it one of the best condiments in any cuisine. But I've done that in other reviews and I don't want to repeat myself. It's glorious! Piolin's Chaufa is so good, that it doesn't need the aji. Who's going to turn down aji though? It's the type of thing that gets you on a "No Fly" list. I can't emphasize how much of everything there was. Look at my pics, you can see the shrimp, calamari, chicken and egg busting out of the mound. After you look at the full mound pic, look at my leftover container. I may have three meals left and the ratio of seafood, chicken and beef to rice is still very strong. Service was welcoming and efficient. The restaurant is nice inside. The parking situation can be rough. However, if you're like me, I never let that get in the way of great food. I want to mention that there have been and may still be other area restaurants with the name Piolin. I've always assumed that they're related, but don't know. I do know that the New Britain Ave. Piolin has always been my favorite. If you've enjoyed Peruvian food at other area places, you're not alone. I have too. But in my experience, this Piolin is the best of them. Even the bread is really fresh and good. Five Stars

Can't say anything bad about this restaurant. They have been holding me down for decades. Large, savory portions. One meal is enough for two to share. Two thumbs up.

WoW. What a pleasant surprise! While it may not seem impressive on the outside, the inside of this Peruvian restaurant is filled with friendly staff and generous servings of amazing food!! I can see why it's a popular lunch spot for people who work in the area. (My DIL highly recommends the onion salad.) I can't pronounce the name of the soup I ordered, but it was green -- lol -- had beef and noodles -- and was a huge bowl of deliciousness!! It's something like beef with noodles. It was so amazing that before I even finished my meal, I placed another 2 orders to go! The other people in my group loved their meals also. Don't miss out on this gem!!!

I haven't been here in a long long time and I kinda regretted it. But me and my friends decided to come back and reminisce how good the food are in this place.. I have never eaten in such an authentic Peruvian food in my life. After such a long absence in my palate, I'm so glad I came back and brought some friends with me. Highly recommended.

I ordered the platter with two fish tacos, my wife had the California burrito. So good! The waitstaff could not be more friendly and they check in with you just the right amount of time. Casona offered a great deal that I couldn't pass up. So we stopped in here before heading to The Funny Bone to continue the evening's festivities. Appearance/Atmosphere: I just LOVE a business with their own parking lot. Lol. It just eliminates the hassle of trying to find a place to put your car while you shop, eat, have fun, whatever. There wasn't much to the outside, but there were quite a few surprises inside. This place is a restaurant, but it's more-so dedicated to dancing, like a night club. There were 3-4 HUGE, wide-open rooms with wooden floors that are setup for you to dance. You walk in from the parking lot right into the beautiful, colorful bar that has a stage setup for live music. If you continue through you walk into the "Hip-Hop" room where that type of music is played. (Later in the evening of course.) To your left is the "Salsa" room! We were there around 5:15pm so there wasn't much going on in them and we were some of the only customers there. Service: The bartender was our server as well so she was fairly busy taking care of the bar rail, but was very attentive to us sitting at a high top. I wish I remembered her name, but she was very sweet, funny and got us everything that we needed. Food: So the Groupon is for 2 tapas and 2 cocktails. I had a Long Island Iced Tea with seltzer instead of Coca-Cola and sour mix. Cutting the carbs where I can. Lol. My lady had a Grey Goose Lemon Drop. Delicious drinks. I'd expect nothing less from a place that's supposed to be a club. For my first tapa I went with their Ceviche Trilogia which is a taste of 3 kinds of their ceviche, each made with a special yellow pepper sauce, rocoto and virgin. It was SO GOOD, lime-y, citrus-y, fresh and the portion was much larger than I had expected. I thought a tapa was a fairly small plate, I was pleasantly surprised. My 2nd tapa was the Picada which were bite-size portions of beef, pork, chorizo, chicken, potatoes and yucca. So savory, succulent and filling! It was huge, definitely not what I think of when I hear "tapa"! Lol. I'd love to try the rest of their menu out. I'm not really into clubbing so much anymore. I mean, I'll dance if Tiffany wants to, but I'd come here for the food! Value: The Groupon was $29.00 (before the extra 20% off I got) that included 2 tapas of any kind and 2 drinks of any kind. Shoot, 2 drinks in a club can easily run you $30.00 alone so that made this deal even sweeter. I don't know what the drinks would've been without the Groupon, but I do know my Ceviche Trilogia would've been $12.99 and my Picada would've been $11.99. The Groupon basically pays for itself before we even get to the drinks... almost. Lol. Aside from that I'd totally pay regular prices for the food that I had. It was absolutely worth it. In conclusion, I like the way this place was setup. Restaurant by day, party palace by night. What more could you want? Brunch, but nobody's perfect. Lol. I'd love to come back here to try some of their entrees and definitely check out the night life!
