I love a good story and great food. This place has both Went to hartford to try out a new place that was having a soft open. They didn't open, so the girlfriend and I needed to pull an audible. Went to the highest rated location near us, and found this place. First thing, this place is a night club. It's layout, the decor, the wait staff, the music playing, the metal detector in the front, and the dj stand. Everything about this place screams modern night club trying to get through covid. Thing is, this is a place that's making lemonade out of lemons. The staff are extremely friendly, the food service took a while but they kept the bread stocked. The breads this dense but soft inside. Kind of like a soft pretzel without the salt. When the food does come, it's awesome! Everything brought the flavor, nothing was under seasoned and the portions were large. Tacos were stacked with perfectly braised beef with ample toppings which all had a distinct and pronounced flavor. The chiveche was piled high with a limey, salty, savory bite. The fish was fresh, and the fried octopus was perfectly crisp and tender. The crepe was well executed, but it was kind of general. Bananas and Nutella, not much to say. I would've liked the bananas warmer, maybe a little burlee of sugar on the top of each to give it a sweet crisp? It was tasty, I just wanted a little more. Price was a little high, but the food coming out from the kitchen along with the portion makes it worth it. It does take a while, so be prepared for a wait. But now I can say that I had brunch at the night club, and that's a pretty awesome memory. I am trying Lucuma drink for the first time. Seems like Lucuma is a fruit common in Peru. Lucuma drink tasted like caramel. I loved it. Their chicha morada is also very flavorful. I went for a chaufa aeropuerto with beef. Seems like this is the favorite entree here. It was a combination of fried rice and chifa noodles. Fried plantains were nice and went well with the entree. Came here for dinner to celebrate my cousin's birthday. They have their own parking lot next to the spot. Arrived around 915 PM on a Saturday night and security checked my small purse. Walked in the spot, bar to the left and walked upstairs and sat down at our two reserved tables. They were playing Spanish, Puerto Rican, R&B, and Hip Hop music. Our group was having a good time chatting, taking pictures, and vibing to the music. When we recieved our cocktails, they did not match the size that was represented in the menu. The menu cocktails looked twice the size than what we recieved. The waiter said, " the place turns into a night club after 10 PM, and so the drinks are smaller in size". The time was 9:48 PM. Even when we told him that, "He said its close to that time". We still should have recieved the cocktails at the size represented until 10 PM. We ordered our food. Took about 20 minutes to recieve our food. Not bad. I ordered the grilled chicken with rice, house salad, and sweet plantains. The food was decent, which I would rate a 3.5 out of 5. The grilled chicken came out on a grill plate but needed more flavor, added some sauce that they served with our bread at the table. It tasted better mixed with the rice. My house salad came with no dressing, I could've asked for some but it was okay, no big deal. The rice was fresh and sweet plantains were good. More people were coming in to the spot, music was good, and they offer hookah. Security walks throughout the spot and are also at the entry. It was 11 PM, a waitress came to me and said, " We starting to offer bottle service, and that the reservation was only for the roundtable" We were sitting at two tables because we had a decent party size, both reserved. She said that we could pack up our food and come back to the roundtable if we wanted to stay. The place did have more people coming in and I guess they were trying to find space for them. She really brought down the vibe for our group. We decided to box our food and leave. I had high hopes for a great experience but we won't be coming back here. The service was very subpar, hence the tip they recieved. This is a place for a chill out spot with your friends at best and the transition from restaurant to nightclub is very unorganized. It was fun as far as music goes but a complete rip-off. I paid to reserve a VIP. Then when I got there I still had to pay a cover charge, after that, I had to pay the remainder which I got but it felt like the price kept changing. Downstairs people could not move AT ALL. A complete safety hazard if something had gone down people would be trampled. I felt suffocated, and couldn't be there for more than two minutes. Overall I will not be going back it left a bad taste in my mouth. The best thing is the music but you can get that at better places. read more

Everyone says this is a good place for a turn up and I've personally gone there a few times myself and enjoyed it. However my experience with reserving VIP for my moms birthday...was the worst decision ever. I paid for the birthday special and there was nothing special about it. Horrible customer service. Didn't get my VIP bottle for 2hrs after showing up. Table next to my section spilled champagne all over my guest and soaked the entire floor, and when we requested for a clean up we were ignored and had to ask multiple people. In the end, we were only provided 5 SMALL towels to clean up the mess ourselves. Having paid for the birthday package, I wasn't even provided the correct birthday cake (just a small piece of tres leches cake) nor did I receive the confetti that was supposed to be included in the package. worst night ever when to get food and it took an 1:30 half hour later my churrasco wasn't well done took another 10 min to get a waiter. This was our first time visiting and the menu had a lot to choose from. Martine, one of the owners was extremely friendly and helpful explaining their ceviche options. He made a great suggestion and I must say we weren't disappointed. Cocktails and dinner were fantastic as well. Staff was friendly and helpful, service was excellent. So we went for my friend's birthday, got had paid for VIP so we thought we were all set. WELL we really wasn't. First $10 cover charge for everyone including the birthday girl, $30-35 for hookah which the girl told me it is an extra $5 charge when you pay with card (I'll come back to this issue in a moment), and when the night was over my girl, the birthday girl, had to pay like $500 at the end of the night. What did she pay for when pre-paying for VIP you ask? Well they told her she is getting a table, a bottle, and a cake. We had two casamigo tequila bottles a bunch of little pineapple juice cans and I am pretty sure she paid for both bottles at the end of the night. We never got the cake, the girl told us they didn't have it so she brought out two bottles of champagne. She even told us that they were unorganized haha. So I don't know what in the world the VIP price included. But let me get back to that $5 additional charge for using card... I went to get a bottle of water and it was $2 !! No additional charge so what was she talking about. I don't know if I will return for a club night the space is crazy small and overall just a bit unorganized for me. This was my 3rd time to the Flaming Llama the first time was a delight so I visited again not happy the 3rd time came in and ordered appetizers and our food we did not get our appetizers until 45 minutes later the waitress came and asked what we ordered she apologized... My spouse ordered soup that when he got it was cold he asked if it could be put in the microwave the waitress came brought it back. Still cold. I ordered huancaina spaghettini was so bland, the soup was too. Salchichas tasted like they were very cheap. Chicken tasted ok. The causa was plated nicely and was the only thing that tasted ok. They should teach the waiters and waitress to be more attentive and engaging and please put a glass of water when people sit down or offer it. read more

This rating is long overdue! I live in Florida and when I go to CT I make sure I come here. I had the pleasure to go there when it first opened and have always been pleased. The food is amazing and the owner is extremely attentive to his customers. Reading the 2 star rating, I truly hope that he ensures his service team is coached accordingly as the cuisine is way too good to allow his restaurant to be ranked a 2.
