I am so glad to have Máncora restaurant in the Hartford area. I frequently opt for Peruvian food when traveling to other cities, partially because we don't have that many options in CT. Mancora is a wonderful combination of food and atmosphere!! The menu is large, so it was tough to decide what to order. We were more than happy with the cocktails and dishes we chose. We ordered the whole fried snapper served with seafood and pepper sauce. It was so flavorful. We also got the linguine with beef (prepared Lomo Saltado style) and yellow pepper sauce. The beef was tender and the pasta was Al dente. It was sooo good! We also ordered "summer in Connecticut" cocktails that were made with gin and pink. They were refreshing and generously sized. We saw plenty of other dishes that looked great, including the chaufa and jaleo. We will be going back soon!! It's a great restaurant for a date or a night out with friends. The service was friendly. While it was good, it wasn't the best I've had. For $38 I wish the portion would be a little bigger. I came here for happy hour also and got 2 drinks, the drinks were pretty good! $8 each. The food options on the happy hour seemed ok but nothing caught my eye. The other dish was a trio sampler with the fried rice, calamari and cerviche. Pretty decent. Flawless experience here. It was our anniversary so they gave us a dessert with a candle on it. The inside looks fancy and the lighting gives it a great ambiance. My favorite items would have to be the ribeye and plantains. Everything was cooked to perfection and the green sauce that came with it was perfect for all the foods. Date night comes around and we roll the dice on someplace we've never tried before. First off, Mancora is gorgeous! If you're looking to get some good photos in, this is a good pick. We are quickly seated (which is why Monday nights are the best date nights!) and our server places canchita (Peruvian "popcorn") with a tasty sauce. We find out later from the server instructing the couple in the next table that people just dump the sauce in, while I wasted my time dipping individual kernels. It never hurts to ask! My wife orders the Rib Eye a lo Pobre (rib eye served with white rice, fried egg, French fries and plantains. Definitely carb heavy, but I helped her out! I ordered the Mancora Tower - on top was the jalea, which was a mix of fried seafood topped with red onions, and below is a nice bowl of ceviche, lined with 3 mussels topped with more ceviche toppings. It also came with two shots of tiger milk, which I had a taste of, and again it was more of the same acid/sour taste. My only regret is that I ordered fried calamari as an app (which was delicious, but my entree already had plenty of fried deliciousness). While the meal was fantastic, I wouldn't get this entree again as it's very acid forward. For dessert, we split the Choco Lucuma - I can't even begin to describe the flavor nor point at a lucuma in a line up, but it is good. I loved the interesting texture, which was like a firm cheesecake. If you're looking to be adventurous, definitely give Mancora a look! read more

The service was top-notch--one server was really running the show, and even with about four tables to manage, she was super attentive and incredibly friendly. The food was just spectacular. Máncora is a Peruvian restaurant that is located on the Wethersfield line of Hartford. I don't know about you, but as soon as I hear "Peru" or "Peruvian" I don't think of the adorable and very fluffy llamas, I immediately think of Ceviche! I love ceviche, but I very rarely have it. When we arrived at Máncora we were the first ones. It is pretty fancy inside. It is super clean, modern, fresh and new looking. Our waiter was very patient and knowledgeable about all the ins and outs of the menu. You didn't have to ask me twice, I knew what I was getting long before I saw the menu. But first, we got served cancha, crunchy deep fried corn. We decided to share Ceviche De Pescado and the Quinoa Salad. The ceviche was so light and refreshing. It was very acidic and lemony, with a substantial amount of tilapia, corn, cancha and sweet potatoes. The Quinoa Salad was also very light and refreshing, with a generous serving of avocado, tomato, greens and of course Quinoa. It was very fresh and colorful! From the moment we stepped in, the emptiness of the restaurant was almost eerie. We waited, the clock hands moving slowly, until we were finally seated next to the busy wait staff. The elegance we expected was overshadowed by this awkward placement. As happy hour rolled in, we ordered, only to find ourselves caught in a tangle of extra charges. The promise of fried rice turned into a $15 upcharge, and when we asked for simple white rice, the mistake continued. Fries arrived instead, and even after explaining our allergy, we faced another upcharge to fix the order. The final straw came when we asked for our meal to go. Instead of a proper container, our food was packed in styrofoam, making it impossible to reheat on the road. I wss in town on a business trip and decided to give this place a try since the reviews were so good. I decided to sit at the bar. The ambience is so esthetically pleasing. At the entrance and throughout the restaurant there are places to take photos. I started with their signature drink the Mancora sour. It was delicious and had just the right amount of alcohol. For dinner I had the Mancora tower. Bottom plate of the tower is cold which included ceviche and mussels and the top plate included fried yucca, and fried seafood. This restaurant is the first elegant Peruvian restaurant in the Hartford area! They definitely took their time decorating every space here. I was surprisingly impressed with the quality of the food, very tasty, fresh and delicious! It was 8 of us we went around 5pm without reservation on a Wednesday and they gave us a private room that looked like a house dining room, absolutely beautiful and separated from the rest of the restaurant we loved it!
