In March 2023, I brought my Lexus RX 350 to this shop for a transmission fluid service. The technician noted the presence of metal shavings in the pan on the invoice, and instead of following OEM specifications and using Toyota WS-compatible fluid, the shop installed Kendall VersaTrans CVT+. I later reviewed the product specifications and contacted Kendall's own technical support team directly. Their team confirmed that while VersaTrans CVT+ may be used where Toyota WS is specified, their *recommended* product for WS applications is Kendall VersaTrans LV ATF, not CVT+. Their data sheet confirms this. When I brought this to the shop's attention, attaching official data sheets, Kendall's response email, and compatibility concerns, they refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. Their responses were consistently short, dismissive, and unprofessional. I received multiple replies with no greeting, no name, and no attempt to address the core issue. Instead of discussing solutions (which I offered several times, including a fluid replacement or partial refund), they repeatedly deflected and eventually stopped engaging altogether. Despite the shop stating in their own records that metal shavings were present, a clear indication of wear, they opted to use a non-recommended fluid. Over the next 2.5 years, the vehicle accumulated only ~9,200 miles, but the transmission continued to degrade, likely accelerated by the mismatch in fluid. This review is not based on emotion. I've provided documentation, OEM specifications, and direct confirmation from the fluid manufacturer. The shop's refusal to admit a mistake or even engage in a basic conversation about resolution speaks volumes about their customer service standards and technical judgment. I cannot recommend this shop to anyone seeking careful, OEM-spec service or professional accountability. If something goes wrong, don't expect them to help, or even call you by name. read more

While traveling through the area our car unexpectedly appeared to break down--the closest shop was Pioneer Automotive. The friendly staff fit our car into their packed schedule and quickly diagnosed there was no issue--no charge and they still offered a free car wash. While there, we elected to have some other repairs done. They quickly sourced the parts and had it repaired for a fair price just after parts received. My sister and I were traveling in my car and had a maintenance light and red warning triangle come on. We were worried and AutoZone referred us to Pioneer. At Pioneer, Tucker talked to us and then got Eddie to come check our car out. I told Eddie I'd just had the car serviced a month ago because I knew we would be traveling. He checked my car out and found no problem and the light probably came on because the car had just gone over 100K miles. Anyway, I really appreciate how nice both Tucker and Eddie were and how quickly they reassured us we would be okay for finish out trip. My car has had something wrong with it for almost 2 months. In keeping with my warranty, I took it to Burlington Kia. They not only didn't solve the issue, KIa told me nothing was wrong with it. My sister recommended Pioneer Automotive. Pioneer found out what was wrong with it in 30 minutes. They said I needed a Crankshaft Position Sensor, and they would get right on ordering it. I was also instructed that I would be ok to drive it the few blocks back to me house and back when they had the part. They called me at few hours later and said they have the part and could fix it that day. I went back and had a fixed car in 35 minutes! This is now my all things auto place to go. Had my recovered stolen vehicle sent here after weeks of other shops on and off island tell me they were too busy to help out. One of my coworkers suggested Pioneer while I was explaining that my recovered vehicle was awaiting an estimate and I was growing frustrated with the process. I called Pioneer and Emily told me to go ahead and tow it that day to their shop for an estimate. It was picked up the same day and I called to confirm it was there. From there Emily was amazing in keeping me posted. She called and emailed me on the regular with any updates. She also grew frustrated with me because USAA seemed to drag their feet with this process in the supplement estimate and sending an adjuster out. Finally USAA totaled out vehicle after being at PAS since late January due to the low estimate they (USAA) initially gave me- pioneer auto found a lot of work that needed to be done after the crackhead that stole my Jeep was busted inside the vehicle a few weeks after it was reported stolen. Anyhow ----I just want to say thank you to the shop and Emily for her awesome service, help, patience, and communication during the period. Highly recommend. read more

I brought our 2009 Honda Odyssey in for an oil change. I had a specific synthetic oil and filter I wanted to use and they were happy to use what I supplied. Total charge for labor including taxes was only $28.26 and they checked my filters and other fluids at the same time. They even washed our car! Their friendly customer service is a nice bonus. My truck developed a small gas leak and was in need of repair. I'd taken it to Oak Harbor Motors, a local repair service, for years but had just received the worst customer service ever from them. After a week of my vehicle sitting in their yard (they never even looked at it) I got zero service and some the worst rudeness I've ever encountered. So I called Pioneer Automotive to see if they could take a look a my vehicle. Doug answered the phone and from the very start was the epitome of stellar customer service. He was friendly, informative and made me feel valued by listening to my concerns. They told me to bring my truck in and they would look at it that day. They thoroughly inspected my truck and ran numerous tests on it to isolate the problem, and during that time they gave me follow up calls on the progress. It was done in no time, and the charge for service was well below what I'd expected. I called to see if they could secure my window back up after I determined the problem was electrical and had no time to get into it before I left for vacation. I was very clear with the receptionist that I did not want to window fixed, just secured up. He said it was OK. When they called me with a quote to fix it, I told him again, I did not want it fixed, only secured. He said fixed 320, secured 108. OK just secured, as we discussed. I get there and my window was not secured, and the mechanic said it was a troubleshooting labor charge. I do not know how many times I made it clear I was only bringing my car there to secure the window and not fix. Of course the receptionist did not explain his part. Now I have to wake up at 5am, after working night shift to fix WHAT I ALREADY KNEW WAS BROKEN before my trip. Beyond annoyed with them. read more

Honesty in the car repair business! Needed a car I plan on driving to California checked out to be sure there were no issues that could cause problems on the trip. Pioneer did a thorough examination and reported no issues other than the need for a new battery - which wasn't surprising, the car had sat for months and needed a junk just the drive it to the shop. They were professional every step of the way, explained everything, and did things in the time frame they promised. In the car repair profession there are occasional bad actors who would totally take advantage of me in this situation and recommend all types of costly unnecessary repairs. Doug - wow, well helped us out in an ASAP situation as we were traveling from Portland and our car started chugging and not wanting to start? Lord - it could have been anything! He took time to chat with us for about 10 minutes, so swell and said we could bring it back the next day for an appt to have his key mechanic take it out for a drive and diagnose. You know how it's scarey sometimes to trust a mechanic? Are they just upselling you, you think? Can you trust them? WELL - Pioneer is not one of those - they are awesome in fact! They found out it was our fuel pump (again... sigh) gave us two prices on different pumps and were just swell all the way around. I'd go to them again in a heartbeat! I had an emergency that needed immediate attention. I was at the Oak Harbor bank and got back to my car and all electric was dead. Nothing! The car is a 1999 Mercedes that gets very little use as a 2nd car. I contacted another local service company and they recommended Pioneer Auto. I walked down to their center and explained my problem. I had replaced my battery about a month ago. Original battery. Anyway, one of their technicians crawled into my trunk from the backseat since the electronic release did not work. Discovered that one of the connectors was loose. Ten seconds later, car power was back! Sure helped me out!!! Will be coming back since they work on older cars, including Mercedes and Land Rovers!!! read more

I've never worked at a place where I felt so on edge. From day one, the owner's "wife" Emily was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. She lied about things, tried to play boss, and in general had no idea what she was doing. I haven't been paid as low as I was at Pioneer since I started in this industry 15 years ago. My wife worked to fill in and help out when the owner and his "wife" were gone for two weeks and wasn't compensated for any of it. I would stay far away from this place and any of their so called "values"... Isaac only cares about himself and will throw anyone under the bus as soon as he's done using them. And to add insult to injury, he decided to find unjust ways to keep my last paycheck when I finally did leave. Don't be fooled by his charm. He's a snake. read more

I took my Chevy Silverado in for a service. There I met Joel, who was very knowledgable. During check-in I mentioned my back door wouldn't lock with the god. After quoting the rate to find the issue or replace the actuator I told him not to bother. When I picked up my vehicle Jole told me he replaced the actuator and the doors now worked fine. I was only charged $15 got that. Additionally, I was surprised that the shop cleaned the inside and outside of my vehicle. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

omg... Doug answered the phone and I explained that my son changed out the spark plugs on his '07 Ford Edge and ended up with misfirings and engine light on. Took it to Autozone who did an OBD reading and all they told him was there was a lot of misfirings. So, Doug looked up the spark plug information for this car and gave me the part number and asked a whole bunch of questions about what type my son used etc. So, after talking with my son, we decided to take it in and have them redo it all with the right plugs. I called back to Doug and asked if the manifold gaskets were changed out too. NOPE they weren't. That most likely is the problem. So, after calling local auto stores for us, he found one at ford in Mt. Vernon. He said it would take an hour to get here and cost $35 for the part. This is my first time doing anything with this company and yep I am a fan. read more

I never actually had service here as it turned out I needed a pipe cut for a new c converter to be installed but when I was scheduling my appointment and looking for help they were nothing but courteous and efficient and finding parts and scheduling me. I have a 2001 Corvette which comes out in the summer only. I have taken it to Pioneer for brakes, an engine repair, and most recently rebuilding the rear differential. This is a difficult car to work on but they have always done a good job and were good to work with. I would not trust many with my Vette, but I trust them. read more

Long story short: they fucked up my brake light trying to make a buck. I came here JUST to have my oil changed when I first moved to the island because I had just driven up from Lemoore, California. The oil change took a little longer than I thought it should and I even had an appointment. But the people were nice and they even washed my car so I thought that was great. They also did some "routine checks" of stuff, and told me my brake light was out. I knew my brake light didn't function as it should, but I also knew that it wasn't that the light was out, it was that there was something wrong with the wiring because my husband checked it before we left to see if there was anything he could do for it. There wasn't and he was going to work the wiring when he had time after moving up here. This car has been in the garage for a little while because of the light and my husband has just finally had time to take a look again. Guess what he found. "Someone" put some silicone gunk on the housing where the bulb sits. My husband KNOWS he didn't do it, and no one else has touched it since. I suggest that perhaps they put it on there as a conductor, and he informed me that what they put on there has the opposite effect. Long story short: they fucked up my brake light trying to make a buck. read more

Poor work, dishonest and shoddy work. I do believe that they took advantage of me based on my out of state plates. We took our truck in to have 2 noises diagnosed, cost $85. We knew the sound from the front was either power steering pump or alternator, high pitched humming. We really needed to know what the sound from the rear was... So dropped off early in the morning and waited and waited some more ( we had an appointment) finally WE call at the end of the day. They told us, it needed a power steering pump and that upon INSPECTION it would need a new transfer case, $1500 and the power steering pump $300. We agree to pump install and they state they cannot get the part til next day. Ok, I called and the pump was in stock at at least 2 local parts stores for around $100. We declined to have the transfer case done at that time. So, next day, waited all day long again and finally we call them, it is done. It it is closer to $600 because we needed a belt. So we pick up vehicle and ask if they checked the fluid in the transfer case and we were told yes it was checked. Get in vehicle and the whining from the front is worse than when we took it there!! Went in and they said oh well it must be the alternator then, lol! What the hell!? I could have guessed and gotten the same result for 600 less! So we get home and climb under the truck to find that there is NO WAY IN HELL. They could have checked the transfer case fluid because, there was a piece of a tool stuck in the casing and when we got into it IT WAS BONE DRY! Wow! After putting fluid in the sound is gone but the whining in the front that they assured me would go away is still there! I may have out of state plates, BUT I plan on living here in OH. Been to pioneer automotive a couple of times and each time had been nothing short of a great experience. 1st visit was for transmission flush, a preventative maintenance yet I had been feeling some tranny slip. They offered either DEXIII, or the newer DEX-XI synthetic, keeping fluid OE. Clean, precise work. There wasn't even a tiny hint of fluid from or under my tranny fittings. Tranny stopped slipping. 2nd visit was for a coolant flush as I had been experiencing some over heating. They offered great advise and tips as to what else I could tackle in my driveway to help cure it. And every time I leave I get a solid handshake, feel confident, not ripped off, smiling, and truck running great. Highly recommend. read more
