I love exploring the city parks available to me. My parents visited with their 1ish yo dog, so we took advantage of a beautiful morning to walk around here. There were a ton of paved and nonpaved walking paths, recreation areas, water features, various sports fields, and a community garden. Bea got to explore it all! Would definitely return either solo or with friends/family (furry members included) read more

There is a lot to do at this park. There is also lighted tennis and pickleball courts which has fee. This place is quite busy at nigh-time. The park has enough parking spots. read more

With two young kids I end up frequenting a lot of parks in the St. Louis area. Each has its own charm. Kirkwood Park is one that I always enjoy visiting. It has a nice mixture of something for everyone. There are courts to play tennis and pickleball that have a fee, but are always pretty busy. There is a decent playground, although it is a bit dated. My favorite feature though is the small lake which just adds to the atmosphere. It is just a great part to take a stroll around, and sit down for a picnic or to read a book while you let the day pass by. read more

This is such a great park for kids! I have a toddler who loves all the options at this park- multiple playgrounds, story walk around the lake, sandbox, space to run, etc! This park really has it all and it's so enjoyable to explore on a nice day. We will definitely be back soon. read more

This park has become one that I frequent often. Parking is super easy and it has never really been too busy to enjoy a nice walk around the trail. I really love how they have a path to follow with pages from a children's book so that as you walk the trail, you can also read a cute book! And the best part? They change the book often so I have been able to read a few different ones over the past few months. I enjoy the benches they have near the pond/lake (not sure what to call it) so that I can enjoy the view and watch the ducks swim around and every now and then I will see a turtle! They also have fish so people can catch and release which I think some people enjoy. There is even a snow cone place in the park (Trop Moose) near the playground area which I found with a friend recently. Overall, this is a large park with great trails, space to run around (for my dog) and a great little playground area for the kiddos. And they keep it clean and well maintained. Oh, and it looks like they even have a fun little water spout area for kids (and adults) to play in during the summer! read more

This park has it all and it's in the middle of one of my favorite communities. The lake and the walking trails are perfect for joggers and dog walkers. The facilities are to notch. Large pavilions. Clean restrooms. Plenty of picnic tables and grills. There are two play areas - one for older children and one for younger children. That was important to me when my kids were little. I've walked the trails and recently attended a 5k that started in the park. It's a large park with all the amenities to accommodate a large event. read more

Great park with something for everyone! We have really only been to/utilized the portions for kids so I'll focus on those areas. There is a 2-5 year old play area, a 6-12 year old play area, and a water feature. There also are indoor bathrooms and a stand with sno-cones and drinks (cash only). It's really nice to have a special area for my 2 year old, especially such a big one. They have a small playground structure with slides, swings for toddlers, a few riding toys, a play wooden house, and a sand area. It's one of the more expansive play areas for this age group that I've seen. They are about to renovate the 6-12 year old area and I'll plan on updating my review when that's complete. The water feature is pretty minimal. Just a tall pipe shooting out water (on a timer, that you just press a button to start up again). But the kids seemed to appreciate it and it kept my daughter busy and giggling for awhile. There are lots of trees (read: shady areas) and benches too. The concession stand is cash only and have reasonably priced snacks and drinks (only a buck for a soda). Draw backs: the sand area was kind of yucky, the bathroom was out of soap, family bathroom down, and I never carry cash so couldn't partake in the concession stand. Those are minor infractions though and some might not be a problem at another visit. Overall a solid park that we will visit again! read more

This review is on Scout Pavilion at Kirkwood Park. A lovely place to host a party other together. So far I have been to one party and hosted one party in this pavilion. Overall, the pavilion is great - so many picnic tables, isolated location set in the woods. The negatives - it is a little hard to find, it is quite a walk back to the pavilion. In the most recent party the nearest women's bathroom was out of order. We were able to use the men's restroom but we didn't receive notice prior to the party that it was closed. Overall, I would recommend for adult parties (no playground nearby). Just remember - no glass bottles allowed! read more

Tis place is neat. We went here on a class field trip. It is very large and you can do whatever you want there. Tehy have large, open fields and a lake for fishing. You can ride bikes and walk your dogs, too. Go here for a picnic one day. It's very lovely. read more

I love Kirkwood Park, I take my puppy on a walk here everyday after work. It's not obnoxiously big and there are always people there, and always a lot of dogs so Fitzgerald can make new friends. Me and my lova come here a lot when it's nice for picnics and to play frisbee. And with all the wind, there are a lot of pretty kites everywhere. It's simple, nice and always has stuff going on. Love it. read more

What a great park! We come here once a year for an organized event and every year this park never disappoints. There is something for everyone, from dog walks, playground, tennis, etc. Kirkwood is a growing city so wouldn't expect anything else in this great city. read more

What a beautiful park! Come here if you're looking to join a softball team, walk your dog, let your niece play on a safe playground (little tykes only!), play some tennis or swim some laps. And that's only a smidge of what's offered. I think I may have seen a sno-cone stand! Whoot! Kirkwood is a great city, so I would expect nothing less of it's parks. read more

I came here last week to watch a softball game and remembered that I had ventured here ages ago to watch fireworks, which were fabulous! The park offers a plethora of tennis courts, baseball fields, volleyball courts and other fun flings for the sports fanatic. They host the annual Green Tree Festival (48th this year) as well, which I will be attending this weekend. Lots of local artists, crafts, food and games. See you there! read more

This park is big... very big. There are lots of open spaces and plenty of mature shade trees. The grounds are not as well maintained as some of the smaller parks. They have areas for smaller kids separate of the playground for bigger kids. read more

History

Established in 1941.

The oldest park in Kirkwood was established in 1941 with the purchase of two 20-acre tracts. Today the park has grown to 92 acres and features the Kirkwood Community Center, the Recreation Station Ice Arena, Aquatic Center, tennis courts, playground, picnic pavilions, open picnic sites, athletic fields, handball courts, horseshoe pits, concession stand and a community garden. Other features include the Lions' Amphitheater and Walker Lake where you can fish to your heart's content.

Even with a clear flow and literally no room for cars traveling in opposite directions... some attempted to push in, causing longer stand stills. It's like trying to go to the zoo/forest park on the weekends. But the park itself is fun!!! I do wish there was more shaded areas within the park itself. Parking needs to be fixed... there is no way an emergency vehicle could have gotten in to help if help was needed. That is a big concern.

We went around 11am and though the high was 84, it wasn't so bad since most of the trail is in the woods. I hadn't been here in a while but it seemed shorter than I remember.
