For my first time at a gun range, I can say that it was an decent experience, literally the only reason why it was decent because Mr. Blue made it as such. I came in for the experience with a good friend of mine from out of town and we were treated with such care from Mr. Blue. He made us feel very comfortable with his level of care for us and moreover his level of knowledge of instruction. However, I was very disappointed in our elder at the front desk to which he did not have a pleasant energy regarding his customer service skills. The elder was very rude, condescending and rigid with his communication to myself and my friend which made the experience horrendous. If it wasn't for Mr. Blue, I wouldn't even consider coming back, therefore I give this feedback about 3 stars. read more

Up-charged !!! I took my two sons (18,16) here for the first time to fire my handgun. I was told that they both cannot use a handgun without a pistol permit but can rent a rifle at 90.00 each. I agreed but mentioned what is posted on their website stating otherwise only to be told that was not true. The website states -Children 16 to 20 years old can shoot pistols with a parent provided that the pistol owner is properly licensed and an NRA certified instructor is present and supervising. Would NOT recommend- EVER. The front desk cust serv guy was SO rude. Everything that he said was in such a condescending & judgmental tone. The instructor accused me of lying about my shooting skills before I began- which I said weren't the best, but not horrible either. He said I was riding the line of honesty. Why would I lie about my abilities when I am coming here for practice ???????? Once I began shooting he said "well you don't need my help." Clearly I was doing a great job! I came there to get comfortable with my new firearm and the entire experience was uncomfortable and a complete let down. I will never go back and never speak good of their business. read more

I had heard good things about this place and was looking forward to trying it. I called ahead to make an appointment, which you do not need; it is first come first served. The street had parking, I'm not sure if they're is a parking lot. Once inside, we were lead to a waiting room and asked what kind of guns we wanted to shoot. We opted for the "basic" level - a .22 shotgun. They provide safety goggles and earphones to protect your hearing. Once in the range, our instructor gave us an overview and instructions. We had to load the magazines ourselves (!) which at first scared me but ultimately I was grateful for the lesson. Our instructor was patient and soft spoken. I appreciated this approach, as shooting can be intimidating. Overall, this was extremely fun and educational! The training session was informative and the customer service was excellent. I highly recommend. Pro Tip: wear a long sleeve shirt because I had on a sleeveless top and the hot shell casings burned my arm. Also, leave big earrings in the car. You will need to take them off when you put the headphones on to protect your hearing. read more

Short sighted administration. Called ahead of time to set reservation for bachelors party of 8, was told none was needed. Show up from manhattan to then be told that we had to wait an hour because they were full (which turned out to be closer to 100min) only to then be told that they could not accommodate our group, so only half us got to shoot. Man, first time at a gun rage. They made me feel comfortable with holding a weapon and informed me of safety precautions. Look before hand for a Groupon special or call a head. I lucked out and got a slot that someone canceled on. The safety class was cut and clear. To the point and instructional. As a beginner without a hand gun license, we were given .22 caliber riffle which I can imagine would be easier than an actual hand gun. 50 rounds of amo, i was on a roll but not for long. I was never a gun person but honey brought me here for our first date a couple years ago and I never thought I would have so much fun - so much that we purchased a second round. I guess my experience stuck with my sister because she purchased me a Groupon to come back this year! I've learned so much and now feel so much more comfortable with and around guns. Pierre was our instructor this time around and he taught us M.R.S. - mag (magazine), rack, safety. Those are the three steps you should remember and follow when getting ready to shoot. We did do a try out with an AR-15 and Pierre was super informative on how to handle this rifle. Great instructor - dude definitely has jokes, which put me at ease with handing the rifles. We bumped into Cesar on our way out and it was nice to see he remembered us and even brought up our last conversation from years ago about gun permits (FYI NYC residents, we will be able to apply shortly)! Even though I've personally only been here twice, I'm considering a membership because that's how much fun I had. read more

I went with a group of 6 and we had a blast! From beginning to end everyone was professional, courteous, and gave us great laughs. We got the deal on Groupon -$98 or so for 2 people for 50 rounds. For an extra $25, they offer to let you shoot a different type of rifle. Everyone there took their job seriously and made sure we were all safe. When I imagine skills I'd like to acquire marksmanship was never amongst them but over the past couple months I've been approaching things from a different perspective. I'd never imagined I'd be in a date a shooting rage of all places. The Mr purchased a Groupon and surprised me. Upon arrival it appeared to be closed because all the shutters were down but we found a door to the side and were happy to discover that even though he hadn't made a reservation (read the fine print) that we could wait and see if anyone cancelled...Which they did. We were a group of 4 couples. Caesar our instructor demonstrated the safety procedures and protocols, got us geared up and we went in. He was very skilled and well learned. I appreciated him taking his time to explain things without making me feel like an idiot. He was humourous and wiling to show you again if something didn't stick the 1st time.It is pretty loud in the actual range and after literally 2 mins I opted to go back out and get the ear plugs. I was as literally jumping every time someone took a shot. So much better with the air plugs. Looking at my target you can tell I got better after that. I was surprised at how much I liked it. Main things to keep in mind: you must wear the ear and eye protective gear at all time. M-magaizine: make sure you put the bullets in and press them with your thumb and they snap in. Once you've packed it. Make sure the number it holds is facing you and place it in the gun and it snaps in. R-rack - pull it back towards you until it clicks S-safety: left side safety on. Right side safety off before you take aim Great experience. Guns are not inherently bad. People with I'll intent with guns are bad. Learning a new skill can never hurt and I'm glad I went to Pioneer for my 1st experience. I will absolutely be back. read more

Friendly shooting range! This is the 2nd range i've been to in the area, and have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I will never return back to the other facility (Blueline Tactical) because of the way they treat and speak to their customers. I was hesitant to try another range after my previous experience at Blueline, but going to Pioneer Shooting was such a better experience - especially if you are looking to learn how to use a firearm without feeling like you are bothering the rangers that are there to help. Our guide Kevin, along with Manny, and Joey, were calm, understanding, humorous, and made you feel comfortable throughout the session - even if you needed help clearing a jam... or several :) Looking forward to coming back! read more

I've always wanted to visit a shooting range, but my fingers would tremble at the thought of holding a gun. Luckily my first experience​ was with Pioneer. Came here for a date using a Groupon (who says you can;t be frugal on a date) one evening. There were no problems with them honoring my Groupon​ which was amazing since some places can be tricky. They often have Groupons, so I definitely​ recommend doing a quick search for a deal before visiting. My Groupon was the shooting package for two which offered Ammo, safety​​ lesson, and an​ hour range session. It cost a total of $99. If you run out of Ammo or want to swtich your target to something a little more interesting (a zombie holding a bikini clad girl in a head lock, you can purchase them for a few extra bucks). Upon arrival, I was prompted to fill out a safety​ wavier which is to be expected when working with lethal​ weapons. Then we were escorted to a training room right next to the gun range. The safety​ trainers are super personable and detailed. My nerves had finally calmed down and I began to feel like a pro marksman after the session. Due to their professionalism,​​ I felt completely confident walking into the range. Also note, they only allow you to shoot rifles​ with the Groupon but if you have your own firearm you can shoot it here. I saw some cannons! It was an amazing time and I hope to be back! read more

This was an AWESOME Valentine's Day idea!! I found about the place through Groupon and boy, am I glad I did! They had all sorts of cheesy and fun Valentine decorations out that made the experience so much more fun. Shooting instruction took place in what looked like a 2nd grade classroom, and I just kept reminiscing about the good old days when life was simpler. Caesar did an amazing job at teaching us, although I felt so nervous that half of what he was saying didn't process. He also cracked some pretty good jokes! :) Once I stepped out to the shooting range, the range masters were incredibly helpful and made me feel comfortable. I was off target most of the time, because my hands and stance were shaky. However, my boyfriend was at ease the whole time, and he hit bullseye with all 9 of his shots! :) Since it was Valentine's Day, we also enjoyed some sparking cider, candy, and donuts. I came to Pioneer for my 2hr Live Fire training. Kevin & Anthony were very professional. Their style of teaching will put you at ease while showing you how to properly & safely handle a firearm. There was a small lady in our class who had trouble loading a magazine. Anthony recognized that she needed assistance & allowed her to practice loading until she got it. I'm not much of a reviewer but wanted to share my experience of Pioneer Shooting Center. It was a decent place, perhaps better on some days then others. I found it to be overcrowded. That was a bit of a turnoff to me. With COVID still lurking, I would have thought that the waiting area would have been at the CDC required 50 percentile and from my observations, it was over that. The range seemed overcrowded as well. The shooting experience was nice. Temperatures were not taken. While we were there, I saw patrons without masks. Social distancing was not properly enforced. I felt uncomfortable and crowded. We left and ventured up to blue mountain. Prices were reasonable but the venue is very mismanaged in my opinion. read more

Came here for a night of Valentine's Day fun to try something different with my lady. Landed a deal on Groupon for a special Valentine's Day event here at this range. We booked an appointment for 7pm and unfortunately arrived late due to traffic. The staff members were really nice and still decided to accommodate us for our appointment. We met a really nice instructor named Caesar who worked with us personally. Caesar was very knowledgeable and highly skilled with teaching us how to operate the weaponry that we were using for the night. Best experience of 2018 so far!! I've always been curious about shooting and Pioneer made it the best introduction ever. I got a Groupon for an intro class that includes a safety class plus one hour range time. You learn a lot about lining up the shot, posture and correcting for eye dominance. A lot of friends have told me about the pain of the recoil but like most introductory classes in NY/NJ, they set you up with a 22mm rifle that has very little kick back, very pain free, could shoot it all day! And I wish I could have!! You actually need a pistol license in NY to fire any kind of pistols so rifles are all you can start with. The instructor was so funny and made the atmosphere very relaxed. It was very much about safety and learning a new skill. We had complimentary targets and 50 bullets, and could adjust the distance from 10 to 50 feet. Towards the end the instructor was kind enough to let us also fire an AR-15 (rifle with a scope) on fresh targets and 10 new bullets and it had much more kick back but it was so exciting to try a new gun! The location looks pretty far upstate but it's actually not that bad, it's only 25 minutes from Grand Central on a Stamford train (plus a short walk). The train only comes every half hour tho, so plan well! We hadn't realized and showed up about 15 minutes late but they were so accommodating! The train ticket both ways is ~$16 though so another factor to the cost! The groupon was $50 per person, which is honestly a great deal given how regular pricing has looked for comparable experiences at other ranges. 20/10 would recommend!!! read more

Purchased the Groupon for two for rifle shooting as a Valentine's Day gift and we had a blast. After we signed in, we had a safety lesson with Carmelo on the parts of the rifle and the proper way to load and safely handle it. After that we went into the range and we were ready to shoot. Tim was watching us and answered the crazy amount of questions I had. He was ready with the tape once he found out I couldn't close the correct eye and put it on my safety glasses. After I finished with my ammo, he let me know I could purchase more. And he offered $20 for 10 bullets for a different gun which I did get for my fiancé and he loved it. Came on Sunday December 16 for the Groupon Deal. 1 - You come, provide ID, fill out forms. 2 - The group sits together for roughly a half hour in an external off-range classroom for a basic safety/introduction/instructional class. 3 - You go on the range as a group. You basically get 50 bullets/shots at your paper target. The instructor is still guiding/leading you for maybe the first 5 or 10 bullets. By that time everything "clicks in" and you take your own time and initiative to shoot out the remainder of your shots, adjust target range at will, etc. Great first experience with the Groupon Deal. read more

First and foremost - the groupon deal is a scam. all you get is a kids' 22 rifle. cannot chose anything else. and the wait times are huge bc everyone with the groupon deal is waiting for this one 22 rifle.
