I didn't actually use their service. The 5 stars is for how responsive and flexible they are. I called asking for same-day consultation and possibly service. I thought it was an emergency situation so Pipe Monkeys made it a priority even though it was just a free consultation-- they were on their way when the person doing the inspection changed their mind and said this is NOT AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. I was relieved, but I had to call and flip-flop on Pipe Monkeys. I'm sure that was very frustrating, but they did not let on. I'm pinning them to the top of my list if I ever have a real need arise. Issue: Clogged bathroom sink drain. Spoke with Kirk, he was very friendly and courteous! Scheduling was fast and responsive, I got a heads-up call from the plumber who was dispatched notifying me about 30mins before he would be arriving within our scheduled window. Resolution: Nick came, he snaked the clogged main pipe, and went on his way. He was nice and competent, cool guy! It was a good experience, nothing out of the ordinary happened. There was some mild splatter as the snake head was being removed, maybe this could have been foreshadowed and I would've removed a few items from the bottom of the sink to avoid it in hindsight. Nothing a quick wipe and rinsing a few things couldn't solve. If you happen to be in this situation, leave the area clean and clear! Price was agreed prior and paid. I'm not sure what the average price is for this service in the area. The impression I get is that it may be slightly above average, but I'm talking out of my ass here lol just a guess, personally I'm a believer that everyone should charge what they feel makes doing something worth it. In certain situations I don't like to negotiate down because I don't like dealing with that myself, especially in this line of work, if I was a plumber part of my pricing consideration would be for the annoyance of work factor haha. Hired Pipe Monkeys once to replace a leaky faucet. They arrived on time and did a great job. So when our toilet got clogged from a pill case falling in and clogging it we reached out to them first. They were able to come by pretty quickly, which is great when you have only 1 toilet and it's clogged. They fixed it fast as I watched and asked them some questions about the tools and what they are doing so that in the future I could fix some clogs myself. I also like how they don't play games with their quotes. Some other companies give a low ball offer and then always increase it. They gave an average price and when it happened to be easier, they ended up charging less. I would definitely recommend them. read more

They responded quickly to my Yelp request with a fair quote. The plumber came on time yesterday and began disassembling the old vanity and sink. Because the Amazon faucet I ordered was delayed in shipping I ran out to several plumbing supply stores to get a replacement. By the time I returned he had the new vanity in place but hadn't cleaned the area under the old vanity. Too late at that point. He attached the marble top without understanding that the sink was an undermount type. He had to disassemble and remount. I had to go out and get a ball slide for the faucet stopper because the mechanism would not reach the drain. He had to install two extension pipes which added an additional cost of over $100. I did not question any of this because I did not have enough time to watch him work and care for my spouse with Alzheimer's. After he left I noticed there were leaks on both hot and cold water lines at the turn off joint. I called and left a message on his number and have not heard back. This morning I discovered he actually mounted the sink backward accounting for the additional pipes! Bad work! Follow up review. The owner Kirk called me and immediately set up an appt to come at 11am. He totally fixed the problems and was very apologetic. I appreciated his explanations and courtesy. In fact I am using him to install my new toilet and bidet. Great work! read more

Moved into the neighborhood in July, and within the first week of being at the place, had a bubbling toilet that wouldn't flush properly, back-up into the shower, and gurgles from the sink (all in the basement). Called Pipe Monkeys and Kirk was able to basically diagnose over the phone. Had a team member, Nick, come on sight the very next morning, who confirmed and fixed the problem. Wore a mask, cleaned up after himself, even explained in simple terms for me the crux of the issue. When a heavy rainfall caused some (minor) flooding out of the same pipes in the basement less than a week later, they came right after the storm passed, rechecked and recleaned everything - at no cost. Nick's inspection led him to believe it was residual debris/cleanout from the previous visit that was causing the issue. As we had no power, he cleaned out the trap by hand. Again, wore a mask the whole time and cleaned up after himself! Keeping an eye on things to make sure no more bad luck, but could not have been happier with the clarity and quality of service - both at the office with Kirk and at my residence with Nick. Pricing is hourly rate plus the parts. Kirk came with his assistant Nick. They both put in hard, honest, labor intensive work. Who right away knew what the issue was (after I shared the symptom). His price was fair and not overpriced. Great experience from beginning to end. When we called to have him diagnose a leak in our shower control valve as a second opinion to another plumber whom we felt was trying to gouge us, Kirk set the appointment for the next day, on a weekend, as a drop-by to check out the problem. We know very little about plumbing, but a friend of ours had told us he thought the problem might be as simple as a new cartridge; the other high-end plumber who had checked it out told us it was most likely the shower body, which would require them to go behind tile, open the drywall in an adjoining closet, and do a significant amount of work, estimated in four figures just for the plumbing, to say nothing of the wall and tile repair that would have to be done. Based on our friend's opinion, that first plumber's diagnosis didn't sound right to us, so we called Pipe Monkeys based on the reviews here. We are so glad we did. First, Kirk showed up precisely on time as promised for the diagnosis, appropriately masked, and reviewed the issue with me. Next, he stated that he thought the issue was indeed a cartridge due to the pattern of leakage, and that we just needed to secure the part for him (since it was a high-end specialty brand that would need to be ordered) and call him when we had it in hand. He was VERY explanatory throughout, which I greatly appreciated. Finally, as he was wrapping up, I asked him how much for the initial visit, and he said, "Nothing for today. I have an hourly minimum; when I come back to put in the part, today can be part of that; call me when you have the part, we're good." It's hard to find that kind of trust and good faith in contracted labor these days. We ordered the part, and when we received it, we called Kirk and he again offered to come out the next day (he even offered to come out the same day, but we were busy) and again, he came on a weekend, totally convenient for us because we work long days during the week. He arrived per his scheduled time window, at the early end of the time window. He worked carefully and replaced the old part with the new, tested it, even provided guidance for other work we needed to have done before leaving. Everything was done in less than an hour and we were very happy with the quality of the work as well as the advice. As much as I would like to I cannot write a positive review . Hired to install a kitchen sink and faucet and also to run a water line over to my fridge for icemaker . No problem with the sink and faucet but not so happy with the results of the other job. Kirk, who showed up to do the job,was not prepared with proper tools or materials to do the job .I provided the kit with extra length of tubing for the water line and hardware . He still had to ask to borrow hardware . He left the tubing hanging down off the wall and ceiling and asked if I could get some duct tape to finish it after he leaves . I made the mistake of letting him leave it like that . I called the next day to complain and he did come back with no hesitation , with some tape but still ran it sloppily and left it looking like shit . He even asked if he could use my paring knife to cut the tape. I was charged 30 bucks for parts and I'm not sure what parts they were cause I couldn't make out the receipt. I'm sorry brother but you need to do much better . Take your time and come prepared and you won't need to rush the job . Oh and you left sawdust on my counter top and various debris all over my kitchen. read more

We get sewer backups a couple times a year in our 3-family house. It doesn't help that our house sits in front of the manhole & a sewer hub, where all the street debris likes to settle & torment us. And, our upstairs tenants include four women, with thick long hair that is always clogging our pipes .... Anyway, it's gotten that all I need to do is sniff the air in our hallway -- and know that trouble is brewing from that telltale, horrible, sewer gas smell. And there's usually no time to wait. I can go from a sniff to an entire flood inside our 1st floor apt within the same day! So, about a month ago, my nostrils sounded the alarm, and I called our regular sewer guy. Well, of course, he was out-of-town. Then I called another guy we had used and was OK, but he couldn't come out for at least another day. More calls to others here on Yelp, and it was like Backup Sewer Day in NYC, everyone was busy. Pipe Monkeys was a new business, and I prefer to use contractors who have a whole big bunch of positive Yelp. But, no choice. So I called. And Kirk, the owner of Pipe Monkeys, said he'd be right out within two hours. Turns out Kirk had been a manager for over a decade at the big name sewer company that everyone's heard of. He had a nice big, strong machine. He automatically snaked my sewer in both directions -- toward the street, and then toward the house -- something other guys don't mention doing, and when i ask, I've been charged extra. And he was infinitely patient. The snake got through, but Kirk was determined to snag the cause, so he kept at it until something big and furry and gross came back. He said it was so much hair, it looked like a wig. Or, it could have been gunky, shredded tree roots. Also fabulous: It was after hours, but he didn't charge me an Emergency fee. Can't tell you how many times I've been slammed before -- even with my regular guy. And his rate was very reasonable -- less than most. And he's smart, grew up in Queens, and speaks perfect English. Plus Greek, for those of us in Astoria. Well, a few days ago, I smelled that sewer gas smell in the hallway again!! I couldn't believe it! And when Kirk opened up that big grate inside the garage that leads to the sewer pipe, we saw all this debris and gunk ... The city had just been out to replace our water main pipes in the street, and Kirk's theory is that a whole bunch of the excavated street ended up in the nearby sewer main, clogging it. Well, here is an honest, conscientious guy: After Kirk cleaned out my pipes again, he called the NYC 3-1-1 line, and got the city's sewer dept to come out and flush out the main sewer with this high-pressure jet stream. By doing this, I shouldn't have another problem for a long time. Which means I won't be needing Kirk's services. So, to help this new customer, Kirk voluntarily lost some future business from me. I live in an old Co-Op in Jackson Heights in the Historic District. My partner and I had an issue with one of our showers that never drained and we tried everything that we could over the counter. I posted on yelp asking for quotes and Kirk responded promptly via text and we arranged an appointment after I sent him some images for a quote. I received several quotes from people and Kirk's was not only competitive, but his breakdown was really comprehensive of what the task was going to entail. He arrived early, went to work immediately, and cleaned up like he was never there. If you're looking for a clean, good, knowledgable person to do a job involving pipes or drains in your home, I cannot recommend you Kirk enough. More details on the job and why it was more complicated than it should have been: - The previous owner of my building redid their bathroom but instead of allowing the shower pipe to be accessible, they installed a grate over the pipe making it not accessible because of shoddy workmanship - I was honest about this in my request detailing that the pipe was not going to be easy to get to and that a snake was not going to be able to fit between the grate - Kirk mentioned that he was probably going to need to saw the grate to get his tools in to work on the pipe and walked me through the process so I knew what was going to happen - He came prepared with the tools, cut the grate, got into the pipes and cleared it out My shower runs the smoothest it's ever run and I cannot thank Kirk enough read more

When I had my dishwasher installed a few months back, they said the plumbing underneath the sink was old and rusting and needed to be replaced. I texted Pipe Monkeys and sent some photos. As I was getting the pipes fixed, I figured I might as well replace the kitchen sink too. Kurt came by, and soon figured out that replacing the kitchen sink was going to be a challenge. The old sink was really stuck in and the new sink was just barely big enough for the cut out. Kirk did a nice job, explaining everything along the way. I also asked him to look at our bathroom sink drain while he was there. That was a piece of work too. The previous plumbers had done some crazy stuff. Kirk replaced all that too with a more standard configuration. After he left, I found out that the pipes under the sink were leaking a bit, he came back the next day to fix them. I called Pipe Monkeys to unclog our toilet and Kirk came within 40 minutes as promised over the phone and fixed it in 2 minutes. He didn't make me feel embarrassed for the clog and was kind enough to clean the floor afterwards. We also had a slow draining faucet that could be improved using an enzyme solution that he had but explained that this may be caused by how old our building was.
