Very unpleasant experience. I understand the captain has safety rules, and of course guests should follow them, but the way he communicated was extremely rude and unfriendly. Saying things like "This is my boat, are you the captain or I'm the captain?! follow my rules" made everyone feel uncomfortable. He is a super professional and licensed captain with decades of knowledge on the local ecosystem and culture. We have been using them every year for 6 years now and every adventure is just breathtaking! We have done Many different adventures with Hector and he just blows us away every time! We have gone snorkeling in the bioluminescent bay at night (which was a magical once in a lifetime experience for us), swimming with sea turtles and rays off the coast of Palomino Island, a remote beach experience on an abandoned limestone mining island (Isla Icacos), and several other adventures that we will keep just between us. Hector has a beautiful big white Boston Whaler boat that is in perfect condition. He also has all the floaties, masks, snorkels, wetsuits, rafts, accessories and equipment you could possibly want in order to make your trip unforgettable, and the equipment is properly fitting and kept in perfect condition and is obviously well maintained. He even includes snacks and soft drinks. Hector is also an incredible resource on all information related to the ocean or the island of Puerto Rico or any wildlife you may come across. We were able to walk up and rent snorkeling gear directly from the tent during a busy week. Staff directed us to the reefs and made it easy. Price was reasonable but if you intend to rent gear, get it as soon as you can in the morning, as it's one price for the day no matter how long you use it. The Seven Seas beach offers plenty to see without needing to get on a boat. If you're staying nearby, it's really convenient to just walk down to the beach and grab your gear. I highly recommend the Kayaking and Snorkeling Experience if you have had little/no experience kayaking and or snorkeling before. I had snorkeled before but struggled and after having an excursion with Pirate Snorkeling, I will struggle no more! Joshua was a wonderful guide and gave us a lot of great information about the mangroves and the natural environment in the area. We did Culebra and bioluminescence bay with another company but our excursion with Pirate Snorkeling Shack was our favorite experience. I found this business last year on Gustazos (similar to Groupon). They had a deal that included 2 hours of kayak or SUP and unlimited snorekling for 2 people. We called and asked if they allowed toddlers. A few places told us no but they said it was okay, as long a he fit between us on the kayak. We brought a child sized life jacket. When we arrived we handed the guy our coupon and they gave us a map of the reefs and sent us on our way. He advised us to stay to the right because of the strong current. And they weren't kidding. That was a nice workout. Lots of fun though. We didn't do the snorkeling because of our son. We returned another day with some friends and this time did the snorkeling because our son was with his grandparents. The kayak g was great. Our friends liked it. The snorkeling not so much. The water was too murky that day. Although i was able to find a dollar. We came back with our son a third time earlier this year and had a blast again. This time we kayaked to the end to a small beach. Very relaxing. This is stating the obvious but I recommend this business. read more

I rented a mask, snorkel and flippers from their little operation set up on Seven Seas Beach near Fajardo. They were friendly, and gave me a nice little water proof map of the coral reefs, which turned out to be extremely helpful. However, I only recommend going out to far reefs on your own, if you are a strong swimmer, adventurous, and the sea is calm. It is not for the faint of heart, and I got a bit concerned for my safety a few times. But if you don't go out to the far reefs, then all you will see is an itty bitty one and maybe some other wildlife. read more

This was an awesome experience! We set out as a family of five with three younger kiddos (ages 8, 6 and 3). From booking until the end, it was easy, well organized, super professional and so much fun! We took a kayak out to the sea and snorkeled around a reef. Everyday will have different sea life to view but this day had lots of jellyfish! Our guides showed our little ones how to "pet" them; something I didn't know you could do without getting stung. We went to a very quite beach and a lagoon and hung out for a bit. It was the most perfect morning/afternoon! It is something we could have done with or without our kids. read more

There are three choices for snorkeling in PR. Use your own gear and go it alone, sign up with an overpriced tour company that sets you on a specific time table, or use Pirate. We chose Pirate, and it was the perfect choice for us. We didn't want to wake up early or rush to snorkel. We took our time, stopped at Luquillo for lunch and arrived at Pirate around 2pm. The staff at Pirate were friendly and provided everything we needed for a great afternoon of snorkeling. We were the only people around the reef and saw tons of sealife. March 18, 2015 - Highly recommend! We will not go to anyone else for water sports in Fajardo! Capt. Hector spoke great English which was really helpful and rented us paddle boards for a reasonable and competitive price. He took reservations and accepted credit cards which was also convenient. Being a Luquillo native, he gave us tips on where to get some of the best authentic Puerto Rican food - which did not let us down either. He and his wife, Coral, went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, safe, and enjoyed ourselves. To top it off, when Bio Bay kayaking tours were sold out (11 different companies, most booked out at least two weeks+) we called Pirate Snorkeling Shack and rented kayaks the very next night at almost half the price! I highly recommend this company for close to shore snorkeling. Their set up is really safe and good for families. Two tour guides are in the water with you to help locate the sea creatures and another guide is keeping a close eye in a kayak. We didn't see any large animals but still fun!
