The truck came to our office for an event. I had their pastrami fries. Think of a hefty pastrami sandwich served open face on fries without bread. Pastrami, mustard, pickles, cherry tomatoes and slaw. Really good. The fries were great. They never got soggy. They stayed crispy on the outside and were sturdy enough to hold the toppings. Pastrami wasn't too salty and the slaw was sweet and crispy. Very balanced flavors. This was definitely NOT a side order. It was entree sized. I would try other items of they came back. read more

Tried Pirates Bistro's food truck this evening at one of my favorite local breweries, Alosta Brewery in Covina (this brewery has a featured food truck/ food vendor a few times a week. Check out their website calendar). When I came by Alosta Brewery, Pirates Bistro had the truck out front but the did not appear to be open. No menu, no window open, just the driver door open but no one there to take orders (that is disappointing because all of the other food vendors my husband and I tried at this brewery has always been open early and ready for business). Anyways, I came back to check on this truck and waited in line to make my order. There was only 4 items to choose from and so I decided to get the following: BBQ Chicken Tots, $10 (includes tax)- For this menu item, you can choose to have this item served over tater tots or fries. But you can also choose to have it served on a brioche slider bun. I opted for tater tots because they are fun. The menu board describes the chicken to be "slow braised". Unfortunately I thought the shredded chicken was pretty disappointing. It was mushy and did not have much flavor. It made me thing of chicken from a can. The slaw on top was good but not great. The tarter tots could have been cooked a bit more (didn't have that crunch factor and would have liked it to be warmer). Also I was not a fan of the shredded cheddar cheese. I would have preferred the cheese to be melted. The portion of this menu item was a little on the small side for the price. Would not order this again. Pastrami Fries $10 (includes tax)- I ordered this menu item for my husband on a bed of fries (your choice of fries or tarter tots, but no bun like the BBQ Chicken menu item). The slaw was refreshing and had a nice crunch factor (but wasn't the best slaw that I have ever had). I thought it was nice to have the pickles. Just like menu item, I would have preferred for the fries to be cooked through more. The fries were not crunchy and mostly soggy (probably because of the sauce and being placed under everything). Also the fries were not warm and it was disappointing to see unmelted shredded cheddar cheese. The pastrami wasn't anything special. This was a pretty disappointing menu item like my BBQ chicken. --------------------------------------- (Total= $20, this food truck is currently CASH ONLY) Wait time for the food to be delivered to our table took a while (but that seems to be a typical thing of food trucks). I felt that the food was overly priced and pretty disappointed with what we had. I was really hoping that it would taste good but I just had too high of hopes for it. I have definitely had better (heck, I could make it better at home). I am not a fan of giving low reviews, but just want to be honest. I would not eat from Pirate Bistro again and would bring my own food if they are back at Alosta Brewery. read more

We had Pirates Bistro cater our party of 80+ guests, and let me tell you... it was outstanding! Chef prepared BBQ pork sliders, Hawaiian Mac Salad, Caprese Skewers, Bruschetta, Fried Calamari and Guacamole with and without shrimp. Also homemade salsa and tortilla chips. It was a great menu, and all the guests (including vegetarians), enjoyed the choices and the flavors. We will definitely use them to cater events in the future. Went on a mission to find this truck because they were finally in my area when I was not working! I am so glad that I did! Tonight's special is Blue Cheese Mac Shells! (Pasta shells with grilled chicken, red onion, arugula, rosemary and a blue cheese sauce topped with walnuts). Lisa ( the lady who took my order) came out to speak to me personally and went over ingredients one by one with me, as I have food allergies! So... the shells were creamy and the onions caramelized to perfection! Just the right amount of blue cheese. The arugula was the perfect green to add just a hint of peppery goodness! I did not get the walnuts because of my allergies but it looked so good with them on it and i am sure they added a little nutty crunch! I saw the roasted pork sliders come out and they smelled delicious! The pastrami fries, were tasty too tried my friend's! Next time I am off and they are near me, I am going to try the S.C.B. Pirate 'dilla! (Shrimp, chorizo, and bacon pepper jack, sriracha sour cream, green onion, and tomatos all melted in a jalapeño cilantro tortilla! Hell yeah! Get in my freaking belly! For you vegetarians they also have a vege dilla! Kinda Mediterranean style with a twist. Again sounds amazing i am a sucker for feta and artichoke hearts and spinach. Totally need a sampler platter on the menu! A lil of everything for the masses! Hehe So worth the effort to finally track them down and try it! Just heard they will be at old stump on labor day!! The food at Pirates Bistro was the bomb dot com!! I tried this foot truck at the Bruery Terreaux in Anaheim, 4th of July weekend. Seriously AMAZING food and pairs well with craft beer! I had the Toni Basil Quesadilla without chicken (I'm a veggie, duh) and it was probably the BEST quesadilla I've ever had. No joke. Arugula, sun-dried tomato, zucchini, mushrooms and artichoke hearts! Seriously to die for, and I did not think I was eating from a food truck. I have enjoyed several menu items from this food truck and I will definitely enjoy their food again and again. The service is excellent and you know your order is fresh because it isn't served right after you order it. If you're looking for something different with a hint familiarity then you will love their food. Unless your a child and only eat chicken nuggets and hotdogs, you are going to love and crave it! Let me end by saying this...if don't like coleslaw or cheese or sauce then don't get it with your order. If you think you can do better, then go open your own food truck and prove it. I was able to enjoy Pirates Bistro last night in Anaheim at The Bruery - Terreaux. Being vegetarian, I'm always weary of finding something to eat on any menu, let alone a food truck. However, the super friendly staff was able to whip me up one of best quesadillas I've had! Every bite was great and I was pleasantly suprised. The perfect combo to the great beer. Cheers! read more

Ummm... YUM! I tried Pirates Bistro at Old Stump Brewery and fell in LOVE with the Clam Chowda Tots. It's comfort without being too heavy and the arugula was the perfect addition. The Fried Mushrooms were also killer. Thanks guys and I'll be looking looking for you in the future. read more

The food was incredible! I'm not sure where they sailed to get their spices, but I'm pretty sure the special seasoning is magic. I ordered the vegetarian option of the day "Ahoy, Me Hearties" it was tator tots dish topped with roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and artichoke hearts in a marinara sauce. I opted to leave the cheese off the top since I don't eat dairy and the wench that was taking my order was really nice about it. Maybe it was the because I was at the brewery all day, but I could have sworn the buccaneer making the food had an wooden leg and cut everything with a giant curved sword. I wish I could give an extra star for the cleanliness of their vessel. If I had one complaint though, it's that they wouldn't accept gold coins as payment, when I presented my booty they just pointed to the "cash only" sign. read more

We received our food at 7:15 -- nearly an hour later. I don't have a clue how it could take so long to fry some tater tots and cucumbers and add some toppings?
