This was my second year in a row hunting deer with Mike. Last year we successfully harvested a Blacktail in California and this year we hunted for mule deer in Nevada. While we weren't able to make the connection with "Big Hank" this time around, I had an absolutely amazing time and consider the trip a smashing success. Mike, Jerry and Patrick were amazing hosts and we ate like kings every night, laughed, learned more than I ever could have imagined about buckaroo culture, hiked our butts off and made memories that will last a lifetime. I had an amazing time hunting blacktail deer with Mike near Santa Maria. Mike is a natural teacher and an amazingly patient guide - we started off with some hiking & glassing on the first day and then enjoyed some stargazing with after dinner. On day 2, we managed to harvest a nice forkie early and then Mike walked me through the process of field dressing, skinning, quartering and butchering the deer. I learned a ton and had a blast and would highly recommend Mike. As an added bonus, I had amazing, high quality venison for months. read more

Mike was professional, precise, affable and accommodating. When we didn't find anything on day one, and I wasn't available the next day, he found another day several months later and just at the end of the time window, we found the pig, I took the shot and we had some great pics, memories and sausage. I hunted deer with Mike of Pismo Adventures and it was a horrible experience. The first day I showed up he told me abruptly that he would get me set up at the campsite but wouldn't stay with me over night and couldn't hunt with me the next day but he would tell me where to sit. We climbed in the dark for seemingly hours not on any paths through extremely thick brush. I am a woman and a beginner and was staying by myself in the woods and have no idea what I am doing. The next day I sat where he told me to from 6 am to 3 pm and didn't see a single deer. It was frightfully hot even in the shade in the tent. There was a fire warning and I was close to suffering heat stroke. I had enough. I was miserable. I decided to pack my tent and try to get back to my truck but couldn't find my way back as we had come up through thick brush in the dark. I tried a couple of routes and was on a couple of dangerous steep cliff edges and eventually found the way back. As I was loading up my truck Mike arrived and after I explained my day he admitted that he was a teacher and took Friday off to hunt with me, but his boss said he had to work so he left me alone to figure it out myself. Initially he refused to give me a refund but after I objected that I had been physically at risk due to heat stroke, getting lost, and nearly falling off some cliffs he finally agreed to give me a refund. Thank you Mike! This was a great morning of kayaking on the kelp and catching a few fish. My daughter (16) had an amazing time to. Mike was attentive to our needs and made the experience very pleasant. We were on a road trip home with a stop in Pismo and hooked up on a web search. Our choice was renting a dune buggy or going fishing.. we obviously made the right choice.
