Went to Vision BBQ for pre-concert dinner (show was at Ting Pavilion). Walked in on a Sunday…read moreafternoon about 5. Very slow, business wise. Server (Brianna) started out good, fairly attentive until I got my food. After I got my food I got one cursory "all good?" and that was it until I got the bill. Anyway, on to the food: ordered two meat plate (brisket and pulled pork) with fries and coles slaw. Fries were the highlight of the meal. Hot, crispy, seasoned...awesome. Cole slaw was good....but it was super tangy (vinegary) for my taste. Don't get it wrong, it was good, just hard to eat all of it thanks to the tang. On to the meat. Got a pretty good sized pile of pulled pork and a couple slices of brisket. Both meats were lukewarm at best. Pork was dry (thank goodness for the NC vinegar sauce). The brisket made up for the porks dryness, it was extra greasy and extra fatty. Like, for real, do you think people are going to eat the fat layer between the lean point meat and the fatty upper meat? Yeah, not me. But since the brisket was also lukewarm (more like lukecold) it really didn't make a difference. I did think the Vision BBQ sauce tasted pretty good. If Brianna would have come back by after I got my meal I would have sent it back....and probably would have just left without worrying over a replacement, or a comp, or anything. Secondary issue: went to the mens room. It was just nasty. You get once shot to make an impression, and this one was not good. Would not/will not repeat.

To me, a good bite of brisket, should be like a good bite of steak, no sauce required. Here sauce is required so there is enough moisture in your mouth to swallow. Same with ribs. The smoked chicken was not terribly dry and was flavorful and the fried chicken had solid flavor but was again dry. Now back to those sides...the beans are very flavorful and the collards are perfect. Wolf's Fixings needs to come here and to get side tips and this place needs to go there for brisket tips. Together they would be great.

Well, at the register we were advised, "we don't serve them here, only the Crozet location." So my wife recommended that they be lined out or taken off the menu option, we were told by the cashier, "I have no control over that" and when suggested he lets the manager or own know, a reply of "yeah" and a chuckle was under his breath. The restaurant is still clean and well presentable but the friendliness and excitement from the employees is lacking from before when the Crozet location was not open. So as for the food now, disappointment continues. The French Fries, as pictured and video, are not cooked all of the way. The pulled chicken is dry and over cooked. The sides are 1/2 the previous sizes, look at the pictures, and the side of chicken salad for $5 is not even enough for a sandwich. Guess it's time to look for another BBQ place to go to since $45 equates to uncooked food and 1/2 servings....rather disappointing when I was such a fan. If this is fixed, I will update but for now...maybe it's back to Vision BBQ downtown Charlottesville.

The food and service were impeccable. For bartending service, Red Hub provided the bar set up and mixers, but allowed us to provide our own alcohol which is uncommon among catering vendors. Red Hub generated a custom menu for our reception that consisted of a nacho bar for cocktail hour followed by a taco buffet for dinner. They also baked a beautiful cutting cake and delivered brunch to the lodge we were at the following morning for everyone to enjoy. Overall an incredible vendor who expertly provided us multiple wedding services.

We have been wanting to support local businesses but also are really into the family meals people are offering so figured bbq was a good option for a weekend meal. The pulled pork was succulent and delicious, savory and slightly sweet. The creamy coleslaw for topping the pork sammies was good, classic and not too sweet like some people make slaw. The house made chips are excellent, they were hot and fresh and well seasoned. We got the macaroni as our other side and it was tasty. We had plenty leftovers (enough for a second meal for our family of 3), didn't even touch the chicken tenders included the first time. The amount of food provided and the extra included touches, like pickles and sauces, make this family meal an excellent deal when looking at some other family meals offered around town. Thanks Red Hub! Y'all should get in on this action.

I tried the Babyback Ribs and Fried Chicken Soul Sandwiches. The Babyback Ribs were really good. The ribs are taken off the bone for the soul sandwich and plated on slices of potato rolls. The Fried Chicken was good but not the best I've had in Charlottesville. I would have liked the outside to be crispier. The cornbread that comes with the order was also good. It was not traditional cornbread-- it tasted like carrot cake corn bread. The Mac and Cheese was a little too overcooked for my liking. However, for the meat sandwich and two sides were a large portion and cost 12 dollars which was awesome. Overall, Soul Food Joint is a charming locally owned soul food place downtown. It wasn't the best fried chicken or barbecue that I've had in Charlottesville, however the food was good and the portions were great for the price.
