Fabulous food. Service is excellent. Ambience is great. I just wish you would not have moved away from Glen Rose.

My wife and I came to Massey's BBQ for the first time while we were visiting Glen Rose for a weekend getaway. This restaurant has wonderful space--they have indoor seating and then a separate, HUGE pavilion. We opted for the pavilion because it is dog-friendly. It was perfect--multiple TVs, long bench-style tables for parties of all sizes, a stage for live music, a small bar area, and outside of it, pickleball courts! To eat, I ordered some "Mozzarella Cheese sticks," a "Brisket Sandwich," and a side of "Mac and Cheese." The cheese sticks came out fresh with cheese melted and dangling with every bite as it should. The brisket in the sandwich was moist and tender and the Mac and cheese was also very flavorful and delicious. I topped it off with some sweet tea. The cherry on top for us was the wonderful customer service--a manager/owner came out and spoke with us, asked where we were from and thanked us for coming by. Great hospitality. We had an amazing experience here and would recommend Massey's to anyone!! Can't wait to come back whenever we're in town. read more

Live music and BBQ, does it get any better? My wife and I were in Glen Rose for a weekend getaway. The hotel we stayed in recommended Massey's and had their live music schedule posted in the lobby. We love live music. We really enjoy good BBQ. We were not disappointed! Massey's is located on the highway between Glen Rose and Granbury, adjacent to the golf course. The building is decorated with pages that kids colored. There's an arcade. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The live music takes place in the outdoor seating area. I ordered the Massey Mess with pulled pork. It's a frito pie with delicious BBQ. The serving is massive. My wife had the loaded baked potato with brisket. She couldn't finish hers either. Both dishes were delicious. The meat was tender and full of flavor. All the ingredients were fresh. The service just couldn't be beat, beginning with the owner. Todd Massey himself greeted us as we came in and gave us a warm welcome. He answered all our questions about the menu. How often does THAT happen? The serving staff is sweet, friendly, and attentive. We never had to wait. They brought our food to us and checked on us often. Free refills on drinks. The music venue is very family friendly and roomy. There are fans on the perimeter and ceiling fans to keep everyone comfortable. The lighting was great and the sound of the band was too. There are ample clean bathtrooms. We sat there on a Saturday evening eating delicous BBQ and listening to good music. There were kids playing in the grassy area behind the pavillion. Couples got up and danced to their favorite songs. There was a nice breeze blowing. In the distance you can see the golf course. Folks, it just doesn't get much better than this. Believe it or not my favorite thing was the fried okra! My family and I came in on a Wednesday afternoon after a trip to Fossil Rim. So glad we stopped in! Everyone was so friendly. Casual place, really good food! Burnt ends for the win! Sides were ok. Slightly pricey but this is a touristy area. Definitely worth a stop if in the area for the local attractions! read more

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Todd Massey, himself!! SUCH a gentleman, he went over the menu with us and it's HUGE. I chose the Massey Mess (a Frito pie with Fritos, cheese, and choice of meat - I chose the pulled pork - and stuff on the side: sour cream, jalapeños, pickles. I opted out of beans). It was absolutely delicious!! My babe got the turkey sandwich and it was very tasty, great smoke on the meats, for sure!! We also got an order of their onion rings to share, and they were absolutely top notch, I just wish we had more room for them, the portions are GENEROUS!! Arrived at Massey's BBQ first time for me and second time for friends. We were greeted by the owner with a big smile. I ordered a full rack of ribs to pick up. On their website it showed three locations, the closest to me in Glen Rose. We drove the 1/2 hour to Glen Rose from our home only to find that this location was permanently closed. When I called the same number I ordered from they informed that they had moved to Granbury. Drove 1/2 to Granbury and when I inquired why they did not make any changes to the website regarding closing and opening a new location. The answer "We are too busy" Next time I will be "too busy" to give you my business! What a thing to say. I was very put off and still looking forward to the ribs once home. 14 bones and 7 each from a different Rack! 7 bones cooked perfectly and very good! 7 bones that had probably been sitting around for two or three days and totally dried out. You cannot miss this big beautiful building while headed out towards Glen rose. What you can't see from the front is the massive covered outdoor dining and stage area that is included and miss miss the pickle ball court tucked off to the side. But let's get to the BBQ since that's what we were really here for. Walked in to meet the owner who gave us a menu tour. Settled on turkey, ribs and brisket with potato salad, baked beans, green beans and onion rings. Comes with option of regular or spicy sauce and pickle/onion/jalapeños of course. We didn't love the brisket but the rest was spot on! Turkey was tender and juicy. The onion rings were so good - house made fresh. The sides were all perfect. The ribs were huge and peppery. The owner greeted my family as soon as we got in line and Mr. Massey explained what was on the menu and how big each serving size was. Everyone was super polite. High marks for service and cleanliness. Since we were there just a little before closing they were out of ribs, baked potatoes and pulled pork. The brisket and sausage were both very good as were the beans and potato salad. Fried okra and onion rings were ok. I bet Mr Massey ask "Family y'all doing Good" 3 or 4 times. Booze will be available after October 13th, once Massey and his stellar team navigate the Texas law corn maze. I ordered a loaded baked potato, which turned out to be the size of a nerf football, turkey on the side. The turkey is diced, which I found appealing; it is the most flavorful I can recall, if a tiny -- hey, I'm splitting hairs -- bit on the dry side. Regular sauce is exactly what you'd expect, and I slathered the turkey with it. Hell, I'd put the stuff on Cheerios. A clean and sprawling faciliity with various dining venues, all tastefully Texana. It is not Hard 8 BBQ nor does it try to be. Pleasant, comfortable, and a guaranteed success that will hopefully trigger a Johnson City-Fredericksburg symbiosis along the 144 link between unpolished Granbury and its more laid-back wealthy sibling, Glen Rose. First time visit. Loved the unique fun outer appearance. I was happy to see pride and no fear of expressing love of faith, family, country, flag, and a reminder of John 3:16. Loved the innocence of the children's drawings, reminder of simpler times. Being warmly greeted by the owner with a smile at the door was a throwback to southern hospitality. It's nearly obsolete to be welcomed sincerely in any establishment today. Brisket was fantastic and so tender it fell apart when I dipped it in my bbq sauce, the jalapeño sausage was delicious as well but needed more heat as it was mild. I've not found a restaurant yet that adds enough heat to jalapeño menu items though. Hand cut onion rings were thickly cut as I like them with a nice batter and the mac and cheese was thick and creamy goodness. Bbq sauce not too sweet just right. The Oreo pudding was one of a kind. Not your typical pudding. It reminded me of cream cheese mixed with a whipped topping making it deliciously light and airy. Staff were so nice and friendly making sure we knew about the bands that play there and the pickle ball court in the back. Came by to offer us complimentary rolls. Upon leaving Mr. Massey said goodbye calling us "family"! Nice man! Life is short and he's living it the right way. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and will be back! We are from Lewisville Texas visiting Glen Rose and felt like Mexican or BBQ. The group picked BBQ. We had ribs, sliced brisket, jalapeño sausage with pinto beans, Mac and cheese, onion rings and fried okra. Sweet tea to wash it all down! The sauce both plain and spicy were rocking it as well. Nice new bbq place in Glen Rose. Food is as good or better as Coopers and Hard 8. Thing that set Massey's apart for me is the staff is very friendly and helpful. Owner came over and introduced himself and asked if had been there before and where from. . Went over them menu with us and let us how big portions are, which are good sized. Wife went back inside to get more tea and owner asked how we were doing and called her by name. Good job on the customer treatment and service which is lacking at a lot of restaurants anymore. We had brisket, ribs onion rings, green beans and potato salad. All were very good. Will go back here when hungry for bbq again. read more

This review goes a little deep. People never know when their smiles and friendliness impacts someone else. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated with warmth and the friendliest smiles! What the crew at Massey's don't know is that it has been a very rough 7 months for my family. We were able to take our son and our youngest daughter out this weekend just to "get away" from the weights that life brings and we spent the day at Glen Rose at Fossil Rim. We were starving and a quick Google search and positive reviews led us to Massey's. Toi greeted us first as we walked in. Then Raygan and Macy patiently waited for us to look at the menu and took our orders. After some laughs and conversations, my family and I sat to wait for our dinner. My son sat down after getting his drink and mentioned a nice girl (long blond hair) who struck up a conversation with him. I don't know who this young lady is, but she made a big impact on my son who has been dealing with some rough things. This same young lady brought us our food with smiles. Toi later came to check on us and we engaged in more friendly conversation. We continued our dinner which by the way.....WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!! Everything was mouth watering and finger licking good! I had the burger and my son and husband had the chopped brisket sandwich. We also added their mac and cheese. The food was SO GOOD my son ordered another round to go since we live across the metroplex!! Soon, Toi made her rounds but this time, Todd Massey was with her and he shook all of our hands and struck up another conversation with us and cracked some jokes!! Many laughs later, my husband noticed they also sold banana pudding and after he tried it, we ordered a few rounds of that to take home!! Listen, as you walk in, you see scripture on their windows. When I saw that, I was hoping we would be ending our time as a family in a memorable way. Thank you Toi, Reagan, Macy, Todd and the sweet blond girl and ALL the staff for sending my family home with a great finish!! We're ending our spring break with a great day!! The food I ordered was delicious however very over priced for what you get. Coleslaw price way too high and the amount was too much for one person so wasteful. French fries needed to be cooked longer. The almost 12 dollar pulled pork sandwich with only a quarter cup of meat. Still it was good but I won't go back because of price. read more

Service is great. The girls at the counter are so sweet. I love Cole slaw do I was looking forward to it. Not impressed. Seems like a mix and nothing special about it. Had their spicy BBQ wings. They were ok however they were baked or grilled hours ago. $22 for 10 wings and small Cole slaw($4 for the slaw). I'll still go again but will select other items. read more
