The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the service.. it could've been better but the FOOOD. It's flavorful, has every seasoning needed and the portions are great! I made this plate two meals. The beef kebob is a big size and the sizes are good

I don't get the chance to visit Bakersfield very often. However, this hidden gem of a restaurant absolutely exceeded my expectations in every way possible. This is none other than "Pita House", a business that has been around since late-2010 and has been dishing out some amazingly excellent Mediterranean dishes. Located in a strip mall off of Ming Ave and Akers Rd, this business is in a large strip mall that consists of many other eateries and retail stores. Parking can get a little busy depending on the time of day or evening you come. After parking my vehicle, there are no actual windows where you can see inside. And also be careful not to go into the pupusa restaurant as that is right next door. However, when making my way inside, I noticed how this place has that old school look to it. Everything from the avocado-colored walls to the seats and floor tiles, it gives you those 1980's vibes. I also wanted to add that there is a very cool painting of a beach w/ocean near the ordering area as well as another painting of mountains and clouds behind the register. After glancing through their menu, I ended up going with their #24 "Gyro Deluxe" combo. This consisted of 1/2 Greek salad complete with gyro meat inside of pita bread. I chose lamb as my protein of choice. My lady went with their "Chicken Salad" which consists of onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, Romaine lettuce, and olives. There was only one lady working while the chefs were in the back cooking and preparing the food. We arrived around 7:50pm during the evening of Thursday 7/25/2024. Since there was a very large party (of about 8 people) that ordered right before us, the lady (which I am guessing is the owner/manager) said it would be a bit of a wait. I like being informed that it will take awhile to give us a heads up. However, it only took about 25 minutes which I did not mind at all. As far as my gyro and salad, everything tasted absolutely perfect. The salad had some of the greenest lettuce (we are in Kern County where there is so much agriculture here) and it was all very fresh. My gyro also had very generous amount of lamb while the pita was warm and soft. I even tried some of her chicken salad and even this was seasoned to perfection. After cleaning our plates and finishing our meals, we paid and give the lady a little tip. All in all, "Pita House" was a very pleasant surprise and one of the better Mediterranean places I've been to. So if you're in Bakersfield, definitely check them out. Keep in mind they are closed on Sundays but open every other day. My rating, a unanimous five stars.

I ordered online the shawerma plate for lunch. The order was ready as promised and the lady was super nice but the food let me down. The beef was too salty and the portion was small. The plate came with rice which was good and a small salad.

Pita House is a Clean and casual restaurant. They are family friendly. You can dine in or take out and they do catering. I was early for lunch so not many people in restaurant. They have a Lovely hand painted mural of a Jordan valley & mountains on one of their walls. It has been Family owned since 2011. I had their Melt in your mouth tender & Delicious beef gyro & tzatziki sauce served with house salad of fresh crunchy veggies with house vinaigrette dressing. The portions are Generous. They have beef, lamb or chicken gyro meat for your preference. I highly recommend their food!

It was a Monday evening, and we didn't want to cook. I had seen this place on Yelp. I love Mediterranean food, and this place had several good reviews. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We ordered the chicken swarma with rice pilaf, hummus, and Taziki. Everything is made fresh, so we sat and enjoyed our tea while we waited. It was a bit quiet in the restaurant, but the chairs were comfortable. The food is a good value. The chicken flavorful, the hummus tasty. The menu is full of delights. I wanted to try the grape leaves, but they were out. The owner said, "You need to come earlier." That's a pretty good recommendation that they make things fresh everyday. This is a nice mom-and-pop restaurant you feel good eating at.

    Baklava!!!! Amazing

Flame and skewers move over..! The flavor and quality of food here is amazing! The woman who took our order is the owner I believe, and I think a relative is the cook, just based on how they were communicating . It did take some time to come out, but when it did... it was well worth the wait. I'll definitely be back!

receipt says 16.95, but if u look on the menu it is 13.95. Not a big deal but if it is to you then keep an eye on your receipt.
    Raul Z.

Chicken kebab is what I ordered and it tasted very very good. Only thing however is they charged 16.95 instead of the 13.95 it was listed for on the menu. I didn't notice until I drove 5 hours back home. So just keep an eye on the total. Other than that the atmosphere felt very homey which I liked cause it made me feel like I was going to eat very authentic food, which I did. The man is very nice too if you speak to him. Doesn't like Pasadena weather tho.

I wished I liked the food we ordered more. The vibe of the restaurant is so hole-like and inviting and the owners are so sweet so there's no problem with the restaurant itself. The food was alright... the meat was slightly underseasoned and kinda greasy and the rice had the consistency of riceroni. The hummus was so good and we got alright pita. The portions are small for the price I paid and the lamb tasted like beef. In total I paid around 36 dollars for two plates. I'm sorry to the owners for this review as you were very welcoming.

    Lamb gyro

Wow just wow!! The food at this place blew us away. We were served by the owner who was very nice. We wiped the plates clean!!!

A gyro with only meat and very little of it. It's a rip off for the price.
    Todd W.

Decent place, but the food is a joke and the value is horrible. To go pita and salad was 20 bucks for nothing. Literally just a small amount if meat in a wrap with nothing else. A Greek salad with only lettuce. I'm angry about the rip off for something you can buy elsewhere with better quality at half the price.

Plus the Greek Beer was a treat as well. Recently it a friend asked me to meet her for lunch at the downtown Athena's one that I had brought to the Rosedale location. I was excited about the lunch date and to get my favorite gyro and maybe the Flaming Cheese appetizer! The restaurant's parking was a bit difficult to find but after I parked I walked in to be greeted by 2 old chairs with a small table; as I didn't see my friend I sat down to wait. A few minutes later my friend called out- it appears I had entered from the rear! after moving to the front bypassing an assortment of old furniture loaded with antique dishes, bowls pitchers and vases Wr saw each other. There were about 4 other groups seated and eating no one fretted us so I assumed we just found our own table. After about five minute wait I told my friend I guess we order at the counter so we went up to order . I was disappointed most of my favorites were not listed so I ordered the Chicago Gyro after reading the reviews on Yelp . My friend ordered the lamb platter. The food arrived fairly quickly we had gotten our own drinks ( no Greek beer) I hate to say but I was highly disappointed in the meat it was not at all like what I used to get and the seasoning was almost none existent. The pita was excellent along with the sauce, fries were good as well. My friend loved hers do maybe it's just me, however I am not sure I will go again. I'm not a fan of shaved meat at the old location the beef and lamb were cubed and filled with flavor which was sadly lacking in the shaved beef I got. Again this could just be me as others have raved about the good especially the Chicago Gyro. As far as portions you get a lot; I did not finish my fries as well as the Gyro.

Definitely worth a try if you're downtown looking for a delicious filling meal.
