Amazing food with such a low price!! My combo meal was only 8 dollars and it filled me up with plentiful toppings of meat and veggies. You can order a normal bowl, which is the same as mine but with only one choice of protein instead of two for only 7 dollars. The sauces are delicious but the red sauce is really spicy so I recommend asking for only a little red sauce if it's your first time. The lamb is super delicious and definitely my favorite out of the three options (lamb, chicken, and falafel). My bowl has lamb, falafel, red and white sauce, rice, and broccoli, lettuce, and onions were the side veggies. The owner is brusque but never unfriendly. You may feel a little rushed while ordering so make sure you have your order planned out beforehand. However, you just can't beat the quality of the food for the price. Ate here today because a lot of the Amherst restaurants are closed due to the pandemic's effects. Many restaurants with overhead, such as leases in buildings are having issues finding staff, drawing customers at the universities who now work/learn from home ... or have had to cut back hours because the price of meat is sky high. Because Halal Carts have very little overhead, they can operate more inexpensively with little overhead or staffing costs. The truck is pretty much a one man show. The worker is pretty gruff ... not at all a friendly chap whose demeanor is similar to the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. I will say, he is an honest man ... I overpaid and he called me back to hand me the change I overpaid. Because it's just him on the grill, be prepared to wait a bit. I ordered a lamb gyro and from order to getting it took about 10-15 minutes with 5 others in line. It's all cooked to order on a griddle. For those who have not had Halal food, its a mish mash of meat and veggies, cooked in oil on a griddle, mixed up and covered in white sauce. COVERED in sauce! The $6 Gyro I would not recommend. Within seconds, the pita bread soaked through and turned to mush, making it impossible to eat. The $7 bowl is better because you don't have to worry about a sloppy mess when the pita falls apart. The salty meat goes well with the creamy white sauce. It's probably not as healthy as it looks because its covered in basically a white mayonnaise sauce and served over rice. But damn ... does it taste good! As a benefit, true Halal meat is sourced as humanely as meat can be sourced and the animal was raised/slaughtered relatively painlessly, or so the story goes. I had the lamb, which wasn't quite as good as I had in Greece, but better than most fast foods ... chicken and falafel are also choices. (Or combo) Halal food is on every corner in NYC, in a similar cart/truck, but I had not expected to see (and smell!) a Halal 'cart' in Amherst. Overall, the bowl is the way to go ... and for $7, you'll leave full and satisfied. Parking is metered street parking ... and they do give tickets. Shame on the town of Amherst for charging for parking. I am sure the hassle keeps folks from coming in to visit the businesses/restaurants downtown. The meters only accept change, not credit cards! So many restaurants are struggling/closing ... you'd think they'd offer free meter parking to let the town's businesses get back on their feet. read more

This one hardly needs a review because there's always a line and for good reason. We are obsessed with the yellow rice, and usually get the plate with chicken or falafel. An awesome meal. The sauces are super and the hots are very spicy! Love the pickled vegetables too. A local staple that I hope will remain for a long time. read more

Even at 3pm on a weekday, never-ending waves of young people appear out of nowhere from a nearby alleyway, and most of them make huge orders for 5-10 people. We were in town just walking around due to it being a gorgeous day. We were a bit hungry but didn't want a sit down restaurant and so I yelped and found the Halal Cart with 5 star yelp rating... well we decided to give it a shot! I got a lamb/beef rice plate and husband got a lamb gyro - everything was DELICIOUS and hot and fresh and no complaints! The price is amazing too - I think we spent $10-$11 for both items - and of note CASH ONLY. We can't wait to go back - carts are always a crap shoot but this guy is the BEST. I went to Art School in NYC and every day I had food like this. This guy (Sieed) is the real deal. In the Avengers movie when Iron Man got everyone to eat NYC street Persian food it was this exactly. This is the closest thing you can get to the Halal Guys in western mass. Portions are a little bit smaller than I am used to, but their red sauce has more flavor and depth, and not so much of a "I'm gonna die in the bathroom later" feel. The guys there are super friendly.
