What a place! I walked in to check it out because I am a bit of a hummus/falafel enthusiast. I was greeted at the door, when I realized I didn't have any cash on me. Joseph, I believe was his name, was so very kind and immediately gave me a sample and took my order, offering to have me pay for it later. He was very generous and kind. I got a falafel pita sandwich with a lot of yummy sauces/taziki. It was so delicious!!! Best falafel sandwich I've had since I was in Israel two years ago. AMAZING Food and service!!! I just tried this restaurant for the first time and was really blown away I felt I had to write a review! Not only was the food delicious (I got the falafel platter with side of pita chips and babghanoush) but the service was above and beyond!! The moment I walked in they offered free food while I waited for my order to be ready. This was already super nice!! Then when I got home and had started eating, I got a call from them saying they had forgotten to include sauces. I said it was totally fine and not to worry but they asked my address and literally DROVE AND DROPPED OFF THE SAUCES even tho I'm in a different town! Overall an amazing experience. read more

My son introduced us to this middle eastern place and we love it. Again, there are so many good places to eat in Amherst but we try to make it here often enough. I don't think I have had a bad meal here. I have tried the falafel and chicken, even the fries are good. My middle son is very picky and has a sensory diet so he gets the falafel and pita bread and nothing else - no veggies, sauce, nothing extra. The falafel must be good if you can eat it "dry" and it still tastes good. They don't understand him but they do get a kick out of him. This was an awesome surprise. We were stopping in Amherst for lunch on a drive from north of Boston to the Cooperstown area. We thought about getting pizza but everyone liked the idea of Middle Eastern. After getting lost walking up and down Pleasant Street for about 15 minutes, we finally find Pita Pockets tucked off the main road about 100 feet. There were about 4-6 people eating and one person ordering in front of us so we had ample time to check the menu out and decide. The person helping us, either the owner or his son, was so friendly and couldn't have been nicer. He gave each of us (5) falafels with hummus to try that were out of this world. Our youngest son had chicken fingers :) while the rest of us had chicken kabobs. Each of them were prepared with different ingredients or spiciness, but were all super delicious. The chicken was super tender and all the accompaniments created a super tasty combination. I said to my wife that I worried that there were too many, but after tasting the pita, they all just added to the delicious flavor. We wanted a few pieces of syrian bread to go and the owner treated us. I can't recommend this place enough. If I went to school here, I'd be here at least once a week, if not more. My 13 year old daughter said that if she goes to Amherst, she'll be here every Friday for Falafel Friday's. The food is wonderful and the owners were so warm, friendly and generous. read more

I always went with the spicy sauce on my pockets because I liked the extra kick, but what burned within me even more intensely was my love for their AMAZING customer service. Pita Pocket's management is warm, friendly, and accountable. Patrons are treated and valued as people, not just customers. The wait times are short, too :) Okay most of you all stopped reading by now right? Good. So I also went out on a date there once with this guy I was briefly seeing at the time and I don't think he ever talked to me again afterwards (if your reading this, good RIDDANCE CONNOR !!! This is a family business and they have been doing falafel in the Middle East for 30 years. They know what they are doing, love what they do and offer everything at an insane price. Everything is made by themselves, fresh ad authentic. I'm a hummus fan and I've never had such flavorful hummus! Not to mention it's at Amherst! Their baklava are made of heavenly layers of honey crisps with baked to over-baked pistachio and come with four kinds. The traditional (diamond shaped) is my favorite. The owner told me they use baklava to keep people's mouth busy while they wait for the dinner. The young owner makes friends the minute people walk in. He'll let you taste everything and will tell you stories about them--how it's made and how it's made differently at their places. You can also customize your order, from ingredients to spicy levels. Falafel here is made 100% with chickpeas and you can taste the difference. But the real bomb is their pita chips. I can't say how good it is. It makes other pita chips seem miserable. Please try. You gotta try. I'm gonna be a regular. So I came back and tried more. Gyro is filled with smoky, juicy beef and AMAZING tzatziki sauce. And you must try their kibbeh football. It hot, meaty, and yum. What's not to love about this place?! Stopped for lunch because of the positive Yelp reviews, and we agree with all of them. The falafel-which look like donuts-are delicious. When I asked the very friendly guy which he'd recommend-falafel or gyro-he gave us two falafel with hummus to try! They are crunchy with a very nice texture. The hummus is creamy and tasty. I had the spicy falafel pita which was yummy! We shared a tzaziki with pita. The tzaziki has a nice consistency and was delicious. What was also charming about the place is the guy behind the counter who is personable, friendly, and clearly wants his customers to ha e a great experience. I had been in the mood lately for some Mediterranean food and decided not to deprive my taste buds from it any longer. Quite a few people had recommended this place to me so I decided to come and see if it could live up to all the praise it was getting. When I first arrived, there was a small line but it quickly grew. One of the workers was handing out hot falafel samples to people in line which I thought was very cool and was almost tempted to get falafel instead of the chicken I had decided on before arriving. The worker also seemed to know everyone that walked in and what they were planning to order which made for a more personal experience than I'm used to in a fast-food like restaurant. My chicken wrap was delicious and I overall had a really good experience and I would definitely recommend this place! It is cash only though and I only realized that when it was time for me to pay! They do have a cash only sign but it's near where you pay, not where you order...so I think if the sign was moved, it would alert patrons sooner! read more

Not only is the food FANTASTIC and (according to my Middle Eastern-origined friends) incredibly authentic, but the family that owns the store genuinely cares about their customers, cracks jokes with them, and loves to give out free samples. For Amherst, the food is also really affordable. Literally the only complaint that I have is that it's a pain in the butt to find if you don't know where it is, because the storefront is blocked by the UU church. It has been nearly a year since my last Pita Pockets review, and I seriously cannot recommend a place more. In this past year, my partner and I became regulars. We learned that the aforementioned friendly gentleman's name is Yussef, and we quickly became friends. Yussef will go to great lengths to make sure you're happy with your food - every time I introduced a friend to Pita Pockets, Yussef would listen attentively to what they liked and would readily give them recommendations. When I wanted to switch it up from my usual falafel pocket, Yussef would tailor a completely new pocket for me (which we called "Surprise Pocket"). He also let me try new creations and desserts that weren't on the menu yet! My partner and I decided to move back to the Boston area at the end of summer and we shared one last turbo pocket to say our goodbyes - it was the most bittersweet turbo pocket I ever had.
