Pita Pockets small but cozy interior

A little off the beaten path - that is, on a side street off of Main - is this small unprepossessing eatery. But what a pleasant find! Terrific falafels, gyros, baba ganoush, hummus, kabobs, and more - all delicious and served in a friendly welcoming manner. The proprietors are Syrian and they give these popular dishes a different - but good! - twist. For desserts, they have baklava of course, but also try their Syrian harissa (yes, harissa - not the chili paste, but in Syria it's the name of a semolina and rose water-scented syrup dessert). I had their gyro plate and it was very tasty; my wife's falafel pita wrap was equally good - nice fluffy and crisp falafels and a smoky baba ganoush; and my daughter really enjoyed the chicken kabob wrap. We'll definitely be back!

Got a wrap, salad, falafel, and baklava. All were really good. The customer service was next level good. Owner threw in some extra desserts for us. Would def return when/if in the area.

Tiny falafel snack with pickled onions while waiting for our pickup order!

Nicest people! Great falafels and pitas and super nice staff. Got a little snack while we waited for our pickup order (we got there super early) and had a nice chat. We eat out on a budget (once a month, maybe) and have eaten both here and at their Northampton location!

In heaven while watching the Manchester City game on the teli.

"HELLO MY FRIEND" the gentlemen greeted me with an exciting and welcoming tone. This was easily one of my favorite spots to eat at Amherst, with a short walk from campus. The food was priced right, the ingredients were freshly prepared, and every bite is packed with flavor. Coming to eat here was a little indulgent for me, so I made sure to treat myself. You cannot go wrong with the combo plate. With a few slices of bread, garlic sauce, hummus, and tzatziki, I cannot think of other enjoyable culinary experiences. I highly buy the $5 babaganoosh to have with your meal, and take the rest home with your left over bread pieces. BOMB.COM

Even with the long wait times (granted I got there on a busy day. Plus that's actually good, since…read moreit means it's actively being prepped (seal of freshness)) the food is so good that even if you had to wait, you will feel greatly rewarded with the food graciously served. Recommendations are Chicken Shawarma (though any variety should be worth it) and Maqluba Rice. Get it, you won't regret it! p.s. - The food truck is now located by the skate park in Turners/Great Falls. That's near the River... to the Sea!

The Mohawk Falafel & Shawarma food truck recently located to a big parking lot on Chapman Street…read morerecently. This popular food truck serves up sandwiches & platters (falafel, shawarma, kabob), gyros, fries, hummus, grape leaves, baba ghanouj, meat & spinach pies, and baklava. I stopped by the Mohawk Shawarma Grill recently for dinner takeout. There was a small crowd of people standing near and in front of the trailer waiting for their orders. There was only one person working the trailer, so it took a while to place my order (7 minutes) and for my food to be ready (20 minutes). Once my food was all set, I enjoyed it in my car parked on the street. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich ($7.99 plus tax) and a Gyro ($7.99 plus tax), which were both grilled to order wraps with tasty fillings. The shawarma sandwich was filled with tender pieces of marinated chicken, tomato, pickles, fries, and garlic. The gyro was filled with gyro meat slices, tomato, onion, fried potato, and tzatziki sauce. I will definitely have to stop by again for some kabobs next time!
