Delicious Gelato in the heart of Fells Point: you want this on a hot summer's night (or day)! When it comes to frozen treats in Baltimore, Pitango Gelato can't be missed on Yelp. So, naturally, I visited Pitango on a hot and humid summer night - and, as expected, it hit the spot! Despite the inevitable crowd at the popular Gelato spot on a weekend night, the kind servers offered to let me sample a few of their flavors before making my decision (I mean...I take my Gelato decisions VERY seriously!). Although everything I sampled was quite delicious (namely, the Pistacio, the Chocolate Hazelnut, and the Chocolate Chip flavors), I opted for a scoop of the Chocolate Chip, and for a scoop of the Chocolate Hazelnut in a cone (you're allowed 2 flavors in a cone, or 3 flavors in a cup). WOW, the consistency was perfect: it was light, soft and creamy; not icy or "melty," at all. The flavor was amazing, as well - the Chocolate Hazelnut was very rich, and reminded me of Nutella, while the (vanilla) Chocolate Chip was so simple, yet so perfect, in it's way. Yes, it was phenomenal; yes, it was delectable...my only problem? I wished they had given more! Okay, confession: I have a VERY big sweet tooth...but still - the portion did seem rather small to me, and considering the price, I just wished they had been a little more generous in their "scoops"! Regardless - I really do value quality of quantity, and I'm so pleased I got to enjoy some of this delicious Gelato. Made in house and kept at the perfect temp, the taste and textures of the gelato were exceptional. My partner remarked at how much she enjoyed the fresh, not too sweet taste of the raspberry and how it had pieces of raspberry in it. This is my favorite spot in Baltimore to get some AMAZING gelato. The flavors change daily, but my favorites are the chocolate hazelnut (tastes just like ferrero rocher!), which pairs really well with the Pistachio. In the summer, definitely try the Mojito if you're a fan of the drink -- it is so refreshing!! Passion fruit is good, Earl Grey was nice and light, and Cardamom had a nice kick to it. The service here is great, they let you try as many flavors as you'd like, and the portion sizes are pretty big too. The store is on the small side, but there's plenty of seating outdoors in the scenic Fells Point area, so I love walking down to the waterfront to eat there instead. This gelato lactated at the heart of fell's point offers so many good flavors and memories! My favorite ice cream flavors there are black tea, green tea and sur del lago (chocolate). Their ice cream is not too sweet but full of flavor. You feel the creaminess in their gelato and awesome freshness in the sorbet. The flavors here are really bright and fresh--they really taste like whatever it is you've asked for. I would go back to try a bunch more of the fruit flavors, as the raspberry was a real favorite. Note that you can get multiple flavors in a single serving, so don't limit yourself. Be warned that there's not much seating and the front door sticks a bit. Staff seemed understandably a bit overwhelmed but were trying to be helpful, even with multiple toddlers running around and shrieking. I would say this is a place where you need to go in with a plan to get in and get out, and please don't be "that guy" who asks to try six flavors before choosing something. Insanely good. I think this is some of the best gelato and sorbet I've ever had. I had the local strawberry and lemon sorbet cup the last time I visited. The lemon is out of this world.
