I was conservative and has a combination of pistachio and strawberry. The price was expensive but the quality was excellent. After Pizza at Bop, a sweet treat was in order. Didn't want something to weigh me down but wanted to be satisfied - Hello Pitango. They have about 20 flavors from orange dark chocolate to Black Tea. Wasn't sure how I was going to choose A small of Mojito and Banana did it. The mojito was light on the tongue with specks of mint. Not too limey but just that right quick taste of a sweet tart. That one is actually worth a full cup. However I love bananas and this one reminds me of freezing a banana until it is just frozen, then blending it with a little cream. Just right for banana lovers. The space is fresh with coffee options and pastries. Service was good also - Can I take ya'll back home with me and place you on a little corner in town? In my option, Pitango has just enough of flavors, not too few and not too many. I love their black tea and green tea gelato. Their Cardamom was my favorite and I would highly recommend. The texture was thick and creamy, and the taste was natural rather than artificial​. Since I am a gelato person, I can't comment on their sorbets but they are there. The staff is very friendly and you can try any many flavors as you want. The price is a bit steep, 2 scope for about $7. Still, I think it is worth it, so much so, I would go out of my way to take some lactose pills to have it. read more

To all my fellow lactose intolerant folks, grab your lactaid pills and come on down to Pitango Gelato! Despite how lactose intolerant I am, I have tried MANY gelato places in NY, LA and SF. However, Pitango Gelato might be my favorite gelato place! As soon as you walk in, the smell is incredible. It's a mix of coffee and gelato smell. What more can you ask for? Everyone here is super friendly and you can try as many flavors as you want. For a regular size, you can choose up to 2 flavors for $5.65. I think this is the only downside, I think it's a little pricey for how small the regular size is. I wish they had a kiddie size but I don't think I've seen one here. I have tried almost all the flavors except for fruit flavors (I don't like fruits in my ice cream or gelato). Gelato uses more milk than cream and churned slower than ice creams so in my opinion, I feel like you can taste the underlying flavor more! Here are some of my favorite flavors: 1. Cardamon - this spice is a staple in Eastern cuisines and oh man, the fragrance that cardamon gives off. I freaking LOVE it! This is my ultimate favorite, it's basically a flavor bomb in your mouth - minty, spicy and herbal all at the same time. 2. Black Tea - they use Ceylon black tea for this and it gives a very citrusy aroma and for those Boba loving folks out there, this is a MILD imitation of milk tea in a gelato form. Delicious! 3. Bacio - this is apparently Italian for "Kiss" and is the name of a chocolate confection made with milk chocolate, hazelnuts and dark chocolate. The smell of hazelnut that you get when you take a bite of this gelato - amazing. I like to pair this with their Fior Di Latte gelato. 4. Fior Di Latte - known as "Flower of Milk" in Italian, this is a simple milk and cream gelato. You would think this is too plain or basic but I think it's the ratio of milk and cream that Pitango uses that makes it so creamy and almost custardy. I am waiting for the day that they have the Star Anise flavor. They have it on the website but I have yet to see it in person! Overall, great service and amazing gelato. read more

Came here during my visit to Baltimore and absolutely loved it! The lady working just made the experience 10x better. She was personable, knew everything about everything, and gave stellar recommendations on what to try. I tried an affogato with sipping hot chocolate and pistachio gelato. The sipping chocolate was amazing- a single-origin Vidama chocolate from the Ivory Coast with organic cane sugar. It was amazing. I was also informed that the pistachios they get are from the base of a volcano in Italy...what? You've got to be legit if you are getting pistachios from a VOLCANO. At first I wasn't sure whether I should get the almond gelato or strawberry sorbet, but mixing the 2 was the best possible recommendation. Apparently, I happened upon the staff's favorite combination. The gelato was milky and rich while the sorbet was fresh and slightly tart. The 2 balanced each other so well and made sure I didn't get bored. The mojito sherbet that my girlfriend got was a hit as well! When I drive a race car, I don't waste any time refueling. I'm a "Pit & Go" kind of driver. That's what wins me races and allows me to spray champagne all over myself and do other typically chauvinistic traditions at the end of each Sunday afternoon. But all that aside, I love Gelato, and I've had it many times in Italy. And this stuff really, really does match up decently. What to get: Rhubarb flavour, Salted Caramel flavour, or any really. Why: It's f***ing good. Morano Gelato (Boston and NH) is the best I've found in the USA, and there's some good stuff up in Toronto and elsewhere, but Pitango is easily the best Gelato chain in North America, with every single location churning out perfection made in the typical Italian style. I loved this place a lot, and have been here now many times, every time I'm in Baltimore usually (especially if I'm with a girl). However, I'm only giving it a 4, because: (a) sometimes the service is downright rude and at best, indifferent. not all, but some. (b) some of the flavours aren't as good as the others. (c) the prices are so shockingly high that it makes me bang my head on the wall. which then gets me arrested. (d) portion sizes are fairly small considering the price. For these reasons, I'll stick with a 4 for this location, although in general this chain gets a 5, and this - taste wise - is as good as any, if not better. But if you love Gelato, or have never had it - don't accept what most American places call "gelato". It isn't. The real Italian stuff is here. And I don't feel like listening to any Salsa or Merengue right now. Put-Tango on instead. read more

I had a regular cup of pistachio and hazelnut gelato, and both flavors were amazing. The hazelnut especially was nutty and smooth. I LOVE PITANGO! I always make it a point to drop by when I am in Baltimore. Yes, it's just that amazing! Pitango offers a variety of flavors as well as amazing beverages if you're just not in the mood for gelato. If you're debating between a few flavors, you can mix and match a few of them. The regular size allows you to pick two flavors and the large size will give you up to 3 flavors. The store itself is small and has a few tables and window seats. A go to place for ice cream lovers. They have a large selection that are grouped in two groups: fruity and others. I normally like to have one of each in my cup, but in this case I got the pistachio and the black tea. Pistachio is normally a hit or miss, but it was definitely a hit here. So creamy and the flavors came out really well. I wish more placea would do tea flavors since it works so well. There are so many coffee type ice creams out there. The black tea was just light and not strong. Two scoops/flavors for small and three for large. Small might look small but once you start to eat it, it was plentiful since I was so rich. Ok. The gelato here is absolutely stellar. Pitango is my go to dessert spot in Baltimore, especially after dinner in the Fells area. My Pitango experience tonight began when my friend and I decided to grab gelato to conclude our chill Sunday. We arrived at Pitango after easily finding parking on Thames Street (they also have spots storefront, all of which were taken that night). The line consisted of around 10 customers all eagerly awaiting their nighttime treat. To our delight, the line moved incredibly fast and within 3 minutes it was our turn to order. SO SPEEDY! Service was not only fast but also incredibly attentive - we were able to try 4-5 flavors before picking which ones we actually wanted, making us very happy customers! In the end, I ordered a regular cup with raspberry and chocolate hazelnut - delish! The creaminess of the chocolate hazelnut complemented raspberry's tartness. So fresh! Pro-tip: all the Pitango gelato flavors are listed on their online website with beautifully articulated descriptions of each flavor. In store, they post their daily flavors on the wall. Not sure which gelato options are vegan? All their vegan flavors (and there are lots of tasy ones!) are clearly denoted on the wall with a green sticker. To top off our experience, it was incredibly easy to find seating to enjoy our gelato. Pitango offers plenty of indoor tables and chairs, or if you prefer, there are 4 benches outside the store. I'm not sure what the big fuss is about the price. The cost is not much more than Cold Stone or Haagen-Daz. I am happy to pay a small premium for a quality product. I was happy with my Coconut and Black Tea flavors. It's hard to imagine that there is less fat in gelato than in typical ice cream. The thick consistency and rich flavors come through with each spoonful. A regular cup is surprisingly filling and the density of the gelato is impressive. Feel like I'm the odd one out with my 3/5 star review...but anyways, here we go... I've been here 4 times throughout the past year, and their gelato isn't that special. As a reference, my favorite gelato is Dolcezza (in Washington DC and they sell pints at Whole Foods). Overall, Pitango's gelato is ok. My go-to has been the Stracciatella (vanilla chocolate chip). The other flavors aren't as good, and their fruit sorbet flavors are disappointing. They are waay too sweet and not refreshing. They just leave me feeling very thirsty for water. Also, their gelato melts really fast, so you have to practically inhale it before it all melts. Also, INSANELY overpriced! Almost $7 for a small, mediocre gelato? Are you kidding me? I'd rather spend that money on a pint of delicious Dolcezza gelato at the grocery store. Anyways, if you're craving ice cream or gelato in Fells Point, my recommendation is to walk one block (to Broadway Street Market) and go to Taharka Brothers. read more

I visited Pitango after a very filling brunch so I have to admit this review is not based on their gelato (yes, I know this is a gelato establishment...) I opted for a hot drink because it was snowing outside (yet my friends still wanted gelato) and I was stuffed! 4 stars is largely based on service. The girl behind the counter indulged our group by letting everyone try samples of flavors they were curious about and was very polite and explained different menu items if there was an confusion. I got a marrochino which was half sipping chocolate and half espresso. Interesting and tasty! My friends really enjoyed their gelato, they had some very interesting flavors like cardamom-- I tried that one from a friend and it was delicious! Affogato is great! You get a generous scoop of a gelato of your choice and your choice of hot chocolate or espresso. Hot chocolate affogato is delicious! Their hot chocolate is amazing! You really can't go wrong with your choices like hazelnut or chocolate, but recently boyfriend and I tried cinnamon gelato with hot chocolate and it was SO GOOOD. Give it a try! I do love their gelato, but I always keep coming back to their sorbet! I'm a huge sucker for sorbet and they have great sorbet! You can definitely tell they use real fruit! (and they do pride themselves in using all fresh ingredients for both gelato and sorbet). I love their balance of sweet and tartness, and I love tart so I love how palate cleansing sorbet is! It's always a struggle trying to pick 2 of the flavors! I love lemon, tangerine, MOJITO, WHITE GRAPEFRUIT, PASSIONFRUIT - you can tell I really like tart haha. Those are the ones that I've tried so far. Their pomegranite is kind of meh to me, but definitely feel free to try flavors! I just wanted an Americano because I just had a huge lunch and needed a little boost for digestion. The barista asked if I wanted cream in my Americano and we joked because I kindly said "no, why would anyone destroy it like that." I could tell she appreciated the fine taste of espresso. It opened up in 2007 before Fells Point became all super hip as it is now. Can you believe that's over ten years ago?! There is now another Pitango location in Fells Point, walking distance actually, but it's a Cafe location meaning it has foods like avocado toasts and pastries etc. This OG location is your typical gelato shop with not so typical flavors but always typically delicious. I love love love Pitango Gelato and am so happy to have it in multiple spots in DC. Don't always expect the same flavors when coming in as flavors rotate quite frequently. My personal favorite is black tea and raw honey. Those two together. Mmmm mmmm mmmmph!!! I also noticed that this location has Vigilante coffee which is from Hyattsville, MD. I love their cold brew. Also, sipping chocolate is available during cooler months. But regardless of any weather, Pitango Gelato is always a good idea :) read more

I've always been a fan of Pitango and I've gone to a few locations in the DC area. Since I was in Baltimore for the weekend, I decided to go check out this location with friends. I sampled a few flavors and decided to go with the mango and passion fruit sorbet. Their sorbets are actually a lot less icy and has more of an ice cream texture than other sorbets I've ever had. It's creamy and has actual pieces of fruit. I tried some other flavors that were tasty as well - mojito and rhubarb. The pineapple did not have a strong enough flavor so I wasn't a fan. You can get a regular size (2 flavors) or a large size (3 flavors). It's a bit expensive but handmade gelato is expensive everywhere in America unless you go to Italy. This is one of the best gelato places I've tried. They use really good ingredients and their signature is single source chocolate, which I tried in the vanilla chocolate chip, and it was delicious! All the flavors I have tried so far tasted decadent without leaving an oily feel on my tongue. Everything had a very clean aftertaste.
