My favorite restaurant in Peoria. Great service and the food is amazing. I love their hummus and pitas.

As a previous rating said - the chicken shawarma is actually just cut up grilled chicken. The portion is sooo small and apparently the lettuce and pickles are supposed to make up for it...but they don't. I spent $12.65 and didn't even get a drink. Good thing I ordered a side of hummus as the 3 oz of chicken wouldn't have held me over til dinner. Quite disappointing. I. Love. This. Place! Lebanese food is my comfort food, and I pick up Pita's whenever I've had a long day or need a pick-me-up. They're gyros are a great value, the meat is top-notch, and the bread is soft and fresh. Their tabbouleh is my absolute favorite of all the local places, and Rose is so sweet to me and my little ones. My 2 year old always begs to see her and have a piece of her baklava! :) read more

I have been here twice and I have not been disappointed either time. I ordered the veggie shawarma and the Greek salad, and both were fresh and delicious. It is true that the sandwich pita is more like a tortilla, but this doesn't bother me at all. The pitas are delicious and fresh-tasting. You can tell they were made in house that day. I also ordered the falafel on one occasion, and it was delicious as well. This place has a wide assortment of vegetarian options, which I greatly appreciate. I will come here again and again. The price is a bit higher than what you might expect, but the pitas are large and I always have enough for leftovers the next day. Recommended! read more

I just ate here for the first time. I ordered the falafel in a wrap and the hummus. It was delicious and huge (as everyone else has commented on)! The owners were super nice, very hospitable and gregarious (making sure we enjoyed our meal). They invited us to go to the back to look at the kitchen where they have a brick oven. They make almost everything from scratch including the falafel and pita bread. All ingredients are fresh and not made from dried spices. I liked it much better than Haddad's where it's questionable where they make the food as they heat it up in the microwave and the food sits in a cooler with no kitchen in site. My husband and I went to Pita's during off-hours so service was very quick. However, my husband tells me that lunch time is usually packed so expect a 15 minute wait for the food. read more

Pita's has a nice variety of Mediterranean dishes. They have been at this location for years. They offer several different types of burgers. I have eaten their beef kebabs, shawarma, and spicy gyros before. Just not a fan of their style of cooking. There is a heavy presence of nutmeg and/or rosemary. However, what sets them apart from other Mediterranean places is their amazing Zataar. It is so hard to find this item locally and although simple to make, they give you a large portion and it is delicious. Highly recommend the Zataar here. Other than that, the rest is okay. read more

Try the falafel. It was crunchy on the outside, a little soft in the middle, and came with delicious tahini sauce. Falafel is easy to mess-up, but this place got it right. And the woman working there was very nice. I will definitely go back there. read more

Awesome shwerma marinated meat but I am more accustomed to the traditional bread. This is more of a burrito wrap but it still has a very good defined taste. Fresh cut fries are just a bit cooked but I prefer the crunch so I was quite happy. I will return to try more items! read more

I have never seen anything good about Peoria, especially when it comes to good food, this place is full of nasty chains and people here are so boring thats where they take their buisness to. Pita's was the ONLY place I would ever eat out in Peoria...only place worth visiting this wretched BORING ****hole of a city/town whatever it is. Good food, Good quality, loved their gyros, chicken shawarma, they have the best hummus in town, LOVE their kibbeh and falafel, and enjoyed the fresh salads they would make me in the back. The two sisters that run this place are very friendly, sweet and will basically make you whatever you like. The only reason I come back to this place is because of the limited halal options in this town. The prices are too expensive. The shawerma is not well stuffed with meat so even the large is not filling! The place is called Mediterranean Pita but they use crappy tortilla for the wraps!! It's a hole-in-the-wall gyro place for sure, but the Lebanese dishes are as close to Lebanon as it gets, specifically the zataar, an absolute MUST! They had their own oven shipped from Italy and fire each pita fresh to order, absolutely delicious! I always order the garlic chicken gyro, it's melt-in-your-mouth delicious with their special garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, chicken all wrapped in their freshly baked pita wrap. The pitas are not your average thick Chicago style. Instead they are paper thin and incredibly flavorful. In my opinion, you really get a mouthful of the actual pita ingredients and not just the bread as you would in a Chicago gyro. Anything with their pita bread will be sure to please, however some of the other dishes weren't quite as satisfying. The tabouleh has often been on the dry side but still holds its own. And the salads were nothing more than I could throw together at home, so I wouldn't recommend either of these. If you come here, get something hot and fresh! The service is generally slow because of often being understaffed by the owner (Habib) and his wife and sons are extremely friendly and put in the proper care to make sure your food is fresh. Always worth the wait, and this place is often very crowded. My only wish is that they were in Chicago instead of Peoria and that there was more seating. But it's always a nice treat when I go to Peoria and no gyro in Chicago can top Pita's Mediterranean. read more

Tried Pita's for the first time today. Ordered spicy Gyro and Lamb Pie. Summary: I probably wouldn't get the lamb pie again. Spicy Gyro was superb. I'm not acquainted well enough with the Mediterranean cuisine to know if what I enjoyed was true to the culture - I just know it was very enjoyable. The restaurant seems pretty simple and orderly, no frills but nice, the owner took and brought out my order and she was very pleasant. Details on the food: The lamb pie was just too dry and simple for my tastes and not a lot there for the price. Spicy Gyro was noticeably different (and better) from the typical Gyros I've had. My typical memory of a Gyro is a fairly chewy flatbread loaded with lots of Gyro meat and topped with some onions and tahini sauce. Usually decent but overwhelming with the meat and bread. This was different. It resembles a burrito, and the lightweight bread was a welcome change. The amount of meat was ample but not overdone. There was a decent amount of tahini and the pickled jalepenos and other vegetables had a very balanced texture and flavor combination with a decent kick. read more

The family that runs this restaurant are very friendly and accommodating. The pita bread is fluffy and delicious - the best I've had. My fav is the falafel pita and my husband's is the steak and cheese. I live fairly close to this place which is a good thing because when I crave my pita, it's only a block away and on my way home from work. The fries are very good as well. We visited Pitas wanting Mediterranean food. I order the large gyro. To start the bread is made fresh to order. The gyro meat is not your standard gyro meat from the run of the mill gyro shop. It was a much more delicious flavor. My wife ordered falafel with hummus. We were not disappointed. The hummus was the best I've had. I have eaten here a couple times in the past month because it came highly recommended. I would say you must want a wrap because everything is made this way. The grilled chicken is really good and so are the breaded fries. Both served hot and fresh. The gyro not so much. It would be something I would expect from a food kiosk at a busy airport. First I want to say that the owner/manager who runs this place is very friendly and helpful. The place was about half full at 1:30 on a Saturday which is a good sign. Nondescript place and very clean. From there I'm not so sure. Gyro wrap, 3 falafel, small Mediterranean salad, water... $14. Meat not fresh from a "spit", the wrap (why not a pita) not inspiring, tzatziki sauce flavorless...did not taste like cucumber. I'm used to falafel that is vibrant green inside...this was very brown and cake-like and had a distinct flavor of nutmeg I think...too much for my preferences altho beautifully fried. The salad was plain iceberg which is OK but had little else...where is the cucumber, green pepper, pepperocini, etc. Had a bit of tomato and about a teaspoon of feta crumbles and sliced black olive...wtf. How about calamata olives and chunks of feta...would be worth the almost $4 it cost. AND all served on disposable plastic rather than plates and silverware...for this level of service the meal should be $8.95 not $14 since you order at the counter and they drop it off without saying a word! Don't confuse this with a Greek place...its a wrap place. Lame. read more

Great family-owned restaurant in a location near my home. Thank goodness as I often find myself craving their Falafel Wrap which is served with a dill pickle and a flavorful sauce - fantastic! The pita's are warm and fluffy as they are prepared in a wood burning oven. The friendly and accommodating owner suggested the Steak and Cheese Pita for my husband and he thoroughly enjoys it. The magic that happens in the kitchen is fantastic. The fries are addicting. I've loved everything I've ordered there. I work close to Pitas so I have only taken my food to go but the service is always prompt and friendly. I love their wraps! My favorite is the falafel but I alter it a bit by getting the tahini sauce only and adding tabouli yummy! Gyros are also the best I've had. I know they aren't the "traditional" gyros you find around here and that's what I like about them. I find the wrap style way more appealing. Plus portion sizes are huge! The regular is more than enough for me and you don't even need fries although those are really good too! Definitely will return again and again. read more

I have been looking for the best gyros in the Peoria area and finally tried Pita's last week. The flat bread is the best of any restaurant that I have tried. Unlike most pita bread it is served warm, thin, and chewy. It has a great consistency and taste. The meat is also good and the taste is as good as any I have tasted in the area. The main difference is that Pita's uses only enough spice to compliment the meat whereas the spices at other establishments can overpower the taste of the meat itself. The service was fast and the staff friendly. I have only two negative comments. First, they were a little pricey. I can name at least two restaurants in the area whose gyros are as big and as good (though in different ways) for nearly 1/3 the price. Second, the fries were truly horrible. I normally enjoy home style fries but these were not only overly greasy but terribly soggy. Fries should never EVER be soggy. I will definitely visit there again... I'll just have to stop elsewhere to get some fries first : ) read more

We had the veggie combo, lamb pie, chicken shwarma, tabouli, and baklava. I was very pleased with most of the food. The baba ghanoush was out of this world! We actually ordered one to go. I loved the chicken shwarma wrap and the tabouli was pretty good too (I'm not a fan of tabouli). My brother enjoyed the lamb pie. The only thing we didn't care for was the hummus. I wouldn't order it again. The prices seem a bit high but the portions were nice and the quality of the food I enjoyed was well worth 5 stars. read more

The cabbage rolls are excellent. A regular order is 8 tools and are very fulfilling. The hummus and fresh pita bread are the best in town.
