When I first heard about this I was very skeptical -- why would you want to soak in beer (my mind immediately went to skunked miller-lite)? Reading about it, it became clear that is was a beer-like solution, and closer to a hop-scented herbal bath. Ok that definitely sounded better. There are also other spa amenities, and it's just you and the people you came with in each room/treatment area. So I came here with my wife, and it turned out to be the perfect relaxing, fun (and slightly gimmicky) activity between a morning of site-seeing/walking around Chicago, and an evening dinner/show. We did the silver package. Arrived a few minutes early and changed into robes/slippers (minor nitpick #1: my sandals were comically small for me, it would be nice to have bigger ones to choose from) then headed to the salt room. The room itself is very relaxing, even with periodic subway rumbling. (Minor nitpick #2: we both wished the bottom of the chairs were more padded). After a trip to the Sauna (we did not last long) and the steam room (which had a cold shower inside that was extremely nice to cool down) we headed downstairs for the soak (with fresh drinks and a snack platter). The soak was very relaxing and gave your skin a light hoppy/floral scent. Everything seemed clean and well-organized. Definitely would recommend for a unique couples' spa package. read more

I came here in July for My Birthday. I kept seeing this deal on Groupon and wanted to try this place out. FYI Meter Street Parking is available. I had the most amazing time here. I was super early for my appointment so I waited in the waiting area. I was greeted with a warm welcome and was offered water and a chill glass of Prosecco Wine. The atmosphere is so calm and relaxing the moment I walked in the door. The serenity and peace was just what I needed to kick off my birthday. I started off with the halotherapy, followed by sitting in the sauna to sweat out all the toxics, after the steam room. The steam room is where my mind and body connected with pure joy. After it was time for my beer spa, when I walked inside the room. I was in an awe moment of a surprise. The room was beautifully lit with candles, there was a chalk board with a happy birthday message. Along with a small charcuterie board and more wine and water. It was such a luxurious and beautiful experience. This was one of my favorite places to come celebrating my birthday. I will absolutely come back to enjoy another Self Care Day. From the moment I walked into the doors, the Piva Beer Spa offered me an unparalleled journey into serenity. My experience today into this haven of tranquility has left me feeling very rejuvenated. Upon arrival, the wonderful scents from the oil diffuser and the hostess greeted me. The hospitality was phenomenal. After a brief tour I was guided into the salt room. It felt as if I was stepping into another dimension of purity. Since my appointment was on a Thursday, I had the room to myself. Next was the sauna ‍ very relaxing & the steam room opened all my sinuses and pores. I enjoyed the eucalyptus body wash, it was light & refreshing. This really heightened my experience, my mind & body felt so refreshed. Now on to the best part, the beer bath. Which reminds me at this spa they serve you beer out of these cool mugs. Well, I stepped into the cedar tub which was nice and warms. I was reminded prior of the benefits of the beer bath to my skin. The beers natural ingredients worked wonders for sure, leaving my skin feeling soft, supple and revitalized. There was soo much attention to detail & the experience was soo great. What a perfect experience! I can't say enough good things! First off service was fabulous. Staff takes such great care of you! The space is super cute also, I felt like I was in a different county. We did the silver couples package. This started out with a beer mask, very bubbly and relaxing, left my skin glowing! Next we had the salt room! I brought my book and had a glass of wine! This was very relaxing also! The steam room/sauna was a great detox after the salt room. Finally we ended with the beer soak! Decided to try this place as a fun way to celebrate our anniversary and it was an amazing experience! We went with the Gold Couples Package which, according to the website, included: Halotherapy (Salt Room), Steam/Sauna, Beer Soak, Relaxation Room and Beer Mask, and a 4D Zero Gravity Chair Massage. We arrived a little early for our 1pm appointment and were warmly greeted within minutes by Ivana, who offered us beer or sparkling white wine and water while she showed us to the changing rooms. They provide a locker for your belongings and you get a robe and slides to change into. We started our blissful spa experience with the Halotherapy room where we received a beer mask and facial from Ivana while we relaxed in zero gravity chairs. She even provided us with soft blankets to make it more cozy. After the salt room, we spent 15 minutes in a sauna followed by 15 minutes in a steam room that smelled of eucalyptus. They also have a shower for you to rinse off before moving on to the beer baths. The beer baths were my favorite part! Ivana made a sign that said "Happy Anniversary!" for us which was a neat touch and we were also provided a small fruit and cheese tray each along with a refill of our beer or sparkling wine to enjoy during our soak. The beer bath was soothing and very relaxing. The temperature was perfect (not too hot and definitely not cold) and the soak left our skin feeling smooth with almost a light, floral scent. We weren't sure what to expect from this and were very surprised but grateful we didn't reek of beer hops! Last, we were taken into the room for our chair massages. These are the fully automated massage chairs and you get to customize your pressure preferences. Ivana once again provided us with a cozy blanket, which was appreciated! Overall, I am extremely happy with Piva Beer Spa and will definitely be back! This was a truly unique experience and we recommend going in with an open mind, not expecting it to be like your typical spa. read more

Very fun experience! We did the beer soak package, which included some time in the sauna and steam room. We were given a cup of beer in a wooden barrel cup (which I think helped it stay cool) as well as water to enjoy throughout. Overall, it was a unique experience and we enjoyed a quiet and private evening there. We were led into a locker room to change into our robes and slippers. The sauna and steam room had more than enough space for the two of us. The owner came to get us and knocked at the end of each session and led us to the next one. It was empty when we were there and we didn't see anyone, but we had to move up and down the stairs and go by the main entrance in our robes, which we would've wanted to avoid if there had been other people nearby. The beer soak was definitely the highlight, which was in a big room with two wooden tubs and a table with some snacks. The beer soak was so fun and didn't smell at all. I had a great time here. I recommend bringing a waterproof bag if you decide to wear a swimsuit. The beer was massive. The sauna is amazing. It's hot immediately and if you don't feel comfortable, you can always step out on the bench. It's pretty private and relaxing. What a wonderfully relaxing experience! I've been to a beer spa in Iceland and would say Piva was superior. The owner makes you feel right at home, explained the holotherapy room to us and gave us plenty of privacy to enjoy the salt room, dry and wet saunas, and the beer spa to ourselves. The salt room really did feel good to breathe in and is such a unique experience! We loved that we each had our own bath tub of swirling hops water. The hops water will make your skin feel so soft for days to come! And you can enjoy a mug of beer with light bites in a candlelit room while you soak. This is a place you must experience! Took my daughter here for her 21st birthday. We love the spa experience, but this place was definitely more! The Halotherapy (salt room) was beyond amazing! Relaxing, detoxing & definitely felt like an escape from the stress we live in every day. Loved the facial mask treatment, while we reclined and relaxed. Then we moved to the sauna, followed by the steam room (~ 15 min each). We thoroughly enjoyed the ability to sweat out the toxins. The steam room had a shower head to cleanse off before heading to the soak room. We had never before, experienced a bear soak. The private room had 2 beer tubs, dimly lit lighting w/ safe-lite candles. We were each provided a beautiful tray of snacks (fresh fruit, cheese & crackers). During our entire visit we were provided endless bottles of water (hydration) as well as a beverage choice (beer or sparkling wine) throughout our experience. The attention to details was above & beyond! (I'm a very "in-charge" person, but trust me - I left that at the door.) No need to worry or bring anything, they provide what you need. Found a great deal on Groupon and visited in February. This was the first I've heard of a beer spa in Chicago so It was a must! We arrived a couple minutes early and had some cucumber water before heading into the locker rooms. My bf and I shared a locker which had robes and Sandals for us to change into (bathing suits are optional). We were given the option of beer that came in a mini barrel cup and water which kept coming as needed. We started off with the sauna which like every room was private. The owner explain that he would turn the lights on and off a couple times meaning it was time to move to the next room so it gave us time to get our robes back on which I really appreciated. After our pores were open , we moved onto the steam room. We found having just one dimmed light to be even more relaxing. The final room was downstairs near the locker rooms. We entered a room that had soft music playing with dimmed lights and two big beer barrels for us to soak in! We both had a nice charcuterie board and beer for us to snack on while soaking which was super yummy!! If you want to really treat someone or practice some self care then head down here, you will not regret it one bit! The owners take the time to explain how each room Benefits you and even suggest you not shower until later to get the most out of your treatment. I initially scheduled an appointment for 12/10/22 @11AM for the package totaling $440 for my boyfriends birthday. Today @5:30 pm my boyfriend was in a car accident and all of our weekend plans had to be cancelled. I called them to cancel and the man on the phone rudely said "oh my god" under his breath. I asked him was something the matter and he said we always need 24hrs notice and I asked him how would I know this terrible incident would happen 24 hours prior. I told him that was insensitive and he said "well I didn't know it was an accident or whatever". How would you? Then he said"I'm just trying to be nice to you". It's small but very clean and brand new. We came here on NYE with another couple and had a great time. We did the couples package that included a steam, the sauna, a beer tub soak and a beer mask. The beer tubs are giant wooden barrels and this was the highlight of the experience. You enter a room for two. You each have your own bath and they provide a cheese/bread/olive tray and a delicious beer served in a wooden barrel mug. The hops in the bath were neat. I didn't get a huge aroma of beer as I expected. We ended our experience with a beer mask applied by paintbrush via a spa tech as you lay in a blanketed bed of hay in a room for two. This was such an interesting and cool experience! I love beer and when I moved to Chicago I stumbled upon Piva on Yelp. I bookmarked it and decided for my birthday this year to treat myself to the Gold Package. It started with relaxing in the salt room, then time in the sauna and steam room (separate things), then a beer soak. There were snacks in the beer soak room! I also got to enjoy a couple of Czech pilsners while I was there. After the soak I had a massage and face mask. I really enjoyed everything start to finish. My spa "tour guide" was so friendly and full of info and my masseuse was super sweet and friendly as well. I may have to make this a regular adventure! I was so excited to learn this spa has just opened up in my neighborhood - it's the first of its kind in Chicago and this neighborhood is lacking in day spa experiences. Unfortunately the entire consumer experience from start to finish was overall pretty negative. Starting with the online scheduling- the site is not easy to navigate and you can't pick and choose among services or add ons without calling. When I did schedule (and pre-paid!), I got a call back saying that the online scheduler was inaccurate and asked to move my appointment. When I did show up, I was told it would be a "few minutes", given a tour and told to change into a robe (which was barely fit) and asked to wait in the lobby waiting area right by the front door. In a robe. That barely covered any part of my body. The worst part was that I was made to wait an entire half an hour before I could begin my massage and now I am running late. Although I was willing to just ask for the next time I come in to add 15 min on at no charge, as I left, the owner apologized for being a "few minute late" and offered to take a small amount of money off - and was trying to charge me again - the wrong amount! I think the place has potential - and maybe they are going through growing pains- but the entire experience from start to finish was the opposite of relaxing. read more

Ha! That was fun! I found this place on my morning commute to the highway on a somewhat overlooked stretch of Milwaukee Avenue between Wicker Park and Noble Square. I picked the Platinum package online, which I wished more spas would do. I was slightly taken aback by what appeared to be a price of $350 for a one hour experience. That would have put it at or beyond the same level as the most expensive spas in the city. But don't fret, it is actually more like three hours. They should probably change that on the website. The platinum package consists of the salt room, beer soak, "relaxation room with beer mask" (more on that later), and a massage. My first impression was that the entire operation is much larger than I was expecting. At first glance, it looks like a small two person studio, but then a curtain would be drawn or a door would be opened, and a whole new section emerges, and someone else pops up. Then there are stairs down and a yet another section appears with someone else working there. The place may well be 50 people and 20,0000 square feet, or maybe it's 2000 square feet and they move things around while I'm soaking; I still can't figure it out. The salt room was pretty, and a fun place to hang out and relax. The salt actually did do a little something, too. My sinuses cleared up a touch, and it felt like I had spent an hour on the beach (a salty air ocean beach, not a lame lake beach, ye midwestern landlubbers.) From there I moved to the (in)famous beer tub. If you've made it this far, there is probably one big question you're wondering about with the beer tub... "Do you smell like 2am Saturday afterwards?" Surprisingly, no! You don't really smell like anything. When I saw the tub, I was worried that I was going to become a human brew and reek for the rest of the day. But it was really nothing like that. They offer you an optional shower afterwards, but I didn't take it. What I loved was that they served you a nice variety of snacks along with it - breads, cheeses, and....BEER! it tasted like a pretty good craft IPA. As I was going through the entire experience, I kept thinking two things: 1) I've never experienced anything like this before and 2) This really reminds me of something. It wasn't until I got to the relaxation room that consisted of a straw bed (??!) that I finally put it all together. Massage? Beer soaking? Fed a selection of grains and more beer? Sleeping on a bale of hay? A Himalayan salt room?? Holy David Burke, Batman! I'm going through the life cycle of a dry-aged Kobe steak! Putting aside the dark thoughts that the owners may bust in at any time with knives and forks, I giggled to myself as one of the hostesses returned and said I was now going to get a beer mask. No idea what it was meant to do, but if you are ASMR sensitive like I am, then this experience may very well be the highlight. She gently brushed some sort of beer-tinted clay on my face while whispering something I couldn't really make out. I think it was an explanation of what was going on, but I was in a half-trance state from the combination of the accented whispering and the rhythmic brushing. Afterwards, she turned out the lights and let me nap for about 20 minutes. As I dozed off, I wondered if she was secretly warning me that I was about to be eaten and I didn't hear her. After she came back, she brought me to the final part of the experience- the massage. She introduced me to the masseuse and then vanished into the ether. The massage was the most conventional part of the entire experience, but even then she brought something a little different to the table (no pun intended). As a massage enthusiast myself, I can usually tell in what disciplines the masseuse was schooled. I was impressed that this masseuse brought some accupressure techniques from qigong as well as elements of thai massage. I really appreciated the eastern bend of her technique. You don't see that very often. Ideally, I would have loved a touch of reflexology, either included or as an add-on option, but that's just nitpicking. Another minor nitpick is that by the time the massage started, between the beer, the hot soak and the salt room, I was starting to feel a little bit dry aged myself. Ideally, there would be stops for water after each stage to make sure I'm hydrated. The water offer wasn't until the end of the massage, and I was totally parched. Overall, this is a totally unique experience that I can see being on a "top things to do in Wicker Park" list in TripAdvisor or AirBnb experiences. This place will be packed on Valentine's Day, it will probably get tons of tourists, but I also hope it gets a steady supply of regulars in the neighborhood. I'm really happy the owners chose here to build this place when the safer option would have been downtown. In the grand tradition of a piva toast, I wish them great happiness and health! read more

I went for the salt cave and it really wasn't what I expected. I was fully dressed so I was kind of uncomfortable. I expected to change into a robe. I was given something to put over my shoes and put a few of my belongings in a locker. There was another couple in there when I entered and they had tea and were wearing robes (why wasn't I offered that?). I was still able to relax and the 45 minutes was more than enough plus it was only $20 so I don't really feel like I missed out on anything. read more
