For some reason I really want to like this place. I stop by every once in a while to reaffirm my opinion. They have a very impressive display of pizzas by the slice, calzones and other goodies for the lunch crowd and they seem to do an OK business. My problem is the food here just does not meet my taste. I think that it is well made and I am willing to admit that it is my own personal quirks that give it a thumbs down. They have a very large pie with so so sauce and a substantial amount of cheese. You know how you automatically think all pizza places are the same? Not this one. From the pizza to the salads to the subs and dinners. Everything is consistently fresh and delicious! I recently had the Eggplant Parmesan dinner and couldn't believe how awesome it was...for the next 3 days! The portions are huge and my leftovers were as yummy as the first day. Some places cut the eggplant in long pieces and cook them, but it's usually tough and inedible. Not this place. They cut it in thin circles (just like Mama used to make) and the breading and sauce is very flavorful. Went there, employee was going through trash with customer in dinning room. Took s good 45 minutes to get 2 subs. The cold sub, (turkey), had so much oil, mustard and mayo that the roll was soggy and just fell apart. read more

Ordered 2 cheese steak subs with extra cheese got barely any cheese! Italian sub was toasted far too long and at same time top of sub was mushy (no oil and vinegar) . 3 large subs totaled $38 and change. Would not order from again! read more

I am so bummed about this place, because it's such a convenient location for after-climbing-eats. However, I think I'll just stick to the trail mix next time. The first time I came here, it was amazing. Unfortunately they have failed to live up to that standard afterwards. Pizza is GREASY and floppy. And they make you wait for 45 minutes to an hour to get your grease pile. Their only sort of redeeming quality is that they have reasonably priced beer. If you ever want real NY style pizza and don't want a drive to NYC, this is the place. I grew up eating real NY pizza in the NY metro area and really missed it when I moved to NH many years ago. My wife brought home our first pizza by George about 10 years ago. I walked into our house, took one look at it and asked where she got it-I knew it was going to be great, and it was. I ordered a medium steak and cheese with mushrooms and pickles. The "steak" was shredded and stringy and not chunk steak like I prefer. Nothing tasted like it was seasoned at all and there wasn't enough cheese. The size of the sandwich was big but I'd rather have quality not quantity when it comes to food. Its "ok". Great staff but quality ingredients fall away in favor of convenience and/or cost. The pizza oven appears to be portable? Just odd for a joint with pizza in its name. Pizza by George is by far my ABSOLUTE favorite pizza/take-out restaurant. Take out or sit down, it's a 40 minute drive from my house, and worth every second it takes to get there. They are the only place I order from that I know, without a doubt, that the food will be absolutely perfect, and the order 100% correct. I have never been anything short of perfectly happy after ordering from them and eating their food. Reading this post you might think I'm a little crazy for driving 40 minutes "just for a pizza," that just means you haven't tried them yet. The pizza is good but I wasn't impressed with the subs at all - the bread always tastes like it isn't fully cooked (very doughy tasting), even when you ask for it to be "extra toasted".. The service there is a toss up. We have been there and the younger guys have actually been phenomenal. But most of the time, your order takes forever. Since I grew up in Raymond, this was the place to be. The pizza was awesome when I was younger. Iv been there recently and things are pretty much the same except there are more options to choose from. The place has grown alot, and has been "spruced up" to what it used to be. The portions here are HUGE, and I mean HUGE. The subs and calzones are pretty big too. So, of course I would come back to george's. I cannot have pizza too often anymore but I have always loved Pizza by George since they opened about 25 years ago. When I was out the other day at the little mall, I decided to see if I could get something for dinner for my husband & I that I could cook at home. Went in and Joe (the owner) was there. I asked about having something uncooked to do at home. I ended up getting 2 pizzas. Let me tell you, they were delicious and we were able to have dinner hot and in 14 minutes. We have been going here for years and had been great, the last few years have been a big disappointment. We went a few months ago and the wifes veal wasn't cooked. We tried again last night, and were eating in! She ordered a chicken bomb and I had steak and cheese with 4 pepperoni rolls. Dine in, and we had a beer each as we waited, the pizza rolls came out within a few minutes. They were still good, but pricy. We finished our beers and still no subs, we figured we would just tell them to wrap them to go instead of waiting any longer. My wife told the girl at the register, and she tracked the order to takeout pile. She said how long have they been sitting there, and the lady said 5 minutes. Absolute BS, I had been watching. They were cold when we got home, and she had an attitude when we asked about the length of time they were siting there. Our last visit she had an attituded also. We wont be going back! read more

The only negatives are they don't deliver and almost every time I come, it can take awhile to order even if Im just grabbing a couple slices. I came in tonight by myself as the family was out and about. I was craving something light....I got a garlic knot, pepperoni roll and medium vegetarian sub. The food and service here is always top notch, they are one of the few pizza places that plainly list on their menu what comes in a vegetarian sub. We Love this place since we moved here eight years ago. The only problem is the subs, the steak and cheese was always nice but had doughy bread, they changed the bread and now it's Delicious. A few nights ago we ordered 4 steak and cheese subs, They Changed the Steak they use, we hated it. We still have four half eaten subs in the refridgerator! Please change back to the other steak, it was much more tasty than this stuff. It was all chopped so fine, it clumped up as soon as it cooled and we went to eat them. What a waste of 50$ for us. A standard NY style pizza with fresh made crust. This is the only place in town that still makes their own dough/crusts. A huge display of slices are available, but you take your chances on how fresh those are. I greatly prefer a whole pie fresh cooked. Standard strip mall ambiance. read more

Have only had a large cheese pizza from here. Not bad, thin on bottom and very doughy crust. Really had an artificial cheesy flavor. Just moved to the area and was recommended by at least 3 of my coworkers to go here. It was ok for around $10. read more

This was, by far, the worse pizza I have ever consumed. The crust was soggy, the ingredients were poorly chosen. Instead of chunks of ham, I got thin slices of ham, like you would get in a ham and cheese sandwich. Would say I know why there has been a "Help Wanted" sign outside this place for almost 6 months. I got the best eggplant parm sub that I've had outside of NY/NJ. They toasted it so the bread was nice and crispy, and the sauce-to-cheese-to-eggplant ratio was perfect. The small was $5.99, but would have been considered a large around Boston and probably would have cost $8.99! read more

I came from NJ in 2002 and have been looking for true NY style pizza ever since. PBG is the closest I've found in my immediate area. A little further away in Brentwood, Toss n' Sauce has the absolute closest I've found, but this is close enough. Good size pies, quality ingredients. The stuffed pizzas are fantastic! A little pricey, but worth not having to tolerate "House of Pizza" pizza. Very casual atmosphere, nice people, and the place is always clean. read more

On many occasions now I have gone to PBG for take out orders and been met with a complete lack of customer service. The larger man working in the front who is usually dripping sweat in what ever food he is preparing is extremely rude day in and day out. He can't look up to speak to his staff or to answer a customers question. He can't crack a smile or say thank you. I'm assuming this has something to do with the staffs high turnover and a help wanted sign always being on the front door. Food is usually good but the staff and service is horrible. If you want great food and service I recommend G&P pizzeria in Chester. I won't be going back to PBG again. read more
