We stopped in this place on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon and grabbed a picnic table out front. Our food came out fast, it was very delicious and the service was great, they even brought a bowl of water for our pup. The reason I did not give five stars is because we almost left before even getting served because it took a long time for anyone to come over to us. (10+ minutes). Every time we try this place we really want to like it but this will be our last visit. We arrived at 6:15 and were informed that they were out of their pasta special. My wife and I ordered lasagna "rolls" and after a few minutes were informed that they were out. At 6:30 on a Saturday?? Very poor kitchen management. My wife ordered a meat lovers pizza with onions, cooked very well done almost burnt crust. When it came out it was barely cooked. Sent it back. It came back right. I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. It came out with tiny, almost inperceptable pieces of chicken. Every Italian Restaurant I have ever been to, including in Italy, had nice strips or full breast of chicken on top. Really no excuse for the poor quality of our meal. Even the meatballs were only fair. For the Restaurant itself, it is in desperate need of maintenance as the railings are just gross!! Do they ever wipe these down??? It seems to be a popular place by locals. Pizza was nothing life altering, it was just good. We did take out pizza and tiramisu. Lorenzo (possibly it's not his real name) was taking care of take out section. He didn't even offer forks to go with the dessert. It's a very small detail but I had to go back to get some and his excuse was that they try to reduce the plastic use. He doesn't consider that we might be tourists and no forks in the hotel room. Again, small details and big attitudes annoy me a lot. read more

This is our first time at Pizza Gorda and will never return. The waitress did not share with us the specials of the day, we only heard it from another waiter at another table. The spinach and mozzarella pizza was not cooked. The crust was extremely soggy, and the pizza was cold. When the waitress finally came back, she could see that the pizza had not been eaten. All she said was "this is woodfired pizza, and it was not soggy when I brought it to your table." You could see that the crust was limp and raw. No offer to reheat the pizza. There was a gentleman named Nico walking to different tables asking how everything was. Wow, where have I been these 3 years living in SWFL. This is a true hidden gem but wow! We came here with my daughter and her friends for a light dinner, first of all RSVP if you can, we didn't and so we were seated outside, which was not bad as it is so cute. The menu is not overwhelming but it is def curated. The service was superb! We ordered the artichokes, the mostaccioli with min meatballs, a margharita pizza and a pep and mushroom pizza. The pizza was superb, the coal fired crust was amazing. The pizza comes in one size only, on the smaller side but packs a lot of flavor. The mostaccioli, wow! so cheesy and so delicious. First of all, they were OUT of bread - an Italian restaurant- really? Said they could give me more croutons in my salad instead. Since I wanted bread I ordered a cheese pizza. It was good, but not great. The house wine was good and the Caesar salad was average and quite expensive - $10 for a small okay salad. i ordered baked zitI, expecting it to actually be baked - silly me. The bowl of pasta arrived - ziti, sauce and cheese all mixed up - ugly, unappetizing - no sign of ever being in an oven. The ziti was like mush and 1/2 was all broken up. It obviously was reheated. The sauce was bland. The tiny meatballs were tasteless. Gave feedback to the server and the "manager", but I wasn't impressed with the response. Will not return. read more

Overall, I would recommend this place, especially if dining in. We aren't from the area, and ordered take out, but I wish we had stayed. Some of the food was a swing and miss: the sausage pizza was soggy because the sauce was on the watery side, and a salad we got had a lot of spoiled, broken down greens, so I spent several minutes picking through it and throwing it out. Had I dined at the restaurant, I would have sent it back. The stars were the sandwiches made with pizza dough - that got rave reviews, and the white pizza with ricotta and spinach was the best pizza I have ever tasted. Everything about it was flawless. We recently discovered this adorable restaurant with outside seating and it's sister restaurant Fresco as we left the dog park in Punta Gorda. The buildings are homes painted white with seating on the porches and between the homes. There are red umbrellas to protect you from the sun and some picnic tables too. We took Freckles and decided to stop on the way home from the dog park. Our server brought me a lovely cappuccino and Dave a Peroni. This was a basket of fresh baked bread, butter and oil for dipping. Dave ordered the meat lover's wood smoked pizza. Very thin crust, homemade sauce and cheese along with sausage, pepperoni, ham, bacon and prosciutto. It was super delish! I ordered the Gambero salad with beets, cannelloni beans, grilled shrimp and greens. It was light and very tasty. The night was beautiful and we really enjoyed dining outside.
