I think first off, if you are not from northeast PA, you need to be a little open minded as to what constitutes pizza. One thing that this area offers is great variety of pizza tastes and presentations. Pizza L'Oven offers a fried tray style pizza that can be ordered by the tray (14 rectangular slices), 1/2 tray, or by the slice. We ordered a full tray (1/2 plain, 1/2 with onions). Overall the pizza is crisp with good cheese to sauce ratio. I personally prefer with onions, as the onions add a nice sweetness to the pizza. The one downfall is that this pizza is very greasy/oily as compared to similar pizzas in the area. Overall good service, good pizza. read more

There is just something about the tray style pizza in the Pittston area that trumps all other pizza styles for me. Of those tray style pizzas, this is the epitomy. Whenever I come up from Philly to visit family, we always order a couple trays. Traditional with onion is always the favorite! They are so consistent in their pizza - always a nice crispy crust and always delicious! Also - if you are lucky enough, they sometimes have some frozen thats been vacuum sealed for take home! It makes the trip back down to philly easily and is great to reheat when you need a quick dinner! Its not quite as good as fresh out of the oven, but it's damn near close!! read more

To reply to the last reviewer, the dough is freshly made every day. I know this because I used to work there. The toppings go on the raw dough and it's cooked in an oven. If you don't like the method of cooking this pizza, which is a unique style, then don't eat it. That's what keeps customers coming back, it's a similar style to Victory Pig. We live in Wyoming and drive by this place constantly. They're always crazy busy, especially on weekends. We decided to go for lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty dead. Just one other table of two people. We ordered a tray of 7 cuts of pizza w/onion and a side of fries. The fries are like those heavy battered fries and were just ok. They give you one little plastic prefilled cup of ketchup w/a lid. It was a little strange that they ration out ketchup like that. The pizza was really, really greasy (and we're a fan of fried pizza). We were asked if we wanted garlic powder or parm and we said no, but immediately regretted it when we tried the pizza. It was soooo bland. The sauce was watery and it just tasted like nothing. We took leftovers home even though I didn't want them. If you want amazing fried pizza go to Three Guys (you'll be addicted). When we want good pizza we'll go to Sabatini's, Three Guys or even Pizza Bella where it actually tastes like something and won't kill you with grease. In response to Nicholas, Thank you for airing your affiliation bias early on. I appreciate that. But I am shocked that I had to be the first to post a listing and review for Victory Pig and that the Pizza Perfect listing has the wrong address. Why am I shocked? Well, Pizza L'oven is good but they make verifiable copies of Victory Pig's flagship. It's the same spin off Old Forge pizza (fried crust in a thin coating of peanut oil?). The differences matter and L'oven just comes off as a cheaper cousin who isn't much cheaper anymore. When I've had the option I choose the alternatives. However, VP has weird hours and Trucksville is out of the way from The Ave. Pizza L'oven still makes some solid pizza from what I can remember. read more

Ordered 14 cuts for take-out, I have to say it was the worst pizza that I had in quite awhile. My reason is that by the time I got it home (1 mi.) it was so soggy with oil that you could not even pick it up. I have never had pizza that was this soggy before and I will never have it again. Love this pizza! It is fried and no where near healthy but so worth it! I like the one with onions in the sauce; it gives it a slightly different taste which is delicious. I came to this place not really knowing what to expect besides hearing that the pizza was made differently than normal pizzas. To be honest I was expecting something good and thankfully I'm glad that it wasn't a let down! The pizza is baked and fried in oil, though I'm not sure of the order of the cooking method. The pizza is a bit on the greasy side but is fine for me since I won't be consuming it every single day. The flavors that are brought out with the various condiments and the cooking method is unique. There are other foods in this place besides the pizza. They do have wings as others have mentioned. I personally haven't had the opportunity to try them yet, but I will probably the next time I get a chance. Their appetizer selections are pretty good! I tried their potato pancakes and pierogies which are very tasty. I'm grateful that I had an experience with this place being my first pizza joint in PA. I am definitely sold and will be coming back. Pizza L'ugggghhhin! My dad tried to convince us this place was as good as Old Forge/Avoca favorites, so we went to check it out. The pizza is square - the comparison stops there. As mentioned by others the crust is crunchy ala Pizza Hut pan pizza, extra fried. Because of this the dominant flavor is... grease. There may have been other flavors in there, but I sure couldn't taste em. One extra star because the waitresses were incredibly attentive & friendly. They should consider a move to Old Forge. I agree with the first reviewer, except for her giving them 4 stars. Their food is super greasy! I think they use pre-made square pizza crust and then cook it by deep frying it. This is what makes the crust crispy, but also super greasy. Then they add sauce, cheese, and any toppings to the greasy crust and bake it for a few minutes to melt the cheese. I've had their pizza a few times, and after eating 2 slices I feel like I've eaten a pound of lard. Talk about a heart attack waiting to happen! I've only been here at lunch time so that's all I can speak for. The pizza I think is great, especially the crust, but there is so much grease on the pizza that after two slices you start feelin' kind of sick. The appetizers that we've tried as well have tasted great, but also just taste greasy. While the pizza here is very good, it's more of a place I want to go occasionally than as a regular. The fried crispy crust is a great change up and while I don't mind that it's a little greasy, that's going to keep me from going there more than once a month or so. There are a couple of other places near by with a similar crust, but out of all of them this place has the best pizza as well as the nicest inside seating area. The pizza and wings are to die for, its the price that makes it lose a star. The pizza is the 'fried" pizza variety, with a thick crispy crust, chunky tomato sauce and plenty of mozzarella cheese. It's very greasy which is part of what makes it so good. It's wonderful but it will cost you a fortune to feed your family here. You can get the same pizza at Sizzle Pi for half the price. Their selection includes the usual mass market stuff and a few decent selections like Harpoon, Magic Hat #9. They also sell homemade frozen for $6.50/dozen. I've eaten at some of the most talked about pizza joints in the country, including Frank Pepe's in New Haven. NEPA pizza is a breed all it's own. Pizza L'oven gets it right, every time. It tastes the same as it does 20 years ago. Yes, the crust is greasy. Yes, there are onions in the sauce. Yes, it's a CUT, not a SLICE. Personally, I think the pizza tastes much better the next day after "setting up" in the fridge over night, but only when you re heat it in the oven and not the microwave. Arrived At Pizza Loven early afternoon on this past sunday, not many tables in the place had customers, a bit surprising after all I heard about the place. Sat down waited 20 mins for someone to come over, seemed a lil strange one waitress took our drink order , a few waters and a few sodas, kinda rolled her eyes when we asked for water, then another waitress took our order and so we waited , asked several times where our food was at and kept saying will be right out. waited patiently for the pizza and when it arrived it looked good , and it was!! but as we were sitting there eating we heard the server who took our drink order talking and laughing about prior customers and how cheap they were and didn't leave a good enough tip and how the whole table drank water. not sure if that's why she rolled her eyes but we felt that's the reason why. we immediately asked for our check and another table walked in and said hello to that waitress and her name was AAlysa , ( hope the spelling is correct) so to the owners since I am a diabetic and cant drink soda I would hope your servers don't chase any other customers away for drinking water and feel they don't tip as much!! mind you I always tip 20% that nite I left nothing since I felt I was owed something as well!! read more

They have the best pizza...my recommendation is to get the entire tray with onions. My husband ordered a cheese steak hoagie and when I tried a bite it was absolutely delicious! This is a nice family restaurant and we will keep going back and trying other items on their menu. read more

Absolute favorite pizza and wings! We love this place! After moving out of the area, we have visited just to eat this food. Super clean restaurant, same friendly servers have worked there for eons - totally peaceful atmosphere. Previous reviewer that did not care for method of cooking should perhaps have considered eating a salad off the menu, or better yet eat at a tofu stand, not any pizza and wing establishment, if cholesterol is an issue. read more

I gotta say, this was not good. I ordered a half tray of the red and a half tray of the white to take back home to Maryland since you cannot buy fried Sicilian style pizza there. I ate 3 pieces and they were densely thick and the cheese rubbery. Big time disappointment. The rest of my pizza order ended up in the garbage. By comparison, I had pizza from nearby Pizza Perfect today and the crust was light and airey and a pleasure to eat. I used to believe that there was no such thing as " bad" pizza...until I came here. Let me say also that I live nearby and have been here many times over the years and have been disappointed every time. The pizza is a greasy, sloppy mess. I think they attempt to copy the fried pizza style of Victory Pig but fail miserably. If ordered with extra toppings, the pizza becomes a soupy slop that you can't even eat with your hands. The service is very slow as well. I've been there when the place is half empty and waited half an hour to get food on the table, which is ridiculously slow for a pizza joint. The last straw came today when I ordered half a tray with extra onions for takeout. I came to pick up 20 minutes later, waited an additional 15 minutes and finally got the pizza. It had raw, cold onions sprinkled on top of it. Another annoying thing about Pizza Loven is that they don't take credit or debit cards, but have an ATM machine "for your convenience". They want your business but are too cheap to pay credit card fees I guess. There are dozens of great pizza places within 10 miles of here....if you want good pizza go anyplace else but Pizza L'oven. read more
