This pizza makes Little Cesar's seem like a Michelin Star restaurant. The pizza cost $30... I could have purchased 6 Little Cesars pizzas let them sit for 3 weeks in a humid room and it would still taste better than whatever we were served today. In fact, I would recommend shutting down and starting a new menu. Loved the staff though! Totally not their fault--TD can do better and they are choosing to be cheap. Very very busy when we walked in, located inside a community center so not obvious to find. Location had a playground and bocce ball etc outside. Maybe we got the wrong pizza.... But it was not that great. A third of the pizza lacked sauces and toppings and parts seemed a bit burned maybe . Machiavelli lacked flavor, the mushrooms were basic mushrooms like the button kind. I had too high of hopes to inking the "mushroom" blend would be something more special. The smoked prosciutto and pepperoni somehow didn't have much flavor at all. Finally tried this spot! It's a hidden gem towards the middle of Tahoe Donner. There are indoor and outdoor seats, order at the counter and find a seat. Staff is so nice, friendly, and welcoming. Their wings and pizza were good. Large pizzas! So you may want to consider a kid's size if it's just you or a small party of two. Beer on top, good wine option, playground for the kids, live music on some nights. What else do you need? read more

Love this place and now they are back open after covid and better than ever! We had the Margarita pizza and a chicken Caesar. The chicken Caesar had a drizzle of balsamic which was a great addition. Desert we had pizzuke which was a warm cookie with ice cream and chocolate and we asked for Carmel too! Yum!!! Had wine off their very affordable and delish wine list. I have been to pizza on the hill many times as it's very close to my house and right next to the playground my kiddos play at. The food is overall good. I have enjoyed all the pizzas and really liked the caesar salad. My only gripe is the prices reflect a sit down restaurant but you have to go to the bar for all food/drink orders. I found the servers and workers super helpful but just an annoyance. read more

We are so happy Pizza on the Hill is open! Our family stays at Tahoe Donner every summer and there are always nights I'd like a night off from cooking and would prefer a short drive for either dine-in or takeout. This spot has everything - including a playground for the little ones! Pizza on the Hill has incredible pizza, tasty salads and an advanced beer and wine list. All of the employees were so kind and welcoming. Be sure to log in and make a reservation since it can get busy (even on a Tuesday in the summer). A play structure adjacent to Pizza on the Hill was great for our toddler. So you're telling me I can eat pizza, my child can play nearby AND I can have an adult beverage?! Game changer. Apparently a full reboot was done when they re-opened this year (so any negative reviews from pre-COVID should be entirely disregarded) It is clear that the kitchen takes pride in what they're serving as everything was delicious. I don't generally write reviews, but I had such exceptional service here that I wanted to share. I live in SF and was staying with friends in Truckee this week while skiing at Palisades. After a day of skiing, we didn't want to venture too far into town, so we came to their local pizza shop. It was pretty busy as it was trivia night, so we couldn't actually get a table. They were apologetic, but told us we could eat our pizza in the library area. We decided to take it to go instead. We waited about 20 minutes for our pizza, and during that time, several different staff members checked in on us to make sure we were didn't need anything else. It's funny because I was just complaining about service I recently received in SF, and I was blown away with how friendly and attentive the staff was at Pizza on the Hill. Oh and the pizza was delicious as well. I look forward to visiting again soon. read more

I had a large family reunion in town for the weekend. Pizza on the bill couldn't have been any better! The staff was amazing! They took care of the 25 family members of all ages. The venue was perfect for a large group, the kids got to run around, the adults were able to relax and enjoy the evening. The pizzas, salads and apps were great! I feel restaurants should recognize when an entree has barely been touched. The chips were soggy because it had SO MUCH CHEESE!! I never thought I could say something had to much cheese but, this was like cheese soup. We are locals and I would suggest Zano's or Pizzeria over this pizza place. So bummed to write a crappy review. I love supporting all of our local businesses. I actually just read reviews and I am floored the owners don't take these comments into account and fix the pizza!! I would preferred to send a message your establishment privately, but there did not seem a way to do that. We had been referred to Pizza on the Hill by friends to visit while in Truckee and we were sadly so disappointed. We called in an order to be picked up. First, They had no pineapple( who doesn't have pineapple) I probably should have said No Thank you at that point- but I continued an order without pineapple- Then, they only explained they only had one size of pizza and each pizza was $20. So I had to order two. Again, another red flag- but was hopeful first recommendation was gonna be well worth it. My son went to pick up the pizzas, and sat there for 25 minutes before someone asked him again what he ordered and yes, his pizzas sat there done for that 25 minutes. Needless to say- no apology- no acknowledgement, barely any customer service at all. Pizza was cold- and had no flavor. Extremely disappointed- kids wouldn't even eat- and kids will eat any pizza. read more

I am a small business owner and bend over backward to avoid giving someone a bad review, but after several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter with three employees, it appears the problem is part of the culture of the place. Our pizza, which was "serviceable" at best, arrived at room temperature. I sent it back once and it returned still cold to the touch. I sent it back a second time -- for it's third cooking -- and it returned burned black across the top. I showed it to three employees -- in the kitchen, at the counter, and to our server -- and their response was the same, "Sorry." No offer to replace or discount it. If I could give my experience a 0 it would still be too generous! We ordered a pizza, salad and two beers. Chowed down on the salad whilst we waited for our pizza. One beer lead to two... an hour and ten minutes later, and still no pizza. We decided to ask for it to go, as by this point we were sooo over sitting at the bar waiting. When we told our server, Lindsay, she got a blank look on her face followed by an audible "oh no." She never put our order in.... We said we'd rather cancel the order, but she insisted it would only take five minutes. We were expecting her to comp our beers or offer us another while we waited, but instead she avoided us completely. When she did make eye contact, she asked if we wanted to order another beer!!! Seriously?!? When we declined with a look of contempt, she coldly said, "your pizza will be ready in two minutes." Ten minutes later someone else brought us our to-go pizza, as Lindsay hid in the back. We got out of the restaurant only to discover they had given us the WRONG PIZZA!!! Furious, we went back in to get a refund but were met with a different box and told that we weren't supposed to take the one that was just given to us!!!!! Wow! This was followed by, "Do you want cheese?" Omg...the level of incompetence and rudeness was staggering. It would be one thing if the place was packed. As it was, there was only five of us at the bar. FIVE PEOPLE TO SERVE AND LOOK OUT AFTER!!! Clearly Lindsay was more interested in watching football and talking to her friends (two of the five at the bar) rather than doing her very simple job. Someone should school her on how to treat your customers when you've screwed up. This experience was not acceptable. With service like this, it's no wonder this place is in the red and its mere existence is subsidized by us TD members...not where I want my money spent! read more

I went for the first time this past weekend and the servers were friendly and hospitable, the pizza had a good flavor. Lugnuts were tasty. We had a couple of appetizers and they were very flavorful and good. I also enjoyed my southwest salad. Highly recommend if you are a salad lover. I would recommend this place if you're looking for good food and service. Also they have a wonderful playground for kids there and picnic benches outside so you can eat your pizza and your children can play right there in front of you. We had a very nice evening here during the shoulder season. Great gluten free pizza! My husband raved about their baked mac n cheese covered in chili. He had to take half home the portion was so big! Oh wow! This place may look nice but the service is by far one of the worst! Waited in line for about 30 min to place a to go order. After about 3 people cutting in line I get to the front. The young lady says I'm sorry sir this is not the to go order line. She then points to the register about 2 feet away and said that's the line over there. Mind you I was the last person in line. I said ok I'll wait in that line of 2 people to place my order. Now in this line the lady bar tending is taking the orders. I wait again for about 20min. While I wait the bar tender gets two orders wrong no problem it happens. Then she's serves 2 other guest that walk up to the bar before taking care of me the last guest again in line. I place my order and decided after almost an hour of wait to order and almost being ignored I decided a tip was not call for. At that the bar tender said "I can't this hard and not make any money". Oh wow. I almost lost it. Not fan of this place. Don't go unless you want to be treated like you're invisible. Maybe that's just me but it's happened twice now!!!! read more

I don't know why but this always happens. It's mid April and not so many people around midweek in TD. I ordered 2 specialty pizzas at 23 bucks a piece. The crust was awful, like cardboard and the edges were too hard to eat. The toppings were minimal and just thrown into the middle of the pie with no care.
