We loved this place! Two stars off for the manager who just really had an attitude the evening my group of 20+ showed up. After being told we could be seated in 45 minutes and asked to wait in the patio bar area, the hostess came out and said that they couldn't serve our party at all. I asked to speak to the manager. I reminded the manager that I had called ahead and was told that they while they don't take reservations they would indeed accept our party, and there should be no problem. After some wrangling, the manager reluctantly agreed to let us wait for tables - but it would be awhile - 45 minutes. Great! We were more than happy to spend $500 at the patio bar on apps and cocktails. We weren't able seated in about 30 minutes. Food was great, service was excellent, view was lovely. We came across this restaurant and, because of the beautiful view, decided to give it a try while celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived, we were told the outdoor bar was open seating and offered a limited food menu. Since there were no tables available inside or on the patio, we took one of the two booth tables at the bar. I have to say, the bartender was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. Definitely a 5/5. We ordered the sausage, mushroom, and pepperoni pizza, the calamari, and the salmon salad. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The calamari was overly salty. The salmon on the salad was shredded and had a strong barbecue flavor that didn't pair well with the rest of the dish. The menu also listed walnuts, but instead the salad was topped with sweet, candy-like quinoa pieces, which was unexpected. Another issue was the wait time. Although we placed our order before other guests who arrived after us, their food came out first. I'm not sure if orders from the main dining area are prioritized over bar seating, but if that's the case, it would be helpful to let customers know in advance so expectations are clear. Love the ambience of this lakefront restaurant! We ordered a Caesar Salad and a large Margarita Pizza. The service was really slow. We waited over a half an hour for our food and waited again for water refills and our check. The Caesar Salad was spot on with the taste and freshness. I honestly couldn't get enough! Worth going for the view! Gorgeous to sit outside and enjoy a beautiful lunch next to the lake. They have some shade on the patio as well so it doesn't get too toasty on super sunny days. Za's location of course is 5 stars, but I think tourists come in and get served absolute dumpster fire of food and pretend it's good because it's Lake Tahoe, and that's how we end up with a restaurant that has over 3.5 stars instead of 2. We sat on the patio, and our sever Hannah was great from beginning to end. It wasn't too busy. I ordered the beef wagyu ravioli and it was not good. The beef was dry and the ravioli was dumped in a wine sauce. Hannah took it off our bill. Also wtf was the bread. My friend tried it I did not because there was some kind of pepper in it. My friend said it was chewy and it was served with like a creamy thousand island dressing. Huh? My friend ordered the burger. The fries were mushy. I had the smoked chicken pasta and it was DRY. Dry chicken, dry pasta. No flavor. And the asparagus looked like brains. Congealed mozzarella covered every inch. I didn't eat it and they offered me something else. We decided on spaghetti to go. I didn't open the to go box until we got to our room. The meatballs were dry and honestly visually the food looked terrible. Meatballs were black, the pasta had little sauce and again congealed cheese. Listen, I sound like a Karen. We were lovely to Hannah and she was lovely to us. I was embarrassed to not eat food because that's my worst nightmare to draw that kind of attention. Honestly I'm probably the most upset by that. 99% of the time if I don't like something I box that shit to go and either my kids eat it or it goes in trash in the privacy of my home. Couldn't even pretend and that was horrible. Usually I also allow for great service and location to bump up ratings but I think that is what lulls people into the belief they might enjoy the food. No. That being said we did not eat pizza. That could be the draw here but I can't speak to it. Overall, the owners of this place should consider how great it would be to be the whole package. Location, service, AND food. But I guess when you run a business in a tourist town you can get away with less. read more

Wedge Salad: The presentation was unique, and the salad was refreshing. We loved the bacon and oven-roasted tomatoes. My husband decided to drive up to the Lake to have lunch at my favorite waterfront lake view. We got there around noon, and it was already packed on the patio so the very nice hostess said "grab a drink and I'll send you a text when we're ready for you about 15mins". We grabbed a drink and met a very nice bartender named Sebastian, but with a B. He made very nice screwdrivers to my liking. We got seated by the railing and ordered the shrimp bacon and jalapeño poppers with cheese whiz on top called Pats Poppers $18. This is the second time we had them and they are so good. You get a 5 count so if there are two people you'll need to split it. I wish restaurants made appetizers an even count. Today, we decided to try the pizza YINZER BY B.C. mozzarella, salami, spicy capicola ham, herb vinaigrette, roma tomatoes, chopped romaine, red onions, pepperoncinis $24 for10in or $29 for 16in. We got the 10inch and finished it which was the perfect size for two people. Our server was from Argentina, it was fun talking to him, he was very attentive and he was headed back to his home country next week, but he loved Lake Tahoe just as I do! Parking is limited so get there early and enjoy a fabulous meal and the gorgeous view of Lake Tahoe! The indoor seating by the window is nice too along with an upstairs venue for large parties. I did like that they added bar seating to the right of the door with tall tables and stools to enjoy the view too, but it wasn't open for lunch - only bar drinks. read more

The bread was very dense and dry. We ordered clam linguine, chicken Alfredo and the noodle soup, and they were all very bland. For that many entrees on the menu, I would've assumed they would've made these great. Very disappointing that a jar of Rao's sauce could be so much tastier than a restaurant, serving meals at an expensive price tag. They definitely should stick to their meats and grilled items! We asked them to remake them and while they did, they did not come back that much better. They still tasted watered down. I recommend the create your own 10" pizza but everything else on the menu was below MID quality. The birthday desert we ordered for our friend was HORRIBLE. They were "doughnut pillows" or beignets but they looked like refried beans and chips. Service-wise, the young people that served at this restaurant did not provide good service whatsoever, we sensed attitude. Our main waiter, Nico, however was great! Came here for my birthday, and unfortunately the experience did not live up to the hype!! DO NOT COME. The only reason I'd recommend this place is for the lakefront views and pictures. Everything else was disappointing. The food was honestly bad. The arugula pasta was especially disappointing and not something I'd recommend ordering. The drinks were just as underwhelming. I even asked for my Paloma to be remade, and somehow the second one was still not good. Service was a mixed bag. Nico, our server, was friendly and did his best, but he deserves to work somewhere like Christy's where the food and overall experience would match his effort. That said, the kitchen was incredibly slow, the food took forever to come out, and when we were finally ready to leave, the check also took an unnecessarily long time. To top it off, the birthday dessert was awful. For a restaurant at this price point, a complimentary birthday dessert would have at least been a nice gesture, but even if they had charged for it, it wasn't worth eating. The thin crust pizzas are the best deal and phenomenal. The large 16" at $29 is enough to feed 3 hungry adults, medium is enough for 2. A single entree is near the price of a large pizza. Place is extremely loud (wood floors and ceiling). You practically have to yell to be heard when it's busy so not a good romantic dining room. read more
