An easy Lyft ride away , Bella's was everything I could've asked for. Located in a neat row of shops , the restaurant was bright , clean and welcoming . The owner , in house and at the counter , welcomed me . I'm from Arizona and visiting Montreal for the summer , but falling short of finding "that" pizza . Well , I found it at Bella's . I ordered my "must have" toppings , roasted garlic and onions ( on the 12 inch pie ) at the counter , along with a can of soda , all for a very fair $20.00 . The owner brought the pie to my table within 10-15 minutes or so , and OMG , what a pie it was . As you can see from my foto , the pizza looked beautiful . What you can't see is its splendid aroma and a taste the appropriate gods would give 10/10 heavenly stars. OK , I'm being a bit schmaltzy , but this was "the" pizza I'd been craving. This pie had the perfect crispness , the roasted garlic , onions and cheese were fresh and abundant without being over kill. I like to savor my food , so I took my time , bit by bit , slice by slice . It was the perfect final meal to enjoy before heading off to Boston's Logan Airport , sated to the max , and beyond . As an aside , which they literally were , condiments , were easily accessible on a countertop by the soda/dessert coolers. Because I'm one of "those people" who like to eat a pie with a fork and knife , so that I can savor instead of gobble , my only recommendation to the powers that be here is to replace the plastic cutlery with stainless steel , as the pizza is so oven hot when brought to table , that the plastic tines of the fork don't hold up to the heat , enough said . The owner was most gracious , coming over to my table asking how the pie was , my smile giving away my total satisfaction with the food and the restaurant ( nothing fancy , but clean , serviceable and welcoming ) . I like to order my toppings a la carté, usually pepperoni + roasted red peppers (or pepperoni + mushrooms; or all three). Roasted peppers--not raw--are a must for me. Under the direction of a wonderful new chef, La Toscana's shows what elevated Italian cuisine can be like when care is emphasized from start to finish. We chose to have a milestone birthday celebration at La Toscana's because we had gone there a few weeks prior and were thoroughly impressed. We started the evening with a variety of appetizers including stuffed zucchini flowers, meatballs, and Caesar salads. The stuffed zucchini flowers were an instant favorite at the table-- hot, filled with rich, delicate ricotta, and crunchy on the outside. The meatballs were large, fluffy, perfectly seasoned, and accompanied by the elegant house marinara sauce. The Caesar salad was light and delicious with the welcome addition of sundried tomatoes. We then shared two excellent pizzas-- the margherita for the adults and a cheese for the kids. Both were notable for a crispy thin crust, perfect blend of sweet and tangy marinara, and perfectly balanced cheese. If this weren't great enough, the house-made pasta exceeded expectations. The chef makes the pasta daily and then creates the different types to order right before your very eyes-- in the window of the restaurant. With care and precision, he measures and cuts creating pappardelle, agnolotti, and tortello. Stand-out dishes at the table included the ricotta-filled agnolotti served with a decadent mushroom cream sauce. The pappardelle Bolognese was incredible with the perfect bite to the pasta and a flavorful and balanced meat sauce. The gnocchi with pesto creme is also another dish not to be missed. If you are fortunate enough to strike up a conversation with the chef, you will learn amazing insights into how he thinks about pasta and its preparation as well as his journey to Wellesley. It's a great story! We will certainly be coming back and hope to celebrate more great dinners at La Toscana's.
