This was a pleasant surprise! I grew up on the east side of Rochester where I feel some of the best pizza was when I was a kid in the 90s. Places like the original Amicos Pizza on waring road. Pizza that tasted like the recipes used, came straight from Italy. Many of the old skool places in western NY have this in common. Pizza shack is no doubt that old skool pizza with a taste that is like stepping in a time machine back to when you could go to almost any pizza parlor and get a fantastic pizza, before the oversaturation of pizza restaurants. read more

The staff is always very friendly, and I truly enjoy their pizza. However, the wings are average in quality.

Ordered for the 1st time last night and was disappointed in all the hype. Called and asked for the special combo price of 28.99 (large cheese and a dozen wings). Added a topping ($2.30 , according to their website). Husband picked up and ended up getting charged $38!?!? Pizza was ok (very thick crust and I would nor say "generous toppings" as they do on their website menu - see photo), as were the wings, but nothing amazing in our opinion, especially for the price. read more

Ordered a medium pepperoni pizza and fried mushrooms today. Pizza was absolutely dismal, like that of a gas station when they let it sit under hot lamps all day. Crust was hard and inedible. The mushrooms were supposed to be a half pound but showed up at 6 oz with no blue cheese. The breading was so fine ground it tasted and resembled dirt. This was both the worst pizza and worst fried shrooms I've ever had the displeasure of eating. Delivery was "no contact" but yet the guy banged on my door like I had a warrant. Possibly looking for another tip although I paid a tip and "support local business fee" which I thought I was doing by ordering from a local business. read more

I called in my order and the man on the phone taking my order seemed like I was putting him out calling my order in! We ordered a large pizza, light sauce, 1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 plain cheese. When we get there, there is a sign on the register 'Cash Only'. Now, I thought why did this grown man taking my order not tell me on the phone. A surprising coincidence they have an ATM in the store. Are they getting a cut of the ATM surcharge? Luckily I had enough cash. The pizza was flat and looked like old dough was used. The crust took up about 2 inches of the pizza, then about 1 inch of just dried red sauce. With a light sprinkle of cheese in the center. Only a few pepperonis were on half. I've lived all over the north east coast. Pizza is very personal and is good in many different places. However, EVERY single person I've exposed the shack too agrees it is the best pizza they have ever eaten. It's the best of all aspects of pizza. Crust is the perfect texture, sauce is amazingly flavorful, toppings are high quality. I live in philly now and this is the first and last place I hit when I visit home. We got the white garlic sauce on our pizza. The crust was ok, the sauce was bland and for $2.75 per topping, it would be nice to have a couple pieces of pineapple on every slice, but not even one per slice. The worst part for me was the fact that, not only do they not take a card, but they don't tell you this when you order. We're almost to the end of 2020, during the pandemic, more and more places are even asking you to pay with a card, but this shack only takes cash or check. Not a problem if I had been told ahead, but instead they ambush you and point you to their atm and an extra $2.75 in their pocket in atm fees. I will not order from them again read more

Basic, no frills shop with great pizza. Specialty pizza people look elsewhere. The Shack has a down to earth "homely feel" that is basically take-out only; standing room with possibly eat-in for a person or two. Pizza is generally "Rochester style" with a more of a homemade flavor crust and sauce, unlike most locally generic tasting chains in the area. Pizza is generally consistent (which is key) but occasional off nights if owner's not there, I assume. Just be mindful of the minimal parking and pulling back into traffic. 4.5* read more

3/15, worst sub I have ever had , the meat was like they got it from a dog factory or the dollar store , and if you don't have cash you could walk out or use " there ARM , which they get, a % of , please stay away unless you want a bite and give it to your dog , but I honestly your dog would not eat it read more

My wife and I decided to give the Pizza Shack a try after being discouraged by other local establishments. The pizza which was a thin crust was very good, tasty with a decent amount of toppings. The sweet and sour wings were very good: large, meaty and cooked well. Overall the food was very good. Only downfall would be their price, expensive. Pizza is truly an Upstate NY best. Perfect crust (not that air-blown puffy crap - nor the thin cardboard garbage). Sauce is very tasty and plentiful. Toppings are always fresh and plentiful as well. Wings are large and they are the only shop in my experience who can actually cook them well-done to my request, rather then delivering me soggy wings. Sauces are awesome. read more

order from here every so often, usually just pizza. Pizza was decent, as it always is pretty good... today we felt like steak subs too. They were sub par at best. I don't know if they changed what they use. The bread was so soft and soggy, the steak almost seemed like a steakum. Like pressed beef layers, folded up on the bun. Very blah. I do not remember it being like this the previous couple of times that we ordered in the past. Even my 17 year old said, not this place again. Won't be going back anytime soon. Pizza shack has really consistently good Wings. Their sweet and sour wing sauce so good on the wings. It's not goopy and leaves the wings crispy. There pizza is good, but sometimes the crust can be like cardboard. read more

This place is right down the street from my house, and we have ordered from here several times for both delivery and take-out. First, the food is very hit or miss. The first time we ate the food it was fairly good, albeit expensive. In the past 3 years it has gone down hill very quickly. The sauce is very acetic and either way too light or heavy. What really gets me every time is their overall attitude. When I get a pizza here I end up feeling like they are disgruntled because they had to make me a pizza. Last time a worker was standing right in front of the doorway puffing on a cigarette such that I had to walk past his smoke cloud with my food to get out of the place. Nasty. That said, expect to pay $30+ for a large pizza and wings delivered. Add to the fact that they do not take credit cards, you'd better be carrying some cash. There are many other great local pizza places to choose from. read more

I haven't ordered from pizza shack in a long time based upon previous experience. Based upon today's order it will be even longer. The wings were cooked in old oil and kinda tasted like fish, the pizza had crispy crust that was too thick and the sauce had no taste. read more

This is, hands down, the best pizza in NY State that I have ever had. We were so sad when we moved so far away because we weren't near this awesome pizza place. We have literally driven 90 minutes with a cooler in order to get pizza from this place and drove it to back home to another county. Yes, it is that good. They also have awesome mozzarella sticks and potato skins and the employees are really nice. For example, we drove 90 minutes to this place last week to get a pizza. Before driving off we sat in the car for a minute to eat a piece while it was still hot. It was pouring rain out but still the man who sold us the pizza came running out in the pouring rain just to give us plates and napkins. How nice was that? Rare these days. read more

Although this pizza shop is 15 minutes away from my house, and I have several other pizza places within 2 minutes of my house. I always find it completely worth it to take the extra time to drive here. My family and I are a huge fan of thin crust pizza, with an event amount of sauce and cheese, and with specifically artichoke hearts. From experiencing pizza from about 10 pizza places, no one can top Pizza Shack's cheese pizza with artichoke hearts! Additionally, the pizza is always done exactly when they say on the phone it will be done, and the workers are very friendly inside once you arrive. read more
