I grew up in the 60s on Rosewood Terrace, close to where Nino's is on Culver Rd. I remember getting pizza there in the 70s when Nino was running the place. I moved to Texas in '82 and only got back to Rochester a few years ago. I didn't realize Nino's was still in business till just recently. I stopped in there tonight and ordered an extra large Sicilian pie. Nino's son Jimmy is running it now. The place is a liite different inside but the pizza is as good as I remember...that marinara sauce is still the same, flavorful and slightly sweet, loaded with mozzarella and a very generous amount of fresh toppings, all at a very reasonable price. I've traveled the world since I've been gone, even to Italy, and I don't remember pizza better than this. I'm glad they are still around. If you're looking for a great Sicilian pie, look no farther then Nino's... Molto bene! read more

A small to-go pizza place. Parking is on street. There are 2 tables indoors if you want to eat in. The man who helped taking my order was friendly. I ordered a small sicilian. I've been coming to Nino's for 30 years since I was a child and lived in the area. Different than your standard NY pizza and other pizzerias in Rochester but in the best way possible. Thicker crust that is airy and crispy. The toppings that are available are incredible. Don't forget the Locatelli cheese. Always friendly service when picking up the pizza. Sicilian style for the win. Good flavor, excellent crust, reheats well. Walking distance from my house and definitely some of the best pizza in Rochester - what could be better? Oh right, the $10.99 price point for an XL pizza (~4 servings) and the wonderful service! Ours came out to $14-something with pepperoni added on, but it's under the cheese and so, so good. Definitely worth it. A huge variety of topping options for the meat eater (housemade sausage!) to the veggie lover (roasted red peppers yes please!) to the satisfying both tastes (fresh roasted garlic!). Their website says they now deliver, but we weren't sure how so we walked over instead. If you have time to spare, hang out to talk with the owner. I can't remember, but I don't think he's the namesake. You can choose between English, Italian, and Spanish, though! I'll continue to support this staple in my neighborhood. read more

The name of the place is "NIN's Pizza" and it's owned by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. I wrote a song for him, based on his own song "Closer", about his business. Yelp you, and photograph your insides Yelp you, you've got pizza to sell Yelp you, two slices always works for me (But you don't do slices, you only sell whole pies, so..) Having looked at the menu (or rather, little baby furry orange Starlight looked at the menu as you can see from the accompanying pix), I thought we were in for a total of $8 or so, but alas it was "closer" to $10. The pizza at NIN's is extraordinarily gooey and extremely delicious. It'll go on my top list for the whole country, it's that good. It just so happens that the region is blessed with spectacular pizza, but this hits the spot and doesn't miss the mark. I can totally see what all the fuss is about, and think I might like the pizza more if I added more toppings, but that might get expensive. The service here is friendly, and the young guy in particular is really nice. The space is tiny with nowhere to sit, so get it for take out, and I think it's only open from 4pm-10pm. I was very upset that I didn't see Trent Reznor here. But they were offering me hot pizza. Would I bite the hand that feeds me pizza? No. Would I stay down on my knees? Yes, for this pizza. What. You've never been on your knees for some hot juicy thick greasy pepperoni? I can actually swallow the pepperoni whole, it's why boys love me. You should come in and give it a try. Skip the local chain Salvatore's, overpriced and not as good, and skip Papa John's and Pizza Hut and Domino's, which are owned by mega rich corporate types that have no connection to WNY whatsoever, and come here and give your pizza money to locals instead. Yum yum. What does an ambulance say when it's on its way to an emergency? Nino, nino, nino, nino. Let me guess. You don't get my stupid joke. That's fine. OK how about this. What kind of cherry gets popped around the back of this building? A "Nino Cherry." And it takes Seven Seconds. Get it? No? What do you mean it's "Neneh"? What kind of a name is Neneh? OK I'm confused. Sexually. But seriously. Any place that is named after Trent Reznor's band must be great. So get yourself down here. And get closer to fat. One of the top 4 slices in Rochester. Took the time last night to revisit a classic from my days living in the upper east side of Rochester, and boy, was I glad I did. Ninos still makes Sicilian pizza the way it should be made. Fresh dough, expertly baked... super sauce & just the right amout of mozzarella. While some might balk at a Sicilian style pizza, let me just say that the crust was light and airy. Baked to perfection! I've seen so many pizza places change up their recipes & try to compete with the Dominoes and Papa John's customers who expect a pizza to be done in 15 minutes or less. Let's just face it... it's a crime to turn Pizza into fast food. That's why we have McDonalds. I warmed up a slice of last night's pizza in the microwave today, something I seldom do. Much to my surprise, it didn't turn into leather... the pizza tasted (almost) as good as it did last night... something I cannot say about Pontillos, Mark's or the venerable Joe's Brooklyn Pizza. Nino's... I ordered take out from you the other day and the pizza, I have zero complaints. The pizza was a cheese and pepperoni ($14) for a large. Great pricing for a large pizza and you guys use the "good" pepperonis! The sauce was smooth, savory and had the right amount of spices. Now for the gross and comical piece of my order. Medium wings- SO BAD. I almost laughed when I saw how teeny-tiny and pathetic these wings were. I don't know who your distributor is for your wings but you may want to reconsider. The wings were the size of my pinky finger (acrylic nail not included). They were literally the equivalent to the to-go blue cheese container lid. You have got to be kidding me? Do better Nino's. On top of the size issue, the inside meat of the wing was repulsive. I gagged when I took my second bite of my wing. The insides were dark purple and veiny. The wings had a chewy, rubber consistency and typing this is making my stomach hurt all over again. I threw the rest of the wings in the garbage because I was so disgusted. I don't know if it was just a bad batch but I was so disappointed. I know you "get what you pay for" so I don't know if I will ever take another chance and potential illness. read more

I wish I had found out about this place sooner! I actually learned of it through Yelp and I'm so glad I did. I love the North Winton neighborhood but I've always been disappointed with the pizza offerings nearby. But I no longer need to be sad, because now I know Nino's! I got a medium mozzarella and pepperoni pizza and it was perfect. The dough is a little thicker than what I normally prefer, but everything about this pizza was exactly what I was craving. The sauce was delicious, a little sweet and a little tart, and it was cooked to perfection. The price was also really reasonable and one of the cheaper options I've found. Now I know how Italian's make pizza. Nino's is officially my go-to for takeout pizza. This place is bare bones simple in the best way. The pizza place is basically a storefront - large enough to fit a few pizza ovens and on the walls hang old family photos and maps of Italy. Pure tradition. No one really sits down to eat, no slices to go, just pick up orders of killer za. I ordered the Sicilian style, which has a thicker crust - crunchy outside with a fluffy doughy inside. Our pizza was topped with locatelli cheese (go this route please) and prosciutto. The cheese is melted on top of the meat so it's like a surprise bite of salty goodness every time. We were a little ambitious ordering an extra large for two people. I was full after one slice. Also, the pizza was affordable - only set me back ~15 buckaroos. Be sure to check out their website. It has a pretty extensive listing of ingredients and pizza styles, history, etc., which you don't see at the store. And, chat with the owner. Nino's Pizzeria is a hole in the wall. The interior is dated and dark. But it has two things on it's side, and the two things are what really matter for pizza. Firstly is the owner, he's friendly and informative, from Sicily. Secondly, and most importantly, the pizza, it is so good! Very different from NYC style pizza, but this is a plus here. His style is more Southern Italian, less metro NY and it works so well. My favorite, and all I order really, it's the "Gourmet" Style, usually thin, although thick crust is also delicious, with homemade sausages, some veggies and mozzarella. Their Gourmet sauce is chunky and flavorful, and the crust is perfect! I don't know how anything else tastes here, because frankly, their gourmet pizza is all I want! read more

The best pizza in the Culver/University/East area of the city. It's a very unique pizza compared to the typical "Rochester" pizza. Nino's has a thick, soft, easy to chew dough. It's not super dense, so you're not stuck chewing and chewing and chewing (looking at you Pontillos). Their sauce is what stands out the most from you'd typically get in Rochester. It's very dark and sweet, very flavorful. I'm not a huge fan, it's a little sweet for me, but it is good. They use cup-n-char pepperoni, the only pepperoni that should be used (small, thick cut). Overall, a great pizza. The wings were borderline average. I don't expect much from pizzeria wings, and these almost met those expectations. They were soggy/not cooked through, bland, and boring. I asked to cook them extra crispy when I called,and I even opened up the bag and container in the car while I drive to let the steam out - and they were still soggy. The blue cheese was the worst part. It was yellowish and terrible. It looked and tasted like creamy lard. It was a disgrace to blue cheese. read more

The guy working there was a really cool dude; when I called to order and quoted the price of the special as $12 he replied "how bout I give it to you for 9.95?"
