We hosted a graduation dinner in the private room of Pizzeria Da Marco. The staff was unbelievably friendly, responsive and accomodating leading up to the event. The manager provided recommendations on food selections and room layout. Everyone loved the food. The meatballs and eggplant caponata bruschetta were quickly devoured. The pizzas all hit the spot. So I feel bad to write negative review but I came here three times in the past and gave the foods chances and this time I thought it's better to write honestly. Foods were a huge disappointing. Pizza dough was not tasty, sauce was not flavor and pizza was not good at all. To be honest cooking at home with store bought dried pasta and jar sauce are much better than these pastas here and the frozen pizza is even better than this tasteless pizza unfortunately. Mood is neighborly favorite like family comes here, and furniture and lifting are dated. Not the best for the grommet eaters or a date. Especially who knows so many authentic Italian pizza and pasta, true Neopolitan pizza in DMV and NYC, so it was disappointing for this level. I have a friend who lives by Bethesda. When I told him we're were in DC he invited us here. We took the redline to Bethesda and walked about 10-12 minutes. The restaurant is a nice neighborhood pizzeria with friendly service. They do Neapolitan style pizzas. Sizes are perfect for 1-2 people. My wife went with the Solo Carne and I went with the Capricciosa. I liked the Capricciosa, but didn't love it. I preferred the Solo Carne and the Americana, which I got to try as well. Those I'd recommend. I'd also recommend the burrata salad. Our son liked his cheese pizza. read more

Came with friends for dinner here and enjoyed it. For apps, we shared the caponata bruschetta and suppli al telefono. Both were only 3 pieces each, but tasty. The bruschetta was served cold. Unexpectedly sweet and deep flavor. Could eat a bowl of the rice balls... For pizza, we shared spinaci and salsiccia. The spinach one was ok. Not quite as good as the sausage one which had the perfect balance of classic flavors. The spinach overpowered the entire pizza. There was a lot of things I wanted to try though so would definitely come back. This is a very nice place, I'd almost say it's fancy, but it's ok to dress casual. They have an assortment of Italian foods in the menu, I had the pizza. This pizzeria is very popular, but I thought it was okay. I came here with my husband and some friends on a Saturday evening. The place was busy, but we must've gotten there just in time for dinner because we got a table right away with no reservation. Although it was busy, our server tried her best to get our orders in right away. My husband and I ordered Marco's balls (meatballs with tomato sauce) for our appetizer and shared the Solo Carne pizza (tomato-based pizza with pepperoni, sausage and salame). The meatballs were pretty good. Flavorful, but it was a pretty small portion for $9.50. The pizza itself was okay. The mozzarella and the meat toppings were good, but the crust did not hold up well. It ended up getting quite soggy, which was not a texture I enjoyed. I googled to see if Neopolitan pizza is supposed to be this way (a little wet) and it looks like it is. Passed by the place so often and finally made the time to try it, however my party and I were really let down despite some of the reviews we've read. The focaccia had an almost burnt aftertaste and was not pleasant, and looked extremely flat compared to the other focaccia's I've had in the past. The calzone was fine, although I wished it was cooked a little bit more, and the dough fell apart way too easily. The biggest letdown was probably the Spinaci pizza (mozzarella, spinach, pancetta, garlic & ricotta). Despite all the lovely ingredients, I felt like I was just biting into cheese, and I envisioned the pancetta to be darker and crispier (almost thought it was raw for a second). Now, the garlic on the pizza was in fact raw and not cooked at all. As someone who loves garlic, this was a disappointment. The service was really awesome though, everyone was super sweet! Last I checked, all money is just currency. We're to far advance to walk in restaurants that feel unwelcoming! The waitress didn't want to sit us near any others. We opt for the bar, asked if food is being served. Ordered our food the waitress was very short in conversation. SERVICE: The service was excellent. We arrived fifteen minutes prior to opening on a Friday afternoon, however Eric was kind enough to let us in early. We're grateful he did because we dubbed this Pizzeria our favorite. Eric shared his favorite items on the menu and his recommendations did not disappoint. Sadly, I am not a fan. Four of us friends lunched there, and the others seemed to like what they ordered. Not me. I ordered the DaMarco chicken salad which was supposed to have included grapes & pistachio nuts. The slices of chicken breast were dry & tough. Before I returned it, I looked through the salad & found half a grape & no pistachio nuts. I ordered the Mediterranean salad which, to its credit, did come with something more than lettuce and chicken but, alas, the chicken was still tough. Our server didn't refill water too. The foods were decent. The caprese and insalata mista (salad) arrived pretty quickly and were both fresh and tasty. Was Pizzeria Da Marco good? Yes. Was it worth driving nearly 60 minutes in DC traffic? No. I've been wanting to try a Neapolitan style pizza place in the NOVA/DC area, and the reviews and photos for Pizzeria Da Marco looked good. I expected to have to wait since I didn't have a reservation and it was a Friday-night in Bethesda, MD, however, I was surprised that my SO and I were able to be seated immediately. It took a few minutes for our waitress to first stop by, and she was in and out of contact fairly infrequently after that. It really only affected us when it came to running out of water (small glasses) and getting/paying the check. We split an appetizer of their suppli al telefono and a brussels sprouts pizza. The suppli al telefono were fairly sizeable, came out at the right temperature, and were flavorful. However, it would have been a lot better tasting and looking presentation-wise if it was served with maranara sauce. The pizza came out fairly quick, and it had a good presentation, solid crust crisp, and was nice and hot. The sausage and the brussels sprouts went very well together. I failed to realize it was a white pizza (aka no maranara sauce) until I was almost done eating it which is good since I'm usually not a fan of white pizzas. Definitely would recommend. Overall, it's a nice spot to get Neapolitan style pizza and to try something new (or something comforting you're craving). I'd say it's worth a 20-30 minute drive, but not anything longer. read more

I'd passed by this place many times, and finally tried it when my family was staying in a hotel down the street. First, the ambiance and the service are great. Even though they were very busy, we were seated and served right away. Our sever was friendly and very attentive. I hope that perhaps we caught them on a bad night, because the pizza was disappointing. As soon as my youngest son picked up his first slice of pizza, Ann the toppings slid off into the pan. The same thing happened to me and my eldest. We all found that our pizza crusts were soggy at the center. It was to the point that we couldn't just pick up a slice and eat it. We had to start with a knife and fork for the soggy portion, until we could pick up the rest. Mind you, it tasted great. The sauce was delicious, and the toppings were quite tasty--it's just that they ended up in the pan instead of on the crust. The thing is, no matter how good the toppings are, the whole pizza suffers if the crust isn't up to snuff. Like I said, maybe they were having a bad night. After COVID I am trying to connect with friends and we agreed that this was a good middle ground for all of us. Had a great time and the food was also great. They use double zero flour which makes it much lower in gluten content and yummier. As I am gluten intolerant, I really cannot eat much of this but it has been a year since my last pizza and I brought a handful of gluten pills to help. It was worth it. As my nephew said, "this is the best pizza I have ever had, and I'm not even lying" They have other dishes of course, and all of them authentic Italian. This is only one of three pizza places with double zero flour in the DMV and only this place and one other in DC use wood burning brick ovens. Really worth a try. read more

How did we miss this place for so long? We are pizza snobs from NY (sorry!) and sometimes feel a bit disappointed by DC pizza. But this pizza is amazing, reminding us of our recent trip to Rome. The margarita is perfect, crisp crusts and simple ingredients. We had the white pizza too, amazing. Pizza with pesto was a bit oily, which I guess happens sometimes with pesto. But still delicious. We've been going to DaMarco since it opened. We've had most of their specials and many different combinations of pizza toppings. This place is the best pizza in the DMV area. Not only does it have a wonderful atmosphere but the staff is super friendly and makes an effort to remember their customers and make them feel special. Our favorite pizza is the Burrata Con Pesto with mushrooms. It's absolutely perfect! We also get the panzanella salad which is offered in the spring and summer. It's the perfect balance of toasted bread, olives, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes and red onions with salt, pepper and olive oil. If we're really hungry or go with a larger group we'll start with the grilled vegetables, burrata and crostini. It's such a great way to start your meal. We frequently go on Wednesdays when wine is half price. It's such a wonderful restaurant with exquisite cuisine, atmosphere and staff.
