I don't know whether to laugh or cry looking at what was delivered to me. This pizza is an absolute disgrace. The crust is burned in some places and undercooked in others, like it couldn't decide which level of failure to commit to. The toppings are a random mess--onions tossed like someone sneezed them on, olives rolling around like loose change, and sad green peppers that look more boiled than baked. Half of the pizza looks like it gave up halfway through cooking, and the other half looks like it survived a house fire. Pepperoni? Barely there. Cheese? Patchy. Sauce? It was my first time here. Let me start with that. We've walked by this place a dozen times but never made our way in. My family and I are always looking for a new pizza spot to try and AP was the right place and the right time. I'll talk about the space for a minute. It's a small pizza place. It's not meant for groups. They have maybe four or five tables. This is more of a quick bite or grab a slice at the counter before the movies kind of place. If I can wrap up the vibe and the decor in three words, I would use modern, hipster and clean. I kind of dug the feel. It has a tiny bit of grit to it and that's more than I can say for most of Bethesda. So because we started with a group of four eventually joined by my brother-in-law's family of four, we ended up squeezing about eight people into a small booth. This was by choice. But they were accommodating. I wouldn't recommend this place for groups, but the service was outstanding and it felt like an A+. Here what stood out from our order. They have mixed drinks on their menu and if you have an old-fashioned on your menu, I'm going to try it. I really enjoyed mine. The focaccia bread with garlic butter was incredible. I highly suggest you try that if you're gonna come in. Of the two pizzas we got, I thought the plain pie was better than Tony's pie. Ordering food, whether you're sitting down or taking your food to go is also really easy. They have self-serve kiosks and I'm all for that. Back to the service, as I was ordering our food through the self-serve kiosk and the staff was more than happy to give their two cents or answer any questions about the menu. I don't have any real negative notes. I know I gave 4 stars, but there are no fractional ratings on Yelp, unfortunately. I would say somewhere around 4.25 was my gut score. Let me start by saying we were looking for a quick lunch with two kids. The service was fast, but the prices were high! I didn't mind that the pizzas were $18 and $23 each, but four fountain drinks for $16 felt excessive. The biggest surprise, though, was the automatic tip expected on the bill. We actually cleared our own table. Aside from that, the pizza was okay, but the focaccia breadsticks were excellent, served with a creamy dip--for $9, they were worth it. Wow! I order pizza every Friday night and I rotate between a variety of local pizza spots. Tonight AP delivered an impressive pie. The dough had a lightly fluffy center with a perfect chewy crunch. The cheese to sauce ratio couldn't be better. The Calabrian chili is a fantastic topping, as is the classic cheese. The house chopped salad is the perfect accompaniment to this stellar pie. Primarily a Carryout has a small dining area w/booth & bar height table seating. Menu includes "Deck Oven Slices" I gather this refers to the pizza oven. Several varieties of pizza to choose-sold by the slice. I ordered the "Salsiccia" (tomato, mozzarella, provolone cheeses, italian sausage, roasted peppers & garlic bread crumbs.) Delicious! Excellent chopped salad! Most pizza shop side salads are mediocre at best. Mine was delicious and a generous portion (given the upcharge of only $6 with purchase of a slice.) Salad came with a good bit of really good fresh mozzarella, too. My only quibble: wish the online ordering was more precise on timing. I ordered online and the app said my order would take 40 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes early and order was already waiting. I'm guessing it had been ready for a while because by the time I got home (5 minutes away) my slice was cold. Really great pizza spot. You might miss it since it's a hole in a wall on Bethesda avenue across from the Capital crescent parking garage. The pizza does remind me of New York and love the seasoning that they put on top of each of the slices. You do get slices here and you have multiple options at that. Another one of our favorite nights of the week it's pizza night. The boys and I decided to try AP pizza shop's Buona Pie. The pie is pretty good. It has a few different flavors that is comes to well. There is a taste of honey that gives it a bit of a sweet flavor to the traditional pepperoni style pizza which we enjoy. A bit of a downside is the size of the pizza were just above a personal pa pizza but smaller than a traditional size pie, so it is unable to feed three people. To counteract that there is a special going on Uber that if you get one pie, you get a second one free. Final thought is we will order again probably at the restaurant that way we can catch it when it's hot out of the oven. read more

Quality ingredients, without a doubt. That said, it's not worth the price. Price per slice will usually exceed $5, which works out to $40 per pizza. Acceptable maybe on a 5 star hotel room service menu, but not in a walk-in or delivery pizzeria, unless we're talking gold leaf and caviar toppings. ' Bethesdans' food standard is not generally high. Add one of highest retail rent districts in the US and Bethesda's penchant for mediocre food at so-so prices, and you've got the makings of yet another food concept that likely won't manage around here. Advice to management: lower the prices, make more sizes available for delivery. Consider the very tough restaurant environment in Bethesda and retool accordingly. read more

The location is perfect and the set up of the place is unique (they had a Dali painting with pizza slices on the wall! I mean... awesome). I really wish I liked the food more though.
