We had an unexpected stop a few weeks back, we were on our way to pick up my dad from PDX and with traffic being so backup we were diverted onto Sandy Blvd. This unexpected turn brought us past Pizzeria Otto on Sandy Blvd. The exterior entry has the shape of an oven hearth so it peeked our interest. On our way back from the airport we decided to check out the Pizzaria, so glad we did. As you walk in you step right into the dining area, it's comprised of about 4-5 booths and a few tables, it's a small compact space. The kitchen area is open to the public; this is where you will find a huge oven hearth. The menu is very straight forward; they list the pizzas on one page and then salads and drinks on the other. We ordered two pizzas', it was three of us, and we were starving, we started with a standard salad. We found a seat near the kitchen area. You will also notice that the walls are covered with old spaghetti western movie posters, such as "the good, the bad and the ugly", all titles are in Italian. We might have waited 5-10 min at most and the salad and our first pizza was delivered to our table, the pepperoni, we added sausage, very hot, right out of the oven, it was perfectly cooked, with great tasting pepperoni and a nice crust,our second pizza was the Margerhita , also well cooked, great tasting. We added a few Peroni beers. We were all very impressed with the speed and taste of the Pizza, you can tell that the team turns over food and tables quickly due to the small space, but it works. We had a great time, so glad we stopped by. Later that day we realized we have a closer Otto's to us; we cannot wait to return for another round. read more

Pizza was wayyyyyy too salty. We ordered 2 pizzas and they were both almost inedible. My kids were second in line to order so I was going to grab a table ( the only 4 too available) while they ordered but was promptly yelled at that you had to order before sitting down- I've never in my 60 years had that happened to me. In the 5 minutes they finished ordering 2 ladies grabbed the 4 top while avoiding the 3 available 2 top tables. Ownership didn't have anything to say about that so we took our food to go. Man, it's been a RIDE up in Roseway for this particular stretch of business. When my family first moved out here, this is where one of my cousins lived and I remember there being a giant antique store here, a for-real old-man Roseway Tavern, a thai place, and Brickhouse Pizza. Pizzeria Otto moved in a few years later, when Brickhouse and its brick oven were still there, mind you, and there was admittedly some grumbling. But Brickhouse and its Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeyes fans survived through the pandemic and their pizzeria and D's Bar lived long enough to have the landlord evict the both of them. Let's just say landlords had ideas during the pandemic. But what of Otto? Did it bear some of the blame for Brick House's plight? Did a mini chain with spots in Foster Powell and Lake Oz deserve locals' ire? The answer: Not one damn ounce of it. In a town where a chicken parm can still run you $16, Otto built a neighborhood reputation by being a small room where you can come in, order a little margherita and beer for $15 at happy hour, and get the Neopolitan treatment you'd receive at Grana or Pyro without having to fend off tourists. I was among those who side eyed Otto when it first moved in, but being a tiny spot with Italian decor and no TVs means its one of the best places for conversation in the neighborhood and an absolute gem for a quick lunch or dinner. The neighborhood's lost the theater and turned over a bunch of businesses since the pandemic, but Otto has now been here for about 15 years. Not a long time compared to Annie's, Fairley's, the Cameo, Clyde's, Du's or the Sandy Jug, but enough to carve out its own corner of neighborhood relevance. read more

I can honestly say that I'm jealous of the people that live near this neighborhood pizza. As soon as aI walked in, I was greeted by the staff. First thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the Wood fire pizza oven and a nice warm inviting environment. This is by far one of the best slices of pizza that I've had not just in Oregon, but in all the different states that I've been in. Sauce was out of bounce, the cheese had a great taste and pole, and the provolone garlic bread was out of this world. This past Thursday my pharmacy manager authorized us to pick up some happy hour pizzas for lunch. Obviously i haven't experienced the Pizzaria in person quite yet, but the pizza was pretty decent. The crust was very thin. Thinner and less structured than New York style in my opinion however the crust had good flavor and chew. Definitely a good deal for 9.99 a pie. read more

Some friends took me here to celebrate my birthday. I had a great time, the employees were super nice, fun atmosphere. We started with a Caesar salad, which was huge, enough for all five of us to have some with some leftover. It seemed very authentic, it had a very light dressing, parmesan shavings and anchovies on top of it. I really enjoyed it. The pizza? Well, I would have to say okay, but not great. I had the sausage with broccolini, it was decent but not a wow. The crust on all the pizzas seemed sort of floppy. My friend got Hawaiian, I had never tried it, so I did. Not a fave. Another friend got the pizza with balsamic, prosciutto and arugula. Pretty good, but still not a wow. One friend pointed out that they were very busy and probably rushing the pizzas. She brought a few slices home to her hubby. He air fried them and they were much better as they were crispy and the crust was good. Great pizzeria! Everything from my original review still holds true. Updating because we finally tried their homemade gluten-free pizza crust, and it was quite delicious. Very similar texture & chew to their regular crust, which we love. They also have a vegan cheese option, if you'd like a dairy-free pizza. The staff at Pizzeria Otto set a super high bar for our adventure in Portland. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We asked for recommendations and we ended up ordering the beet and pear salad and tribunali pizza. The salad considered it roasted beets, pears, arugula and greens, gorgonzola, candied hazelnuts, and a shallot vinaigrette. It was perfection. I live for a nice salad especially with pears and gorgonzola, but the beets and hazelnuts made this out of this world! The pizza was full of Italian sausage, broccoli raab, and water buffalo mozzarella (which is outstanding if you have never tried it). The pizza was amazing. It was just what we needed. So a sidenote. The restaurant is small. There were a few larger tables to accommodate four people and several tables for two. My boyfriend overheard a family that was waiting for a table to open up and he offered our table and we moved to a smaller table. They were so thankful as was the restaurant staff. They used us a round of drinks, but we were so tired from the travel that we declined. So they sent us with a free beers to go. They didn't have to do this and we were not expecting anything at all. This has been on my list for quite sometime to give a try and it was pretty good. I don't think I would go back again it was nothing revolutionary or mind blowing to try again. Overall the pizza dough was delicious! There was a bit more burnt spots than I would have preferred but the chili oil they offer made me ignore that for the most part the sauce lacked flavor and it just could have been better tasting overall. The building itself has neighborhood parking which is a bit of a pain but the place itself was pretty empty on a weekday afternoon. Awesome casual pizza joint on NE Sandy. I recognized the impressive ceramic pizza oven imported from Naples. Beautiful wood fired pizzas here, we had the pepperoni (tons of meat on the pie). Great char on the crust, and nice chewy texture on the inside. Counter service, some outside tables. All in all, very solid, I would return for lunch or casual dinner. I was taking my mom to try this place as I have heard great things & they were all correct! When we walked up to order there was a very nice your lady and she asked " what can I get you " we ordered out pizzas and my mom got a cider , I asked for a light beer, she went to get the drinks and gave them to us , as I took the first drink of the beer she said " let me know what you think - if you don't like it I'll get you the other option we have ". From there I had a smile on my face & the beer was good, we sat down and about 20 minutes later the pizzas & garlic bread came out, I took a bite of the garlic bread after dipping it into the tomato sauce and it was delicious, the way the garlic puree, and black garlic pesto and other flavors went together was delicious! I got the pepperoni pizza which was equally delicious, the crust had a little crunch and soft inside and was very good! They gave us some spicy oil which had good flavor also. Otto pizza is known for their Neapolitan style pizza and it's my new favorite- I wish I could just order the crust cause it's so good! For pizza size, we order our own cause they are (imo) just too small to split- we have leftovers and get another meal out of it. I mainly get the Margherita and the globs of mozzarella is what I crave- also the fresh basil is great too. B gets the pepperoni and super good meat! We order from the Sandy location; we've only done take-out, but there is about 12 tables that can probably fit a good 30+ people! They serve beer and wine, soda and sparkling drinks. Their salads look yummy, and I really want to try the black garlic bread- been drooling over them. Location seems small cause it's directly on the corner, but the dining room is the biggest. You can watch the workers make the pizzas and it's fun to see. Located off of 67th and Sandy, they also have another location off of 71st and Foster. You can order online and get to go. Save a little room for their dessert: 'Nutella canotto'- sweet baby Jesus this is different and good- love the burnt chocolate. This is our new favorite Napolitano pizza place. Wood fired and not burned, the right amount of crunch and chew, and incredible toppings. They have fresh and gorgeous salads, an incredible collection of wine and beverages to choose from, and options for kiddos. I really enjoy that the full length of the windows in this location are filled with efficient seating. There are plenty of long tables and long booths (!!) for seating a party or family. Plus there are coat/bag hooks at the end cap for each booth - thank you for this feature in a place with months of rain and chill. Excellent pizza in every way. I had the Sausage and Mushroom, my wife had the Wild Mushroom pizza. I've never been to Europe, but my wife is well traveled there. She also really enjoyed this pizza and said it reminded her of pizza she had in both France and Italy. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. Large windows facing Sandy Blvd let in a lot of light even on cloudy days. At the same time it was very cozy. The warmth of their pizza oven probably helps with that. Otto's was lively in a good way. Busy in a good way. Staff were cool too. I loved the Italian movie posters framed on the walls. Anyway, I really recommend Pizzeria Otto even if you're apprehensive about trying a new pizza place. Otto's came highly recommended, and now I know why. Fantastic, thin crust pizza (we're talkin' razor thin, folks!) that won't leave you feeling heavy and bloated afterward. You don't have to worry about carb overload, because this place let's the toppings and sauces do all the heavy lifting, instead of loading you up (or down) with nothing but crust! Our Margherita pizza was just the perfect amount for the two of us, although be warned, as thin as it is, you're better off with a knife and fork, or the tried-and-true fold-and-eat method, or it's going to be a messy affair - particularly if you apply any amount of the wonderful spicy chili oil! It's okay, though: any oil that ends up dribbling down onto your place is just biding its time until you mop it up with the outer crust. Heavenly! Or, since it's spicy, maybe...diabolical?! Just about my only nitpick is being unable to do half-pizza orders, but only because there were several other pies I wanted to try, such as the Pepperoni + Peperoni (hot peppers), but that just means we'll have to return again in the near future. Oh no! Normally, my wife is not the biggest pizza aficionado, so that conversation would usually be an uphill struggle, but she was so utterly enamored with the pizza we ordered here, that I don't think it is going to take much convincing. Now, getting her to order a *different* pizza on the menu...*that* might be a challenge! Is this the best pizza place in Portland?
