I am going to let you in on a little secret. I've been coming here for years, and this place is consistently fantastic! This review is broken up into 2 parts. Pizza (Oven) and Cocktails (Shaker). The Oven part of the restaurant name. When it comes to food, I love pizza and that is what I am going to highlight here. They have a nice selection of standard pizza and 18 different additional toppings that you can add so it is super easy to get a pizza just the way you like it OR create something never before seen. It up to you! Don't forget to ask about the daily pizza pie they are currently offering. I am gluten free. I am not celiac. I actively avoid gluten. Their GF crust is a great option. I remember the first time I got it I asked the server if this was the GF crust and they said it was. I was like amazing! Note to self: Yelp does not support emoji in reviews. The Shaker part of the restaurant name For me, the craft cocktails here are spectacular! There is a half page menu with 9 well thought out drinks. It changes regularly. Is it seasonally? I don't know. There are tasting notes and even the actual recipe for the drink! I've never seen that before. If something doesn't suit your fancy, ask for something off menu. Came to this restaurant during our last trip to Portland and we had a great time. Rustic mix with modern decor. Inside was bright and inviting. We Went right before dinner rush, the restaurant was fairly empty. We were greeted and seated right away. Sat by the window. Nice street view to people watch. Service was very friendly and attentive. We ordered 2 pizzas, appetizers, cocktails, tea and dessert. Everything was good. Food came out fast and Pizza tasted yummy. However, both my husband and I had discomfort in stomach that night after returned back to hotel. Given that was the only place we ate that afternoon, cannot help, we can only assume there were something wrong with the food we ate here... but not 100% certain. Got the maple pig pizza. There's a lot of seating and I enjoyed the vibe of this restaurant. The food was pretty good too. It's more on the thin crust side but it was good. They have a good size menu as well so that you don't feel overwhelmed with options. read more

The crust had a nice char and it looked good, but the bottom of the crust was thin, soggy and limp as soon as it got to the table. The crust almost had a sourdough taste to it. They replaced it with another pizza and it was charred as well. Then the server got us someone else's check at the end. The only good thing about tonight was their roasted beet salad. Having moved nearby to Oven and Shaker in recent years, I have been impressed with their quality and service since COVID. Oven and Shaker has become a pizza parlor I can constantly rely upon and recommend to friends, and I really love the staff. Whether you're taking out or dining in, there is bound to be something for you. They do a good job at rotating speciality pizzas every month, and their normal offerings are always a hit. Recently, friends and I ordered takeaway after a day in the park, and we decided upon the spicy pepperoni. We were all impressed, and two of us even noted that it was the best pizza we have had in Portland. The pepperoni was perfect, and the cheese to sauce to dough ratio was honestly amazing. Just a fantastic place to visit! Oven and Shaker is located in the Pearl. A girlfriend and I visited on one of the last beautiful days of fall. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating and you can smell the cozy wood oven when you enter. Service was great (a bit slow, but excellent engagement!). We ordered unique cocktails that were well-balanced (not too sweet, not too boozy, but boozy enough). I got the Pepper Smash and Angie got the Smile and Nod. We shared the must-have Nostrana salad (I'm salivating thinking about) and the goat cheese pizza. Both were excellent! I need to come back and try other items on the menu. Found this place during wing week with a funny tik tok advertising their lemon picatta wings! My mom use to make us lemon picatta pasta growing up so it was an instant yes, wings were super good, only caveat is I wish they would've tossed them in the sauce vs sitting them dry on top of it cause I was tryna drag those guys through the sauce and spoon it up and it was a lil rough but super yummy! Also tried the meatballs and the La Fettunta bread, super tasty, that Parmesan layer is THICK lemme tell ya (I ended up brushing a little off it was a lot). The meatballs were a little cool for my taste, I wish they came out a bit hotter, one of them was a little tough, again still super yummy, but my only negative. Not only is their food great, the service has been prompt and friendly every time we've been here, and NO TV!! This would be a good date night place, or really for anyone anyone wanting a calmer, quieter place to eat on game nights. Oven and Shaker is a trendy, upscale establishment serving very authentic Neapolitan style pizza, along with a variety of drinks. We were part of a large party, and the service was very good throughout. The thing about Neapolitan pizza, which I'm not a fan of, is that the crust never really gets crispy -- it's always floppy and pliable, sometimes bordering on doughy. With that in mind, my review is based on other pizzas I've had in the PDX area, many of which have been produced with a lighter, crispier, crust. (I like my pizzas the same way a certain famous east coast pizza reviewer likes them) I tried two different pizzas -- the Margherita, and Pepperoni & Mushroom. I'm not a big fan of mushrooms, but the pepperoni had a good spice to it, and the crust seemed to hold together a little better on this one than the Marg (although the center was very sloppy). I'd give this one 4.5 stars. It was the Margherita that I was most looking forward to, but I found it to be a bit of a let down. I would say the center of the crust was more done than the other, but still with a ton of floppiness, which caused the very runny tomato sauce to drip right off of each slice. It was okay, but definitely did not dazzle the taste buds like Margs I've had at other locations recently. 3.5 stars for this one. I would definitely come back, because it does have a cool vibe to it, but they just don't serve my favorite pizza style. read more

We stopped by during Happy Hour and it did not disappoint. The crispy chickpeas were well seasoned and crunchy, and the arugula salad (which was regular sized) was fresh and well made. The lemon vinaigrette gave it a summer taste as well. The Margherita pizza wasn't as good as it was when I use to pick up To-Go during the pandemic funny enough, but it was still was decent and looked great, especially as a happy hour price. We ordered a couple of pizzas and a couple of beers. I like how Oven and Shaker offers 8oz pour for beer because sometimes that's all I need to accompany my pizza. The price was high, $29, but worth it! Nice and garlicky with low salted prosciutto, maybe a little too much arugula but it tied together well. The server we had the day of our visit (myself and a girlfriend and her new baby) was uncomfortably rude and passive aggressive. I would never go back purely due to the wildly inappropriate comments made when we were simply trying to enjoy our meal while catering to a growing baby and a little one's behavior (really we just didn't know how long we had to dine-in and were respectfully communicative of that). In the end, the server made multiple jabs to make us feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable despite our efforts to empathize on staff shifts, bad days, etc. The manager tried to offer us a comped meal next time but the experience was so uncomfortable and out of line that I would never go back nor recommend this restaurant. I am a local pizza joint critic and can say there are much better pizzerias in Portland for a better price point and positive dining-in experiences.
