    Dove Vivi pizza
    JP B.

Had the benefit of sitting outside on a beautiful summer evening, but nothing can deny the delicious pizza served at Dove Vivi. The crust perfectly accentuates the fresh toppings. I really enjoyed the more traditional soppresata & peppers/onions but the corn (with lime juice) topping was my fav. I grew up in and around NYC and appreciate all kinds of great pizza. This is certainly different, but - if you're a pizza lover like me - it's very, very good and deserves a try. Thanks to Amanda for the attentive service as well!

Food and service sooo good with great relaxed setting and good playlist. Beer salad was refreshing and pizza amazing! Cornmeal crust is excellent.

Walking inside it's a cozy spot with lots of light. Nice n casual vibes. The pizza just has one size and isn't available by the slice but that's okay! You want to have the leftovers of this goodness and can do a half n half. The cornmeal crust is thick, flavor and yet buttery. The corn and sausage pizza is an unexpected standout. The sweetness of the onions with all the toppings really elevates everything. The pesto was the perfect accompaniment--the creamy ricotta with the basil is amazing. Service was so kind and attentive. There isn't much in the way of beer or cider options (just 1 cider) but you won't want to waste the room when there's incrediblepizza to be had!

Me and my brother walked in at around 5:30 after work and since it was a nice day we decided to sit outside. It wasn't too busy. Once seated we took 10 minutes to look over the menu and decided what we were going to order. We ordered 2 half half pizzas, one to take home and one to eat there. We got our food in 10-15 minutes of ordering. Ordered the Half Pepperoni Classico Pizza and Half Roasted Olive Pizza to eat there, both options were delicious. Their pizza crust is made of cornmeal, which I expect it to be drying when eating but it wasn't. The roasted tomatoes on both sides were juicy and well seasoned. The box of pizza that we took home was a hit in with the family as well. Especially with my father who is picky. He had both Sausage and Mustard Greens Pizza (daily special) and Corn Pizza. He personally came to tell us that it was good and how filling it is after two pieces. The ambiance and service were a 10/10, loved the servers there. They were welcoming, nice and easy to talk to. The pizza was quite filling and we only could get through 4/6 slices, so they packed the leftovers for us.

Special! Half Elote, Half Banh Mi.

This place is great! The pizza is made with a cornmeal crust and a bit thicker, more filling pizza. I love the variety of toppings they use. The pizza is heavy and I usually only eat two slices. Due to the style of pizza, it can be a little dry as a bite depending on your toppings. I like to have some salad to balance it out. A little wine doesn't hurt either. The staff is friendly and helpful. Their sign up high is just a heart, love it - but it's easy to miss. It's between the food mart and the dry cleaners. It has a nice patio out front. The specials can be even better than the regular options. The banh mi was amazing.

This is what you are buying. Thick, dry, cornmeal crust, with next to no sauce, and pretty average toppings. I had to add a fair amount of olive oil to balance it out. And the distribution of the toppings was just weird. Here... have 7 pieces of pepperoni, stacked right on top of one another. Pass the water.

New York and Chicago are still trying to catch up. But we are in the Pacific Northwest, nowhere near Loui's Pizza or Buddy's Pizza (Detroit pizza staples). So many times, what tries to pass off as "Detroit style" falls miles short. Then came "Ranch" where I stood outside and screwed up enough courage to try yet another Detroit style pizza. The interior was small, one wall lined with tomato sauce cans, the menu was bolted to a wall. The smell took me back and that gave me some hope. The pizza arrived at the table, the wife and I have varied tastes so we each ordered a quarter pizza. Mine was pepperoni, the wife had a veggie. The pizzas looked right, square, caramelized crispy edges, heavy toppings... and then on the side of the plate was this cup of ranch dressing. Duh! "Ranch" obviously has to have a good ranch, right? I dipped my pinky finger in the ranch and took a taste. You would not think one ranch can be so far ahead of the others, but ranch is the place for ranch, as well as pizza. My first bite brought a smile to my face, it was just, right in every way that a Detroit pie should be. I have been back to try their #4 pie with sausage and ricotta, and I am looking forward to more trips. If all that was not enough, the service was friendly, the food came out so quick (about 10 minutes) and the place was nice and clean.

If you're in or planning to be in Portland, Oregon, I respectfully and enthusiastically recommend you include Pizza Kat in your considered alternatives. A thin, flexible, and tasty-all-by-itself crust. Tomato sauce that adroitly walks the lines between sweet and acidic, and between supporting the other elements well, fading into obscurity, and overwhelming those other elements. The right amounts of the right cheeses. And fresh, tasty toppings. (Sweet Italian sausage not dominated by garlic and mushrooms worth eating on their own, for two delicious examples.) Even better, prices are reasonable, and delivery is available. We had some delivered to our hotel, and it arrived almost as hot and tasty as we would have expected were we at a table near the ovens. There are other pizzas worth eating -- including the thicker-crust "deep cut" slices available before and after select shows at Revolution Hall. But when you want the thin-crust version done right, Pizza Kat will leave your taste buds and tummy purring, without clawing the life out of your wallet.

Unfortunately, this was both our first and last visit. I don't think I've ever disliked a pizza before, but this may be the first one I would genuinely call bad. I enjoy wood-fired pizza and don't mind a little char, but somehow this pizza tasted noticeably bitter despite having very little visible charring. Whether it was the lack of sauce, the sauce itself being quite bland, or simply an imbalance of flavors, the end result just wasn't pleasant. The biggest issue is the value. A $25 cheese pizza doesn't need to be life-changing, but it should at least taste better than Costco's. In this case, unfortunately, it didn't. If your goal is to enjoy great pizza, I'd recommend one of the many other pizza spots in the area instead.

Overall, I thought it was a really solid New York-style slice. Thin, foldable crust, a nice crunch on the bottom, and a chewy interior--exactly what I look for in a classic slice. The cheese and toppings tasted fresh, and I especially appreciated that they offer half slices, which made it easy for my husband and me to try a few different varieties without committing to full slices. That said, I think my expectations may have been a little too high going in. The pizza was definitely good, but I wasn't quite blown away the way I expected to be based on all the hype. For me, the cheese were the weakest part--wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't stand out compared to some of the other pizza spots we've visited around the country. Sauce was just okay, I like mine a little more flavorful. The vibe was fun and memorable. They were blasting metal music when we walked in, which definitely gives the place some personality. The employee helping us was incredibly friendly, offered recommendations, and even suggested other places for us to check out while we were in town. If memory serves me correctly, they also seemed to have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options, which is always nice to see.
