This is a good pizzeria. I went for the first time in Jan 2023. They pizza is all woodfired and 18" so the pies are a good size. It is thin crust and I prefer a thicker crust, but it is still tasty. We also got the pistachio gelato. The gelato had little bits of pistachio, chopped basil leaves, and a little olive oil. I think the best time to go is late in the evening. As near as I can tell, they are always busy. There were times I saw 45 min waits to get a table and didn't go because of it. When we finally did go, we thought we would beat the crowd getting there before 6 on a Saturday night. No, we didn't. We had over a 2 hour wait for a table. They have 9 tables and a bar which they also seat as they would the tables. However, they have multiple tables outside. The outdoor seating was not available as it was a January night when I we went. The key may be going in the Spring-Fall when you can sit outside. They offer a 10% discount for police and military, which is really nice. read more

Tried this place again , with some local friends. Restaurant was extremely hot inside with no AC. Pizza came out burnt and we were told this is normal, and we should just try it. We tried it and it tasted burnt. Server never showed back up. read more

I once enjoyed this place but have found that the restaurant's charming decor and delicious food are not enough for the experience one must endure think Soup Nazi. Waiting two hours or more to be seated is the norm, but after being on the digital waitlist for 50 minutes, I was notified that my table for 2 was ready. However, When I arrived at the restaurant, they told me I had to wait because my son, age 6, was the second guest. They couldn't seat us at the bar, so we had to wait until a table opened. I ended up staying for another 30 minutes, and during that time, the host asked us to wait outside in the 38-degree weather. As a warning for parents of children with autism or sensory processing difficulties, this restaurant is not conducive or accommodating for children in general. However, they do have a tasty kids' menu. Further, the environment is overstimulating, and seating is tight to pack in more customers. The crowdedness has been exacerbated to the point that anyone who's not a string bean is forced to enter seats sideways, sometimes on tiptoe, and invade a neighbor's space in one of two ways: by butt or by crotch. The hostess also asked me as I was trying to enjoy dinner with my 6-year-old son. If I could move and had to pick up my son and move his chair so she could sit a party behind us. *note: my son is special needs and has a hard time walking. Additionally, it is worth noting that the restroom is only accessible by walking through the kitchen space; often, workers run about, and it is pretty crowded. On most occasions, the staff has been incredibly nice, and that has made the wait tolerable, but on this occasion, the waiter was quite literally yelling at me when I asked questions and was not attentive to the table after the order was placed. Because of this, I would opt for take-out, or skip going to this restaurant altogether because making it yourself would require the same amount of time and less effort/ anxiety!! read more

I'd been hearing great things about Pizzeria Ruby, so was excited to head down on a recent Saturday night when we didn't have much planned and we could manage a wait (no reservations, no call ahead seating). The dining area is small with ~10 tables total plus bar seats (which are seated by the host, so not open seating). When you arrive, you add yourself to the wait list using the tablet. From there, you can order a drink from the walk up counter. My overall assessment, the pizza was good, but not a 2 hour wait good (we literally waited two hours). We knew it would be a wait, but didn't expect that. The best part of our wait was treating ourselves to some gelato while we waited (it was literally freezing outside - January - but by the time we were seated, we still had plenty of appetite for dinner. They mentioned they were looking at another location- which may help with the volume of people! I'd visit again, if i thought the wait would be lessened - or when Hale Fellow next door starts dinner service and there are alternate options if the wait is that long again. read more

I visit the Northwest Arkansas area a few times a year and finding quality food is something I strive for every trip. Before Pizzeria Ruby, finding a good old school pie was not so easy. Needless to say I am thrilled to have found this place. On my most recent trip I came here directly from the plane with my daughter and my mom. We shared a pizza, meatballs, salad, and wine and it was outstanding! It immediately brought those comfort food feelings to my mouth and stomach. You could taste the high quality ingredients they use. And beyond flavor, the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy each others company and being at work. It was nice to see everyone getting along and having fun. We arrived right as they opened, along with 3 other parties. I can tell this is a locals joint that people expect to get busy. They were completely full with a wait within 30 minutes of opening. That tells you everything in my opinion. Even though I try to seek out new restaurants on my visits, I'll be returning to this classic but upscale, locals vibe pizza joint every trip I take, and I am already looking forward to it. read more

The food was spectacular. Probably the best pizza I've had in NWA... or ever. We had a pizza (forgot the name of it), a Caesar salad and a Blue Cheese, all were delicious. The restaurant is a little bit "quirky" as they charge $2.50 for a drink, but don't offer refills (as the sodas are canned or bottled). This was a big turn off for me. The atmosphere was youthful & lively. Very loud between the music & the customers sitting in close proximity. Didn't mind the noise, just don't bring your grandparents. We went on a Saturday night, we joined the waitlist ahead of time and it took about 2.5 hours for us to be seated. This is a hard one to rate for me. I am a pizza simpliest. I struggle when people make pizzas "too fancy". However, this was a cool little restaurant, off the beaten path. The building was as nice and a throw back to old pizza joints. If you want a simple pizza this is not the place. They have only one size, large, and have lots of very good toppings. Amazing pizza, definitely some of the best in NWA. The nice bread is a great started. I usually get the Spicy Italian Boyfriend, but have tried a few of the other specialty pies that offer and you really can't go wrong. Their drinks are good. My friend ordered an amaretto sour and said it was one of the best ones they've ever had. This place is ALWAYS busy. So make sure you plan plenty of time to wait. Or order for takeout. Second time there for my wife and I. First time was a while ago, people seemed friendly. This time, the waitress we had didn't seem to want to serve me at all! She finally approached the table and immediately started addressing my wife. She greeted her directly, but not me, then asked my wife what "we" wanted to drink, never once asked me at all, nor looked at me, though I was closest to her. I waited to see whether she would ask me and she continued to look straight ahead and my wife. She did this throughout our ordering and I got really annoyed. I got even more annoyed as I watched her do the opposite during multiple interactions with the couple next to us and directly in front of me. Others bright our appetizer and food. She didn't check on us for long stretches, but she did the other tables. I even had to get up and go ask for a utensil because she maybe came once to ask my wife if things were ok. At the other tables, she asked the man directly and the woman directly each time right in front of me. My wife and I discussed it throughout our meal and I shouldn't have had to deal with that. She finally started addressing me right before it was time to pay. I was over it by then. All of the staff look and seem progressive, but what I have learned in my life, is that sometimes the ones like that are the worse when they actually encounter people who don't look like them and they are clearly uncomfortable with interactions. All of the social grandstanding and bumper stickers don't change people's real hearts. This wasn't my first experience like that, but I was very surprised by it there. Crazy part is that still didn't shortchange her on the tip and I tip well. If we go there again, I wouldn't want that waitress at all. Food wasn't worth that experience. read more

We got to the shop at 3:50pm and in the door at 4pm and by 4:24 the line was out the door and all over the front patio. Service was warm fast and efficient. We had two Italian margaritas each, they were excellent, not too sweet and had just the right amount of alcohol for its price point. The pizza was delicious, the sauce the meats both succulent and the crust was amazing. Hand tossed dough just has a different flavor to us. The shop has an open kitchen and it runs with full steam and a smooth flow. We'll be back soon. As someone who's worked in pizza shops all over Chicago this place hits just the right spot for that hometown memory of excellent taste. Ask anyone who knows me, pizza and burgers are my go-to for lunch or dinner. We could even be at a fancy-ish restaurant and if I see pizza or burger, that is what I go for. That said, I have been to almost all the pizza joints in NWA. So when I heard that Ruby's was opening in Johnson. BOOM, out the door to try this place for dinner. The atmosphere is good. It reminds me of a back-street restaurant in Italy. Not too flashy. Not too trendy. Comfortable. Easy on the eyes. Enjoyable. Lots to look at. They also have a open kitchen, which I prefer and like watching them make food. My wife and I split a small Caesar salad (it was plenty big enough for us both). The waiter recommended getting the meatball on it, which sounded weird, but we went for it. #GoodCall #seriously lol. I never would have ordered this, but we are glad we did! It worked very well with a less-than-impressive-but-yummy salad. In fact, I think it improved the salad. We then ordered a stout beer. Fab! Then a Pizza (all pizzas are served NY style - large 18"). We got the Fenway pizza (homemade sausage, roasted red & green peppers, onion, fresh mozz, provolone, red sauce, oregano). A very delicious combination. It arrived a bit late because our server forgot to fire it, but we only waited about 20mins for the pizza, so no biggie to me. That is about how long it takes to make a pizza from scratch anyway. Now, when it arrived, it looked very good and tasted pretty good. It had the right amount of toppings and they were yummy. The pizza with it's double cheese was not soupy which can happen with too much cheese. The dough was cooked all the way (I say this because some places have a hard time with cooking their dough the whole way through). SO, a solid pizza. However, a few things were lacking. The crust, though homemade, was bland and boring. I think the crust was too big around the topping -- that is preference on my part; I like more toppings and less bread. The sauce was under-seasoned for pizza sauce. In a word, bland. Pizza sauce is supposed to be exciting, but Ruby's was not. If these two issues were fixed, this pizza could be the best in NWA. For now, I say it is at best the third best pizza behind Marley's Pizza & MJ's. For these issues, I drop it only a 0.5 star because the pizza was better than average. So, why go the whole star down? 2 more reasons: 1) the staff 2) the atmosphere Let's start with #2 - atmosphere. WAIT!! Didn't I say the atmosphere was great above?!? Yes, I did. However, there was a flaw. There is a HUGE tv above the bar. Normally, not a problem. However, the evening we went, there was a movie on that was very profane and very gory. Not exactly family friendly. So, I have to ding them for this, but not too much because this is easily fixable. Play sports or something else that I would be ok with my child seeing. Back to #1 - the staff. All were friendly and helpful. We even had a chef come chat with us and apologize for the delay of our pizza. I appreciate that so much! So, why do I ding on the staff? Well, when I was trying to get a comparison of how they view their pizza with the competition, I got a poor response. I mentioned that I love Chicago-style (e.g., Marley's). This is partially because I lived in Chicago for many years and fell in love with this style. However, after I said this, I was immediately insulted by our server that I like "pizza soup" and not real pizza. "Here at Ruby's we make real pizza that is light-years better than soupy pizza," was the comment. Yikes! It would have better to just say the pizzas are different, because they are. I let this slide because style is a preference. But then, after eating, our server asked how the food was and how it compared to other pizzas I have had in NWA, and I told him that this was a good pizza, but I personally think Marley's is better. He got visibly upset with us and walked away. Yikes #2! I truly did like the pizza (as I said above). And I plan to return to eat again. But, this reaction was not good. He at least could have let me explain WHY. But, he was apparently done with me. For that, I have to ding Ruby's. Y'all need to be ok with feedback. All in all, good pizza, good atmosphere, mostly friendly staff. I would go with a 3.5 star, but I think 4-stars is more accurate than 3. We plan to return for pizza in the future. The vodka sauce pizza and any of their Buffalo pizzas are to die for. Its seriously the best pizza I've ever had! Same for the meatballs and Caesar salads. The atmosphere is fun, the drinks good, and it's just a fun place to be with nice staff. The reason I gave 4 stars is because of the wait times. It's impossible to get in immediately if you ho past 4pm. Prepare to wait 1-2hrs for a table! The atmosphere was unique and the music selection was pleasant. Some of the servers sang along with the music. The appetizer Nice Bread was delicious and chewy and the best part was the oil and balsamic reduction. Mix. The $5.99 for the 4 small pieces of bread as an appetizer was a little salty in price. The Huckleberry Lemonade really would not be called lemonade. It was refreshing but had little to no flavor of lemon and was odd that it included club soda or seltzer water. Something with fizz. I drink lemonade to for go the carbonated beverages. Menu should detail this is their spin on lemonade and not traditional lemonade. The most disappointing part was by far the burnt bottom to the pizza. Hot it was not unbearable my husband said. But cold it tasted of nothing other than char. I ate 1 piece of pizza at the restaurant because that was all I could manage. Threw the rest out.. Not sure if they were busy. Lost track of time, or that is the normal. I will continue to watch the posts and see if it is the norm. Somewhat disappointed after reading the reviews. read more
