This is one of our favorite pizza spots in the Triangle! The space is small, the restaurant is popular so be prepared to sit close to others. They have one of the best salads...make sure you order the Kale Salad. In terms of pizza, our favorite pizzas are the spicy lamb meatball pizza and the sweet fennel sausage. Pro tip, ask for the chili oil to drizzle on top of your pizza or as a dip on the side. If you are not full after all the delicious pizza, save room for the zeppole for dessert! They are essentially Italian churro balls. It does take extra time to prepare so order ahead. read more

When we've passed by Pizzeria Toro in the past at around dinner time, they always seem to be completely full. The pizza itself takes a bit long to make since they make it fresh in their wood-fired oven. Food: We ordered the Lex's Favorite Bacon and Sweet Fennel Sausage Pizzas. The Lex's Favorite Bacon Pizza was topped with bacon, bechamel, red onion, arugula, and grana. We loved how generous they were with the arugula, as this allowed for each bite of pizza to be accompanied with a refreshing crunch. The bacon and red onions went well together, and the white sauce gave the pizza a lighter taste compared to a heavier red sauce. The Sweet Fennel Sausage had a great balance of flavors, and the sausage, peppers, cheese, and sauce all complemented each other so well. The sausage was the best part and had a nice, mellow sweetness along with a salty bite to it. The crust also had a great crunch and was flavorful, especially when paired with their chili oil. Overall: Pizzeria Toro served us some amazing wood-fired pizzas, and we can't believe we waited this long to try their food. I recommend eating it with the sauce and fruits because they go so well together. Definitely a dish you should try if you have never had pig ears before. The pizzas were all really good. My favorite was the sweet fennel sausage red pizza because I found the peppers to be very savory. Next up was the chanterelle mushroom which was super good with its fior di latte cheese. I ordered a highly recommended prosciutto and herb pizza. The cheese was barely melted and there was a funky tasting herb that threw the taste of the pizza off. My friend confirmed the off flavors and I brought the leftover pizza home and my girlfriend agreed with the weird taste. The other pizza had sausage and was very good. The $8 dollar Stella draft was not very cold and was almost flat. The service was good and the restaurant was not busy. $70 plus dollars for a couple of pizzas and draft beers seems kind of expensive I guess that's what high inflation does to consumer goods. read more

I was only in town for two days and no fewer than three people told me I needed to try this pizza place. My Airbnb host even said she wasn't a huge pizza fan but it's fantastic and they patron the restaurant regularly. It was a Sunday night. Full but not a long wait. I skipped all that and sat at the bar. I had a pizza to myself with jalapenos and bacon. It was what I assume to be a pretty standard medium pizza that could easily feed two people. I ate the ENTIRE THING. Almost without realizing it because it was so good. I got the wine that was on special that night from Italy. I can't remember exactly what it was but it had a bit of a kick like a Carmenere or Malbec (I say this but then I had a picture of the bottle. My memory likes to keep me on my toes). So so good. Chatted with a couple bartenders and a couple different guests at the bar. I never felt rushed, like I was waiting too long, or awkward in any way. This truly was a great experience and I highly recommend. A note: I was visiting from Seattle. Something about this place felt...familiar... come to find out after talking with the bartender more that this is closely related to Serious Pie (another pizza place) in Seattle! Agree with others on the sub par service. I am visiting from out of town, ordered pizza and salad to go to take to my hotel. When I got there, I was abruptly told to go to the back room for my to-go order. I sat at the back bar for a while without being acknowledged while the staff member did other tasks. When they finally came to me and i told them I had a takeout order, they just nodded to a shelf with a couple bags sitting on it and I had to figure it out. Wild for a place that adds a service charge for takeout. Pizza was decent. I regret almost listening to those reviews. 5/5 pizzas: we got 1 red sauce pizza (prosciutto with olives) and 1 white sauce (cremini mushrooms with garlic), and this was a heavenly combo. While these are "thin crust" pizzas, the crust had a good amount of bite and the pizza slices were not too dough-y either. These aren't pizzas with hella toppings, but the few they have harmonize so well. You can tell there was thought behind these topping pairings. 5/5 crispy pork ears*: this is not for everyone, especially if you're averse to strange textures. My sister thought the pork ears were too "wiggly" but loved the sauce it came in. I personally liked the contrast between the wiggliness and fried crunch. They balance it with the acidity from the (divine) fruit sauce (an assortment of reduced grapes, cherries, etc). 5/5 ambiance: in the center of the restaurant, there's a massive pizza oven so you get the see the open kitchen in action. It's dim lighting which is great for low key date night or any get togethers, really. It can be a bit loud though. 4/5 service: the place can get crowded and is understaffed, so it can be hard to get someone's attention if you need something. What a good choice today. I have been, but not in a long time. We got here at ~ 1145 Sunday, light traffic, but eager and energetic staff. I love the smell of the wood, and the open kitchen, featuring the pizza oven. The tables are simple and inviting for either a couple, or larger parties. We had 4 people, two littler ones and us. I think the pizza menu was a bit daunting for our 7 year old girl, but the results say everything. She ate nearly half her pizza. Not a huge feat for one, as all pizzas are about enough to feed one hungry adult. That is perhaps the best part, though, because you get to try 4 pizzas!! Spicy meatball and kale, prosciutto and olive, venison sausage, and just cheese. OMG Let's just say this, when is the last time you ate all the crust, or any crust. This is not just a delivery part of the pizza, but the last delicious bite. Our server was awesome, and upon him clearing the plates, there was one last piece of crust left on there. I told him I wanted it, and he laughed. Funny, but my favorite bite of th meal, because with just the crispy bit of crust left with a bit of olive oil, I tasted the rosemary in the crust that was awesome. Loved it. Thx Joel! All pizzas are solid, so pick what you're in the mood for. They do have a small selection of beers and wines, but they also carry Blenheim's Ginger Ale. What desserts and appetizers I tried are good, but I haven't tried them all. Simple decor, bench table center or high tops on one side and booths on the other. My favorite pizza place in the area. Just a forewarning, they only seat full parties and automatically add 20% tip for every bill. I imagine college students from other countries don't understand American tipping culture. One of my favorite pizza places! I love a thin crisp crust and Pizzeria Toro delivers every time. We had the fennel sausage with roasted peppers and provolone cheese and it made my night. I paired it with a Wicked Weed Pilsner and it was just right. Food: Great flavors, fresh, and I always split my pizza with someone and leave full. Menu has some quirky but sounded good type of items like venison, duck gizzards, etc. Also more mainstream items, I like that they have items for the more adventurous palate . My favorite pizza place yet! I've only ordered to go here but can't wait to try it in person. The mushroom pizza was so good. Honestly was tempted to eat the whole pie myself. The pizza is perfectly flavored and toppings were fresh. The olive oil was not too much and the bread had that perfect stone oven taste. We had the sausage pizza that was tied to the mushroom. When reading through all of the Yelp reviews, the one I can say describes Pizzeria Toro the best, would be Yelp Elite, Ron's. That is probably the best description overall, but I'll add my own excerpts to it. FOOD: Clam pizza and local craft beer (can't remember from where but it was a lager). I mean, the food is good, but would I claim this to be the best pizza ever? I can't. It's hipster pizza with bourgeois flare. I met up with Yelp Elite, Ravi, to try this place out for the first time, 2 days after Christmas, on a Tuesday, and the place was packed with a 30 min wait and it seemed like everyone dining inside were wearing their best attire they recently aquired from Saks or Niemann or Vineyard Vines. I was in a new collegiate hoodie with jeans and felt very underdressed...at a pizza place!! They accept no reservations, do not take call ahead seating, and it's a roll of dice as to how long you'll wait due to the extremely limited space inside. When you're seated, you will value what table real estate you have because there isn't much to work with. If you're thinking of having your phone, keys, or anything else on that table with your food and drinks, believe me... you won't have it. Each table maximizes the small space inside by giving you JUUUUUUUST enough room to get to your seat with limited wiggle room. You will hear every conversation coming from your dining neighbors, too, since they will be less than an arm's length away from you. As for the pizza...I enjoyed the clams on it. I mean, I'm sorry but this is not a pizza spot I can enjoy and is stupid expensive for what you get. The service was fine, with no long waits or follow ups but when your invoice reaches the table, be sure to read it. An automatic 20% tip is added to your bill and then...the tax is added. So, you're paying tax on the tip, too. Should be some shame in this and if anyone would like to see the calculated proof, feel free to ask Ravi. He'll confirm it also. That's bushleague greed. In addition, if you want to customize any pizza, be prepared for a $2.00 customization charge. OVERALL SCORE: I'm gonna be nice and give PT 3 Stars just because the food wasn't awful and the service was acceptable. But also, it wasn't exceptional. Great pizza, fun service and an amazing dessert! This is a small physical location, it was busy but not totally packed. There is a very cool long table where groups can mingle and then high tops along the side. The kitchen is open so you can watch them making the pizza in the big oven. This is wood fired, Naples Italy style pizza with the bubbly delicious crust. I ordered the margherita pizza with a lite tomato sauce. It was so good, everyone enjoyed a piece and agreed it was one of the best pizzas. Hubby and son had the special of the day which they said was delicious, we ate a lot of pizza! We couldn't resist and ordered the Zeppole (donuts)for dessert. They come out hot with chocolate and vanilla custard sauce. So good, they were gone in a flash and we honestly considered eating the rest of the sauce with a spoon! The tables are a little close so be prepared to sit close. Excellent pizza. My husband and I popped in on a Saturday night around 7:00 for dinner but there was a 30-minute wait, so we hit the bar. I got a Bellini, which was good, and my husband really liked his beer (Trophy Brewing IPA). The service at the bar was great and after we finished our drinks we went back to the front of the restaurant to wait out our reservation. We were seated at the community table about five minutes later, closest to the kitchen and wood fired oven. It was fun watching the staff form the dough, make the pizzas, and cook them in the oven. I ordered the San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella (essentially a margherita) and my husband ordered the sweet fennel sausage, roasted peppers, and provolone. They drizzle olive oil over the top of the pizzas and sprinkle with sea salt, which was an extra touch I loved. The pizzas are filling but won't weigh you down, and are comparable to those I have had in Italy. An adult can definitely finish an entire pizza to themselves if they are hungry. What an unfortunate day, celebrating a graduation and the service was absolutely awful. Starting with the hostess, who had a frown and was not friendly at all, bothered to help or seat us. I have never met such an unfriendly and un welcoming hostess. Then our waiter took forever to even come take our order for water (after waiting over an hour for a table) our half our order arrived 25 minutes after the other half so some people ate while everyone else watched we had I think they just forgot the rest of our order and then started making it.
