CASARECCIA - 20 Crushed San Marzano tomatoes, house-made sausage, rapini, fior di latte, basil, garlic, preserved chilis

Update 3.8/5 Losing 0.2 from overcooked pasta and disappointing dessert experience. on my third visit, I finally tried their house made pasta. I tried Calamari Alla Griglia, Tonnarelli Pescatore, Gnocchi Lombardi, two flavour Cannolies and Cocco Bello this time. Calamari Alla Griglia : Grilled calamari, Romesco sauce, chilis, sliced almonds, lemon, was nice and light yet still got good flavour going on. I'm not sure if it's because it was in take out container but the portion felt little but on smaller side for the price tag. Would definitely recommend it if the portion was bigger or price tag was little lower side. Tonnarelli Pescatore : Tonnarelli, mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, white wine and tomato sauce, was decent pasta dish. Don't get me wrong. It was full of delicious and FRESH seafoods (we all know it ain't easy to receive decent fresh seafood in TO restaurants). However, the pasta was way passed al dante state. Since their pizza was so impressive, I was expecting to receive perfect Italian al dante pasta but unfortunately when I tried, the pasta was in North American standard doneness : overcooked. I do have to state that I did take out so perhaps that 5 mins of pasta in the box could have effect the doneness of pasta. So I might try to dine in next time for fair review. Except the doneness of pasta, it was still a decent pasta dish. Gnocchi Lombardi : Gnocchi, chicken, sun dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, cream, arugula, Taleggio, was the favorite of the night. Gnocchi was chewy and bouncy, sauce felt bit Italian American but it didn't matter. It was creamy, tomatoy and full of flavour. It was definitely bit more on heavier side but you can really feel the fresh gnocchi so I highly recommend it. After trying all these, I got pretty curious about their desserts so I tried two flavour Cannolies. Flavour of the day were Amarena Cherry and Pistachio. Cannoli shell was perfectly crispy. Not as cinnamony as some of other places so it didn't distract the flavour of fillings. While I was pretty satisfied with shells, fillings were bit questionable. Both flavour fillings were more rustic side than smooth creamy side. In order for me to enjoy the flavour in these fillings, I would prefer it to be little more smooth than grainy texture. I personally enjoyed Pistachio more than Cherry Flavour. Lastly I tried Cocco Bello : Coconut panna cotta, pineapple and rum compote, mint. I'm not sure if it was because take out version issue (they had to get take out ver from basement) but it was dry and felt old. I'm not even sure if I got any rum compote as there were absolutely no compote or hint of rum in it. It was biggest let down of the night and I would say save your money and calories, and get other desserts. Service was pleasant. Server was very friendly and attentive during my take out interaction. Overall, I think their strength is still remain in pizzas. I will give their pastas another try to give more accurate and fair review though. But for now, get their pizza!

An actual good deal at a bar ! Interior is newish and clean. Customer base is rough and ready which is refreshing. Feels like an American bar. My server and bartender was Deja. She was great. I will return. One complaint would be the lighting. It's too damn bright.

This was Game 7! Do or die! We were all adorned in Jays' paraphernalia and arrived early to get seated before it got crowded. There were already many Jays fans sitting along the tables. We sat down at the bar and were greeted by a beautiful and friendly bartender, Deja. She asked us how we are. We told her we were from out of town. She knew our friends very well, and she raced around the bar to give them a huge hug. She hugged us, too! We ordered a couple of Blue Jay beer specials, and we got very comfortable. Deja was interested in where we were from and if we had family. We have two grown kids who are away at school. She showed us a picture of her adorable 3-year-old daughter. She loves her so much, and you could see she was a great mom! It started getting busier as it was closer to game time, and at this point, there was only standing room. She had two barbacks help her get the orders in. The game was on, and it was getting louder and louder as people were cheering for our JAYS! It was complete madness with so many people that you couldn't breathe. But the environment was so energetic and fun, we didn't care. We could see how busy Deja was, yet she attended to everyone's orders and never missed a beat in a professional and friendly manner. She was truly amazing! I could never handle so many people at once. The night went by, and we all know the undesirable result of the game. The entire room was in shock, and their faces were just drained in disappointment. I felt like the overwhelming sadness was shared in the room, and we all began to console each other. At that point, some discouraged people stayed and drank some more, but we needed to go. Deja thanked us, and she ran around the bar, and we all had a vigorous group hug, knowing it would be okay. We will heal. We gave her a great tip, and she thanked us and asked us to come back again. We definitely will. I highly recommend stopping by the Bull on Bloor! We made great memories and new friends.

I think I was intimidated because there's not much information about the joint online. I walked in and there were a few people having drinks, so I grabbed a seat at the end of the bar. After walking by for months and seeing the sign for their own Kanu Lager, I obviously had to order that. It's a very simple, very tasty lager that's super easy to drink. I'll definitely be drinking it again. I was feeling a little peckish, too, so I asked to see a menu. Everything sounded really tasty, so I asked for a recommendation and wound up with the Calamari Rings. They're surprisingly, shockingly good. They're perfectly fried and enhanced by a really tasty (and spicy) dipping sauce. I also want to single out the ambience and the service, both of which were tremendously appealing. It's a small, dark bar, which I love, and my server was helpful without being intrusive. I really don't know why it took me so long to check out Kanu. It's a really cool little place and I'm looking forward to stopping by on a regular basis in the future.

The seasoning was spot on, and the portion size was more than generous. The platter was paired with fresh garnishes, tangy ajvar, creamy garlic sauce, and diced onions for the perfect bite. We also had the Caesar salad, which was fresh and crisp with plenty of Parmesan and a creamy dressing that balanced well against the richness of the meats. The presentation was inviting, the flavors were authentic, and it's clear this place takes pride in quality Balkan-style comfort food. Definitely a great spot if you're craving hearty grilled dishes in Toronto's west end. Highly recommend for both sharing plates and casual family-style dining. Not to forget the excellent service. The Royal Cannon was flavourful, but I found it extremely cheesy and oily on the inside. While the taste was good, the amount of cheese was overwhelming for me. I also got to try the beef chevaps, which I found to be very yummy. The bread was toasted giving it a nice crisp, the ajvar and kaymak went really well with the bread and chevaps, and lastly the portion size was huge! Service was okay. Wait times were a bit on the slower end, and when one of the servers brought someone in our party tea, they carelessly spilled some on the table, and never even acknowledged or noticed the mess they made. If I visit again, I'd probably go for the chevaps myself.
