We attend their Burlingame location, because they have a heated indoor pool that can be used year round, as well as showers for right afterwards. Since starting here, my daughter went from not wanting to let go of the instructor or put her head underwater to swimming underwater and now doing freestyle! She loves her lessons and it's helped build so much confidence with water, which makes me feel great as a parent, as water safety is one of my biggest concerns. I recommend them to everyone!

My girls had wonderful times in the water but I would say 2/3 of their teachers weren't quite sure what to do with them. Many can't perform all 4 strokes well. The scheduling is also inconsistent, with students having different teachers weekly. Coach Stacy is very skilled but unfortunately it doesn't seem that the same skills were passed down to the underage staff. (Most are 15-18) I hope with time they are able to work with their employees regarding curriculum. My two have made immense progress at La Petite in RWC and at a slightly cheaper rate so if you are on the fence, I highly recommend them over Shipman. We loved teachers Sonja and Rose but both have left the school. We were informed by another parent that Zumer had yelled at Rose in front of them and their own two girls. The photos on this site are also incredibly outdated. Seeing all the old reviews from years ago, makes me wonder how things have fallen apart.

We left Crunch after 17 years (well, technically it was Gold's before but you get the point) because I had a female stalker and Crunch wouldn't help me (even with restraining orders). I was wildly unimpressed with their non-assistance. We went to Equinox bc it was supposed to be nicer and it was only a 1 mile walk from our house - fantastic. While it looked nicer, it was not nicer. It's old, outdated and limited. It's stupid expensive. And the hours really, really suck. So after a year, we left Equinox and we were wavering on going back to the Bay Club or joining the Y. Our kids really wanted to work out and the Y was a great option for a family plan. So we joined for them. While testing it out and thinking we might bounce out to the Bay Club, we ended up loving it. They recently upgraded all the equipment to smart equipment and I'm diggin it! I haven't seen these machines since I was at an upscale gym in Houston a couple years ago! I love the price ($185 for all 6 of us, plus it as daycare vs $230/mo at equinox per person and no kids are welcome) I love the normalness of the Y too. I may make great income, but I don't want to be with the stiffs. I want to be where my roots are.

Unfortunately, Peninsula YMCA would not allow me to use their towels because they said they don't have enough towels. I think that's a ridiculous reason, especially since towel service is one of the benefits that made me choose the YMCA. I hope Peninsula YMCA reconsiders this policy and treats Nationwide members equally.

It has always been my…read moregoal to learn how to swim as I never gotten the chance as a child and finally put it on my vision board for this year. I remember the first day of class, I was terrified of the water and the thought of floating seemed impossible let alone ever being comfortable being in the deep end. After 3.5 months, I can confidently say that I feel comfortable swimming in the deep end and now perfecting my freestyle all with the help of all the amazing instructors. My primary instructor has been Rowan who I can't speak more highly of as he is so passionate in teaching and does everything he can to make sure you have the proper form and technique. One of the things I appreciate most about Rowan is that he would often mimic what I was doing to understand the cause and effect of my mistakes, which helped guide me toward correcting them. Because of this, I was able to understand why I struggled with different strokes--it really is all about learning to relax your body and become one with the water. Today was my last class with Rowan, and honestly, it was one of the best. We focused on keeping my chin down, my head underneath my arms, turning my palm upward when taking a side breath, relaxing my head to the side, and fully extending both arms for an effective side breath and freestyle. I am going to really miss my classes but so happy that I am now able to float, tread water, jump into the water, do backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. I highly recommend the classes and so grateful for this experience. Thanks again Rowan for being such an amazing instructor and also to Eddie for teaching me the beginning stages of butterfly and for his passion to teach as well!

This one is out of 24 hour fitness in San Mateo. The facility is okay. The women's locker room is not the newest or the cleanest but the pool is long enough for laps. The British Swim School uses one lane and the other two are for gym members. It gets the job done. I didn't learn how to swim as a kid so it's something that I have on my bucket list for years. I finally decided to work on it. I picked a class and signed up on their app. It was very easy. If there are any questions, you can chat with a staff also on their app. They're usually pretty quick to reply. It's easy to manage absences and make up sessions. The ratio is up to 4:1 but I've only been in one class with 3 other students. They're usually very generous with supplying teachers when available. I've been in classes where there are 2 teachers when there are 3 students and they can easily send a teacher home to save money but they don't. The teachers are usually young adults. I've work with several different teachers in my few months with them and they're all very nice and knowledgeable.
