Stephen responded quickly and professionally to our inquiry, quoted a reasonable price - which fell in the middle of two other quotes. He and his crew went above and beyond expectations, including leveling off the sides with topsoil and patching up parts of another pathway. We were fully expecting to have to repair our electric dog fence upon completion, but they worked very carefully to preserve it - and took good care with our landscaping. He showed up when he said he would and finished when he said he would. We have gotten a lot of compliments from neighbors.

I know just enough about it to understand how it can all go wrong, and I've felt taken advantage of by contractors before, and so when I got to the point where I felt I could no longer tolerate the deterioration I was observing in my garage, I went to look for a mason. I asked around a lot. The boutique guys, preservationists, and artisans mostly didn't get back to me. One failed to inspire confidence. Another guy stood me up. Another wouldn't go into the city. One never got me a quote. Another guy was very nice and knowledgeable but quoted me a price so high that it had me looking at DIYing it. The search was not pleasant. Brick brothers was different. Stephen understood my concerns about the materials and the work that was needed, he showed an understanding of the principles of brick and mortar masonry on par with the fancier guys, and he quoted me a price I could actually afford. My only critique would be that the written quote lacked detail, but we adequately covered the scope of work verbally. It took two Saturdays, and I'd rough guess 48 man-hours. I'm so glad I didn't have to go the DIY route. Now the way brick goes it's probably at least 5 years before one can be certain that the work is right, but based on my conversations with Stephen and my own observations of his work, I'm confident that I'll see no spalling on the repaired areas. And having seen a few rains since the work was done, I can already report that I'm no longer seeing water infiltration in the repaired areas. So for brick repair needs, Stephen of Brick Brothers hits that rare intersection of competence and price which makes his work a great value. I would absolutely recommend him for any brick masonry needs.

Well, I am finally getting around to writing this long-overdue review for Byron and his Artistic…read moreMasonry Contractor business; I have been putting this task off for the past two months because I have been overly busy! I first encountered this company when they promptly provided an estimate for repair of my driveway stone wall back in late 2018, after an errant new UPS driver had come up the driveway and managed to bang up the stone wall. Then, two months ago, in September, a rogue Amazon Delivery Flex gig driver, driving a private car, chose to ignore all of the many professional highway-quality metal signs at the bottom of the driveway warning that no delivery vehicles are allowed up my driveway, and that instead, they should park down at the bottom of the driveway, near the road, and then walk up the stairwell and path to bring any packages to the front porch. Well, this rogue Amazon Flex driver did a lot of damage to the stone wall surrounding the driveway during her illegal foray up the driveway, and when Amazon passed the insurance claim over to their insurance claims handler, I once again asked Artistic Masonry for an estimate, which Byron provided in PDF file format. The claims adjuster approved the claim immediately, and within two weeks, Byron came by in his truck and did a very good job in repairing the damaged stone wall; I was very impressed with his work. Well, a few days ago, yet another rogue Amazon Delivery driver, this time one driving one of those large dark grey Amazon Prime vans, chose to ignore the numerous warning signs in place at the bottom of the driveway, and, totally illegally, drove up the driveway. In very short order, he managed to hit and badly damage not one, but two different spots on my driveway wall, with the spots about 10 feet apart from each other. The rogue Amazon Delivery driver then fled the scene of the accident (just as the last driver of two months ago had done) without reporting the accident and damage to me (I was home, and watching the entire scene unfold from an upstairs window), nor to the police. So, in short order, Amazon again approved the new damage claim, and passed it off to their insuance claims adjuster a few days ago. So, at about 3 AM this morning (I get up very early to start my day...!) I sent Byron at Artistic Masonry an email, describing the accident and the damage sites, and attaching to the email four photos of the damaged areas. Byron responded to me promptly, within an hour, and he reports that he will be coming to visit my driveway later today, after which he will send me an estimate in PDF file format via email. I am looking forward to seeing Byron do this new repair job over the next few weeks, because he does very good work! I am now working on even newer and more sophisticated methods -- using video cameras plus outdoor LED signs, and perhaps armed snipers as well as land mines -- to keep errant criminal Amazon Delivery drivers from driving up my driveway and causing damage!

Firmstone stood out immediately. They offered an extremely competitive quote, took the time to understand our site constraints, and proposed the most realistic solution out of everyone we consulted. We've been working with Ronald and Maritza, who have been nothing short of exceptional. They are professional, thorough in explaining both the problem and the options, and consistently prompt in their communication and on-site visits. Despite having to trench through our backyard, their work was neat, and they left the area impressively clean. Angela was also great--helpful with contracts and special project requirements, especially since part of the work involved coordination with our neighbors. If you're looking for a team that's reliable, knowledgeable, and respectful of your property, I wholeheartedly recommend Firmstone!

They use great triple shredded mulch and left everything spotless. They are friendly, respectful, and reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Thank you Roland and Maritza and team.

Of the four contractors contacted, Wesly responded quickly and was at our house the next day asking all the right questions. we also discussed two other projects, more in just passing, but interested in what she would come back with. Within a day, she came back with a series of quotes, one for the stair job we needed, which was very reasonable and for a design that worked very well. Her team showed up the next day and were efficient and very detailed. Our three step project was done in a day and looked great! Although we told Wesly the price on the other patio resurface project was a bit more than we were ready to take on, didn't stop her from finding another option that cut the cost using a ceramic tile that offered better wear, more color options and a design that better matched our house. We could afford that! We were also able to redo a ghastly concrete step from our den that a prior owner bought at Home Depot and dumped in place. Wasn't to code either. The Team was back out and did a marvelous job! They were there three days, morning to late evening getting the job done. The result updated the back of our house, the slate and brick step off the den was to code and the patio was comfortable to walk on and made my wife's patio set look really good. Short story: J & J Quality was a real find and we are already talking about another project! if you need a job done right and for a good price, give Wesly and Team a call.
