We had already received multiple quotes prior to George visiting us for our quote. He came out around 6PM on a Wednesday and called me while onsite. We discussed everything and he gave me a great price. He said he was giving me a great price due to a job that had rescheduled for the next day (Thursday) and he needed some filler work to take of his guys and keep them busy. This at first raised red flags for me and I was hesitant. I told him to let me discuss with my wife and we would let him know in a hour or so. He said no problem and he suggested I check his BBB and other reviews. He even told me he had a bad review because he dropped the ball getting a gentlemans estimate scheduled. I appreciated his honesty and told him I would call in a bit. We decided to move forward with George and his crew after checking his reviews and reaching out to a mutual friend that knew of George's family and company. George said I will be there by 7:30 Thursday morning and was genuinely appreciative of us choosing his company. He arrived at out house at 7:20 and we confirmed everything was as we discussed. His normal practice is to take half at signing and the remainder at the end of the job but he said he appreciated me accepting and he would take complete payment at the end to be sure I was happy with everything. His crew arrived within 10-15 minutes and they immediately started to work. I have cameras so I peeped in during the day at work and everything he said he would do he was doing. They completed around 4 that day and he asked me to call him when I got home. I got home at around 5 and texted George and he was back at my house in 15 minutes. I had a few questions and he patiently answered them even after working all day in the heat at my house. We said shaked hands and he left and his Mom called me within minutes to receive payment. Long review I know but I felt that a family owned business that has been around roughly 50 years needed to be recognized for the old school work ethic and the fact that George cared enough for his crew to keep them busy in these tough times. As a business owner I can guarantee you George did not bank a large profit on this project and it was strictly to keep his folks busy and earning pay. Even with my limited knowledge of asphalt I know enough to see he did not take short cuts either. Thank you George, Virginia and Thurmont Paving crew!! I already referred a friend on Thursday evening and George called him today (Friday)to get his estimate on the books. read more

I called earlier this week and scheduled to have somebody come out to give me an estimate for my driveway. I was told they could come out Saturday. I was also told I would get a call Friday and advise when they were coming. This morning, which is Saturday, I got a phone call saying that George would be at my house in about 20 minutes. Needless to say I called about 35 minutes or so after, no answer. Did not know anybody had come by my house. I called again an hour and a half later. Spoke to Margaret. She said they had already been out to my house. I told her nobody rang the doorbell or told us that they were here. She said they typically don't call or come to the door. I told her it would've been nice if she had told me how they operate. Maybe I had questions. Poor customer service. They do not educate you on what you're paying for or asking for. Maybe they do a good job with paving, but unfortunately, their office is disorganized. Don't tell me you're gonna call me if you're not. Also, don't offer to call somebody and tell them when the appointment will be, or when someone's coming if nobody's going to come to the door. It makes no sense. Highly not recommended. Would give no stars if it was an option. read more

I did not use Thurmont Paving nor did I receive an estimate. I have reached out several times - no word. If they ever get more professional, I'll update my review! I have seen them in my neighborhood for 6 years...so I figured they might be ok. It has been over a month and no one has come to do an estimate. Their super slow response in communicating does not make me feel like they are a good fit for hiring them. It took over 2 weeks to hear back from my first email to them. Then I gave them my address when they said they'd be happy to swing by to do an estimate. That was 4 weeks ago...I've followed up - still no word. At this point, I'll give someone else a try. I'm not cheap and don't normally get multiple bids. read more

Great Company. We used them for a fairly large paving project at our business. The work turned out great and it was done quickly and professionally. They worked with us to enable us to run our business while they paved with very little interruption. This is a local family owned business and they are wonderful to work with. Our Car Wash needed all new asphalt installed and without disrupting customers. Thurmont Paving did a professional job and in a timely manner. We hired them back again a few years later to apply sealer, they were in and out, no issues. read more

They are awful. The overpriced tar-and-chip driveway they built for me was supposed to last at least 20 years. They skimped on materials and they used unskilled workers. Guess what? It all washed away the first time it rained. I told them to redo it and they told me to pay them to start all over. Beware. read more

The secretary/receptionist is very unprofessional, never returned calls or emails and faulsified information. The one and only time a gentlemen came to give me an estimate was very professional and curtious. Since then I have been unable to schedule an appointment to get my drive way repaired, because Victoria, the secretary, never returns calls. My job was quoted as being approximately four grand, but due to the dollar amount it was not worth traveling twelve miles to do. This company came highly recommended to me, but I would never recommend them. read more

We are very pleased with the blacktop Thurmont Paving put down on our shared driveway. The blacktop is pretty substantial and the finish is very smooth. We have four (4) families who share the common drive and it's not always easy for everybody to agree on what we need; "how long, how wide, how much to spend". We changed our mind a couple of times which made George (who owns the business) come out a couple times to change his estimate. He could not have been nicer. Virginia at the office responded promptly to our phone calls and emails and sent a couple different estimates as the work estimate changed, she was very polite and accommodating. It's been about 3 months since the job was completed. The driveway has been rained on, snowed on and recently had two (2) dump trucks with over 20 tons of stone each drive on the blacktop to put stone on other parts of our shared driveway and not a tire mark or ding was put on the black top. I want to mention the black top they put down is on a pretty steep hill and the drainage and slope were also well done. I have used Thurmont Paving on my own driveway about 10 years ago and it is still in very good shape. I will certainly use this company again as my neighbors will as well. read more
