I mean really really really cheap? Then look no further then the Cafeteria set up inside of PL International Market! Mind you the atmosphere is a bit lackluster and they don't have a vegan option outside of rice and beans, but damn tasty meats. I tried the Asada and Carnitas and Pastor taco Orion's and was delighted. I only had three, but could have kept going. The Salsa bar has great choices. Finally found the right salsa bar. I been looking for Tacos, tortas etc and although tacovore is good- it ain't street food and the salsa bar is megre. This place fixes a small part of my heart that misses SoCal Mexican food. It isn't the tamale lady on my old street, or the world's best $2 taco Tuesday around the corner in LBC, but it goes a lonnnng way to meeting my needs. If the tortillas had been warm, I woulda fine 5 stars for those totally legit $5 huevos rancheros, but it was still real good. First time stopping in here- they had a nice selection of items, I was looking for some specific things so didn't wander too much, but found what I needed. I'll be back to check out their full selection though! I also grabbed two tacos- one asada, one pollo. They were delicious! For .99 cents each, I can't complain! Good amount of meat, soft tortillas- and you too it yourself which I like. I preferred the pollo, but the asada wasn't bad. Also, the salsa bar is awesome. I put three salsas on them- habanero, a creamy looking red salsa and something that looked made with fire roasted veggies (if they set it up the same way each time- they were the top and bottom salsa closest to the ordering counter). Plaza Latina was on our destination stop list when we visited Eugene last week. Seriously. We love ethnic markets. Also, we were in need of fresh white corn tortillas to bring home to make a pastel Azteca (using Bend local company Barcelona's great almond sauce) for Superbowl day. (Don't watch the game...but need to feed guests who do. ;-) ) And we also needed some fresh and dried peppers for other recipes. We found all that and then some at Plaza Latina. Seems like we tend to start in the produce section of any market and so it was here. It puts our local grocery stores to shame to be offering jalapeno peppers at prices of between $5 and $6 per pound when these lovely gems are sold for 99 cents per pound at Plaza Latina. Not to mention the mound of marvelous tomatillos that were only 89 cents per pound here. And we're pretty sure if they don't have the dried peppers you're looking for at Plaza Latina, Nature doesn't grow 'em. I wish I had a photo of the seafood case to show the bright eyed, whole fresh fish snuggled into their beds of ice. The panderia in the back of the store had some beautiful breads and bakery items. If you're making a Mexican torte, this would be the place to come for the rolls. Our stop at Plaza Latina was early one morning, but Julie H's photo of the mole plate makes me realize we need to have this timed for lunch on our next time. There will be a next time because they also offer specialty items from South and Central America that we need to look at some more. Great place! read more

They are back on it! Sometime between when I had downgraded my original review and now, things have turned around. I recently stopped in and picked up a Carne Asada burrito and it was excellent! The red sauce was back to as I first remembered it as welI. I noticed the breakfast burritos were now less expensive once again (though not as ridiculous as the previous 99 cents, which is totally understandable) and inquired if they were the "small ones"; they said yes. Excited by this I decided to try them again the next morning. I was delighted. The breakfast burritos were as good if not even better than they originally were! Miss the good old days when they had Mediterranean food and cheap tacos. The owners are no longer Latin. The store is dirty. The frozen section is confused. Cheap delicious food. I eaten here a few times in the past and this most recent visit. I got two regular al pastor tacos $1.70 each. Excellent value. I would rate higher but the parking lot always has too many cars for how many people are actually in the store. Several usually have some questionable people hanging out. I always have to worry about a break in so I try to mitigate by parking close to 7th street. read more

This is by far one of the worst place I do my grocery at. I have been fooled by the owner many times, it was fine with me that the bread I bought was expired because I didn't checked the date its my fault even though that I don't expect to find an year or month expired products in the store! But afterwards, I decided to check the dates before buying it and I did. But I found out that the owner not only leave the old products there buy she also manipulates with the dates stickers, I bought a cheese where the date show it expired next month and when I bought it and opened it its smelled really bad! I was surprised because the expiration date was ok I'm safe, but still it smells really really bad, I took a close look to the sticker and there where it hit me, she posted a new sticker in top of the old on, the old sticker showed that it actually expired last year!!! This market is awesome! I seriously felt like I was back on the Yucatan when I went in. I was hungry passing by this place and thought, HELL yeah...breakfast burrito it is. I lucked out with no wait and ordered a huevos y jamon burrito. The burrito started out large on the grill, but after it was stuffed and rolleld up, it kinda shrunk a bit....ok a lot. But seriously, who's complaining? NOT ME!! For .99 these are a steal! It was a VERY authentic tasting treat with salsa, beans, ham and eggs. I noticed the panaderia on the way out the door, I didn't go back and check it out...but I will next time. I love Pan Dulce (sweet bread) and I'm pretty sure I seen some on my way out that caught my eye. Next night I make Mexican i'm stopping here for the goods! read more

The PL is a slice of heaven, for 2 reasons: the groceria itself and the restaurant. The groceria: Ok, so I love to cook Mexican food, and I take it pretty seriously. Like, when I am going to get down with some Tortilla Soup, I am going to do it right... I am going to use only the traditional and fresh ingredients, and I am going to use the time consuming, age old method of preparing the soup... The problem with this is that it can be very difficult to find a lot of the ingredients that you need for many Mexican recipes, even at so called hispanic markets... PL is an exception to this! They have everything you could ever want and more as far as Mexican cooking goes! (also- if you are throwing a Mexican theme party/ Cinco de Mayo party, this is the place to be!) the restaurant: effing fantastic mexican grub. it is fast, delicious, and almost offensively inexpensive. While in the area and not ever going to PL International Market, I finally decided to stop by. My wife looked around to look at the grocery section of the place and I examined the menu. After looking thoroughly I decided on a al pastor taco and a chicken sopes. One thing that was a bit misleading was that they have a check in offer for a free drink with purchase. They did not honor it and told me that offer is no longer available for the last few years. They should remove it cause I felt deceived by this. The taco was good. Meat was well seasoned and portion of meat was quite plentiful. The sopes was another story. It was difficult to eat and the bread was hard to cut and eat. The experience here was meh... and disappointing that they don't honor their check in offers. Their are better alternatives for tacos and Mexican food elsewhere. read more

I've even here multiple times over the last few years, and food is generally very good. Currently there are no prices listed? Weird. There are Velcro tags so obviously just taken down. They only have carnitas on the weekend. I love horchata and they sometimes have a strawberry/mango version. Today my drink wasn't full because they were out up front. She did offer to go to back for more, but I just added some ice. My carnitas platter was very good: pork has a good flavor albeit a tad fatty, tasty whole beans, rice and something green and spicy. My husband got the torta which he loved, and a chicken taco. Get the green salsa on the side! read more

Not really an international market anymore, it seems like it is transitioning to an full Mexican grocery, which isn't a bad thing. They have a fresh meat counter, but the best thing is the in-store restaurant! Fantastic, fresh and delicious Mexican food. Their $1.35 tacos are the best tasting and best price in town. Their Caldo de Res (beef soup) has homemade beef broth and big chunks of meat and veges. Yum! Tables and chairs are set up by the open kitchen and taco condiment bar. Very casual here and the kitchen/counter staff are nice, and patient. Generous portions (their burritos are big enough for two adults). read more

This review is only for their tacos. I've been here in the past and remember the tacos to be flavorful and of great value. Prices are now $2.50 per taco for what is a smaller product with less filling (even skimping on the onions and cilantro). Meat inside was tough and did not taste fresh. A normal person would likely need 3-4 tacos to feel satisfied. Product quantity and quality have both declined; likely won't be back. read more

Ok so just to clarify, 99c tacos no longer exist, but they're like $1.50 and well worth it. The spicy pork ones are excellent and not as spicy as you might expect, my spice-intolerant friend even liked them. These are street-style tacos with the two tortillas. They also have an awesome salsa bar and if you particularly like any of the salsas, they sell them there as well. The market itself has a dizzying array of foreign food products, mostly of the Mexican and Asian variety (mostly Korean). They also make their own crema in house, have a butcher, and have a produce section with everything from onions to agave. Their produce isn't anything to write home about, and you'll likely need to do some sifting to find a good specimen. read more

It's all relative - if you're comparing this with something in Mexico, it comes up lame - but if you're comparing it with something in the US (outside of any Hispanic urban area!), it's not bad. The taqueria gets low marks for charging extra for condiments and for creating some of the most tasteless Mexican foods ever - how? (let's start with a lack of salt and spices in everything, and go from there.) But generally, their ingredients are fresh and staff friendly - and prices are reasonable. The grocery section is divided into very evident parts - the produce section contains a good representation of needed and unusual Hispanic kitchen ingredients, some of which are priced lower than anywhere else in town - others just the opposite - it helps to know relative prices before shopping here. Watch out for produce from China (like garlic) something which is unforgivable and unacceptable too - Mexico grows wonderful winter garlic, and it should be available here. Still, it is the second best part of the market, only surpassed by the meat/fish section. where many kinds of difficult to find items are available at mostly good prices - I suspect this is the busiest part of the market. The bakery deserves only a fair rating - not only could it be much better (at which point, its prices would be justified) but it is over-priced. Yes, I've had much worse baked goods from a Mex bakery, but in every case, those prices were so low that price/quality were equal. In this case, they are not! Generally, the canned goods and packaged items are the highest priced items in the store - this is even true for those items which are also available in other neighborhood groceries around town - however, for the more unique items which may only be found on these shelves, the buyer will take a real bath! And for those unique Middle Eastern items which the store stocks, pricing can reach absurd levels. This fact creates the unusual opportunity to experience new Middle Eastern dishes in a local restaurant much cheaper than one can try creating it in their own home after buying the needed ingredients here. this combination mercado/taqueria is excellent. as far as mexican grocery items, there is no better place in eugene that i know of. they have an impressive selection of beans, salsas, hot sauce, etc. they also carry middle eastern products. BEST OF ALL is that fact that you can buy homemade tortillas here. until now, i was finding it impossible to buy good (i.e. not heavily preserved) corn tortillas in this city and i'm really glad that i now know where to go. the taqueria is great too! the mole (see photo) was tasty and included a real piece of chicken on the bone (as opposed to the diced chicken that they try to pass off as pollo en mole at el jarro azul... so i hear). unfortunately, the pastor was a little disappointing; it was lacking flavor. but the rice and beans were the best i've had in eugene so far! they also have aguas frescas; i had the melon and it was great. i am looking forward to coming back for breakfast, as they have the full range: chilaquiles, huevos a la mexicana, huevos rancheros, and quite a few breakfast burritos. it's definitely worth it to plan on eating something here either before or after shopping. i'd just recommend trying something other than the pastor as far as your choice of meat. whatever you order, be sure to try the (complimentary) salsa verde with your food. it is really hot but the avocado in it smoothes it out a little. read more

This marketplace/restaraunt is fantastic! Not only can you get every item for your traditional cooking at home, but you can skip all of that as well as clean up and eat there! Third, this market attempts to fill a need by having a fair selection of Middle Eastern products. While the attempt is appreciated, it just doesn't do it very well. Friendly staff in restaurant, looks like hard working ladies in the back. Ordered myself an asada burrito and got myself a free drink for checking in. Thumbs up! I love good authentic Mexican food so I was excited to try this place out. But the burrito was only okay. =\ When the lady called my number, all I got was the burrito. No salsa, no lime, nada. So I politely asked for lime, thinking there has to be salsa somewhere. As I sat down and realized nope, no salsa I went back up to the counter and asked for red sauce this time... She gave me a really small cup of sauce. It was so sad looking but I couldn't get myself to ask her again cos I didn't wanna sound so needy so I sat down with my one sauce and two small lime wedges and ate my burrito. It was okay. Though I have never eaten from the food stand inside, I can say that I always come here to feel nostalgic about home (growing up near the border in California). Their bakery is primo, you can get a million different sweet breads, also, just a bunch of brands I grew up with but have failed to find else where. The prices are very reasonable and they have a decent produce selection as well as a meat market. Awesome prices for good quality food. Currently 99 cents for a standard taco that includes two tortillas with choice of carne asada, chicken, lengua, al pastor, carnitas, veggies... you get the idea... lots of options. But that's just the beginning. The complimentary salsa bar is rad compared to almost every other place in Eugene/Springfield. At least 8 unique housemade sauces and limes, pickled veggies, fresh onions, cilantro etc. Fancy pants food this is not. Delicious, incredible value, friendly quick service it is 100%. Plaza Latina has been a solid place for a long time but it really seems like they are stepping up their game. Also - this is a really decent grocery store, bakery and butcher shop.
